Yes it is that time of the year again when I get an extra spring in my step. Four weeks tomorrow and the real racing starts, yes thats right, the Broome Season.
There are a few whispers around, of course they still need to be confirmed.
Jim Enright has a good team, with a previous ES Blackbooker in Unbendable leading the charge.
Is Frank Maynard coming to Broome? That was the early whisper.
Kat Richter is bringing a team up from the Crayfish Coast to the Pearl Coast.
The weather is outstanding, and people are starting to filter into town, with bikinis being spotted at shopping centres.
I Can't wait.

Are these all first timers to broome?? What about the stabling as i do understand first in first served dosent go up there. the old timers have the same stables year in year out and i do also believe its hard to get stables on a full season basis alright if your travelling just for that meet but the full season is hard. :?

You must be piston broke if u think reckon snowy's making a comeback. I'd like to have a little wager u won't even see him at the track on raceday.

its not impossible Silks. John Gangemi got some stables for the season this year. he hasnt been up before. Shaun miller had some the year before that, then you have the regulars each year.
I know you do have to organise in advance though.

Diva, what can you tell me about your team's stable jockey, Michelle Hagley??

Would she get a run in the calender, and if so which month?

Ive just watched a few of her replays.
sorry, cant comment on the asthetics, but she sits on well by the look of her, has some good vigour in a finish and must be a gutsy lady as she rides the jumps.
Has ridden 27 winners this season from 189 odd rides for a winning strike rate of 14%.
She has also flown over specifically to help out Angela who was badly let down with 13 horses to be worked.
I hope she rides a few winners as she must be a good sort to have dropped everything in VIC to help a soul in need!

I've never heard of the girl...nor seen her name as a rider.
I wish her well in Broome....

Iam off to Broome for a holiday next month (first time) and rather excited to catch a race meeting up there. Any advice?
  • thefalconthefalcon    20,483 posts
Yes, lay off the grog, keep away from one mile, bet with Mike Swindle, keep out of a blue at the divers tavern & the roey. keep away from The Bungalow niteclub.
    Take plenty of dosh.......
