Belmont Preview for 31/8/19 by TMP (still)

West Australian Racing
I am still recovering from Wanna Be Good running 2nd last week; seemed to have the race won in the straight until..........
No go this week for WBG with poor draw and no WP!

R/1 The unusally spelled Indisisive reminds of that story of the 2 old boys talking; one of them was saying 'I was indecisive last year but thisyear I think I've improved; but I'm not really sure'. Any way we have such a greatly advanced trainer here. Also there is Jovella who may well be v improved after missing the start last time.

R/2 Here is where I have become serious. The barrier trial was v v impressive with Superstorm. I have taken 2.2 going with a double after WP saluted on the shortener fave of D Morton in the maiden today. I just do not think it is a great field and maybe that acceleration may have over the line first.

R/3 The toppie had lots of luck last time. Bel my Pago would need luck too on Sat. Excise Free has been painful for me previously.
So I will go for Citichant as the trainer can keep his horses racing consistantly and he does have the speed to suit the 1000m ; interesting jockey change too.

R/4 Maybe the change of jockey will suit Saracino; would like to see him bowling along in front from that draw. The fave seems a risk at this distance.
Dont Fuss seems a v good price.

R/5 Gatting is the class act here and the trial was v impressive. The right gear is back on.

R/6 I backed Why Choose Her when she failed 2 starts ago; then missed out when she won (a true mug punter). I am hoping she will not have wet track or the easy easy run she had last time. So I am on to Final Hearing; hoping he has improved alot after showing improvement from his promising early days.

R/7 Here is our raffle distance race; throw in the usual suspects and mix that with apprentices and I am pretty stumped.

R8/I backed Truly Gold last time as an outsider when Purist lobbed. Truly Gold has no wet track form; so on top of the ground I had better stick.
I looked at Marabel too pous Blue Horse ; then Sonnen is not hopeless. Also who can ignore Foc's opinion with Vermont Lady?

R/9 This is a good race with progressive types. I cannot understand the long price on Neurological; maybe he just runs well for WP.
Tamasa has a shocker of a draw. Chix Pick must go in on the better track.
In Love with Paris is a heartbreaker but will be in (again). Spillinova never seems to run great tines but does the job; should be ready for this one.

Good luck to all and hopefully Scales of Justice might put his best foot forward running on pace at Caulfield on Sat; I think he is one of those that needs an uninterrupted run (like me).
+1 -1

In the Idyllic Prince race just the six to run, there's the three clear cut fave's - Great Again, Gatting and Rebel King - but it's the next two in the betting am backing for the place - both better than $4 a drum - Variation first up and Multiverse.

The three fave's might go for it a little way out, and either Variation or Multiverse smothered away in the small field might run on into 1st or 2nd.

Very good was Idyllic Prince for Jim Taylor, strong fellow could come with a withering burst. Must have been around about 2005, 2006 was at his peak.

Now talking of oldies - Race 1 - Indian Chant ( by War Chant same as Variation )...outstanding pacer for trainer/driver Fred Kersley was Indian Chant, through 70's and 80's and still winning good races at the ripe old age of 13yrs.

Will have something each way, mostly place on that one for nostalgia.

there should be a few winners in there, piker.
glad you were smart enough to steer clear of the youngsters distance race...

Arrgh, it's a wet track tomorrow!
That rules out Truly Gold in the 8th.
I won't put in ChixPic or ILWP in the last (nor The Fugazi).
So I have to lean more to Spillinova.
Final Hearing does not exactly have wet form but I'll stick (but Why Choose Her seems a swimmer).
Superstorm has the right name and sire for a wet track. Did Mikimoto handle it? This fellow looks stronger than Miki, so we will know soon!
Classic Chant was I thought better off on a good track? I guess Bel my Pago comes in a bit now.
So please help with any suggestions; I need them!

Race 3: # 2. Kennedy - not so much to bet on but keen as mustard to watch this guy go around again - just noticed him in this morning - only had the one WA run back at Ascot in March - although never likely was not too bad late in the race finishing off ok, he's competed on Metropolitan tracks in Sydney and Melbourne, with one of his best efforts being a close up second to Group One horse Siege Of Quebec.

He's raced in NSW and Victoria, interesting form line along the way - just the two starts in the wet and in the money in both - by Exceed And Excel - perhaps named after somebody who did exceed and excel, President John F Kennedy.

Didn't realise race 7 is the Apprentices Cup - traditional race and good to see over the 2200, noticed Chris Graham has a ride - if that's the hoop think it is, he's an Irish lad, and in his mid 20's - claiming 3 kilos - an Irishman and a Russian - around 10/1 will have to have something each way Black Russian.

righti o....I like Floyd in race 4.
    Vermont lady in race 8.
I was most impressed with Go Cryings last win and can see no reason why it will not run well again...at a very good price in the last race.

Had me thinking exactly the same thing - KC & The Sunshine Band for @Rodent.
The amount of roughies Steve Parnham lobs first four seems to be a good number too.

Indian Chant in the first got back ran on OK but never likely, and the big drifter Kennedy in the third, gave up pretty meekly. Back to the drawing board would say for him.

What a long way Great Again has come, another masterly ride in front W Pike, but the disappointment was Gatting, but definately not helped by a very very average ride, how can you get stuck 3 wide in a 5 horse feild,so I guess that has thrown there plans into dissaeay,so I guess they will be saying do we go or stay, then if they stay, there is nothing for them here.
  • RodentRodent    7,445 posts
I have sympathy for the ride on Gatting. If he goes back to slot in, he is handing the race to W.Pike on a platter as there was no speed and Gatting was not going to be able to sprint quick enough coming back in distance.
So he decides to roll forward hoping to make the others do a bit of work. The problem was that Gatting just didn't travel or perform anywhere near its best. Imho it wouldn't have mattered how he was ridden.

^^ agree, I've watched the replay a few times and arrived at the same conclusion as rodent.
