  • So trainer takes 10% of the prizemoney. And recently it was articulated that they barely cover costs with training fees (see recent study). Tell ya what, i wouldn't be a trainer. Earn more working at Kmart on an hr to hr basis Barely cover cos…
  • Will there be Saturday racing at Belmont rain is coming in on Friday night. Track will be wet. Will the "trench" hold up.? So many questions need answering. For the sake of racing I hope the trench holds up. Your weather prediction looks right mat…

  • This thread is now historical as all of these horses are retired, like me.  For mine, one was a real dud but Carocapo purchased for $90,000 went on to win $638,000 in 10 wins and 11 placings. Lorentinio had a chequered ownership but he finished purc…
  • Does that include Westspeed Arapaho?
  • It would appear that many WA Trainers face a financial crisis in coming months. WA Trainers Economic Viability and Sustainability Report. A recent independent study into the economic future of WA’s racehorse trainers has detailed the significant v…
  • The communication was they moved yesterday’s meeting to protect the newly laid “trench” section which is understandable considering the weather. But are we saying the rest of the track is no good as well after 2 meetings ? No mate.. The trench is …
  • Going forward, what are the options to improve the situation that is Belmont. Obviously we need a plan so in future years we don’t lose so many meetings there each winter. The grass is fooked, it can’t handle the rain like it use too. How successful…
  • What happens next week with the weather not looking good for end of week, they can't keep on hammering these country tracks, fingers crossed this wet weather doesn't eventuate. possibly Bunbury grass?? Or is that fooked too?
  • Going out to Sept /Oct puts them smack in the middle of breeding season and foaling , no time your already working 24/7. That is a very good point. So how do they manage over east? It might open up a new market to battling trainers to prepare these…
  • The winter Magic Millions sale looked very weak to my eye and has been that way for as long as I can remember. Mainly due to the emergence of Inglis digital. MM should look at pushing the sale back a few months to late Sept/Oct when it’s a bit warme…
  • A lot of stallion prospects would stay in racing for longer and many of those stallions that can’t produce a pre Christmas 2yo would be saved from the glue factory as well
  • Have always thought they have the bonus system the wrong way around. Would be better off providing bonuses to 5, 6 and 7yos to promote longevity rather than offering a bonus to blow your horse up before it’s matured
  • With the decreasing foal numbers would it not be a good time for world racing jurisdictions to band together and discuss the idea of ceasing 2yo racing for the betterment of the sport? I realise it’s not going to happen as the big breeders have too…
  • And there is the disconnect. I believe breeders have it wrong, failed to change to the market demands.   If everybody wanted quick ROI on bloodstock, what is playing god our most expensive sire at 50k?   I don’t think breeders have got it wrong, P…
  • Unfortunately silky the powers to be who are in charge of licensing don't go out of the office and observe the applicants credentials. Maybe that's due to not actually knowing themselves what skills are needed or required, but most competencies thes…
  • Stewards were worried about the lack of Raceday experience which was a fair concern My solution for that was a person could easily be accompanied by an open class trainer for the first 10/20 trials and the same for race days There wouldn’t be that m…
  • What can I say, a Jockey would have been offered a licence having already been a licenced person. It sounds like you feel hard done by, but the WA Industry has been a long way behind for decades and it sounds like they have tightened up requirements…
  • Would be nice to be able to train your own horse. Tried to get an owner/trainer licence this season but was told I would need to hold a stable hand licence for at least 12 months before they’d even look even looked at me. They said my 20 plus years …

  • The trainer and jock also get a % of the westspeed bonus, which is paid for entirely by the owner. Another nice little earn
  • After having 80 odd mls of rain in Bunbury, being able to race on it the following day makes it a great option going forward as a winter track
  • What did people think? I thought it played quite fair. Obviously the kick back didn’t suit some horses and it seems some horses will like the surface and others won’t
  • Gave it a pretty good steer imo. Pace slowed mid race so made the decision to make a move. Horse was gone on straightening. Not the jockeys fault. What did you see AA?
  • Is the clerk of scales liable for loss of prize money? Id be filthy

  • Like I said, I wouldn’t mind paying an extra 500p/m if they didn’t get the 10% and it went in my pocket For example a trainer gets an extra 500p/m per horse in a stable of 10 is $5000 per month. Not a bad earn But if my horse wins a race or 2 then I…
  • Most bills are 4000 plus per month already Maybe I’ll start billing the trainer 10% for spelling and transport The 10% to the trainer made sense in days gone by cos they bore the cost of a lot of consumables but those days are over Like above posts,…
  • I wouldn’t feel as if I was getting ripped off paying 4000 plus per month to the trainer if I was getting 95% of the winnings instead of 85%
  • I think the trainers can adjust their training fees according to their business model and don’t need a percentage of the winnings. All winnings should go to the owner minus the jockey percentage imo
