Looking through the nominations for Saturday, and there certainly looks to be some good racing on offer at this stage.

Question for those on the handicapping train (ie Carey).

Will Hibernian be allotted more weight if Big Ted doesn't accept in the 80+ 2000m race? Read the handicapping notes from RWWA and this is what is said

    MINIMUM TOP-WeIGhT AT ACCePTANCeS
A minimum top weight at acceptances of 58kg is applicable to all handicap races. Where a horse is weighted on the declared
minimum weight but would otherwise be allotted a lesser weight in the absence of a required minimum weight, the increase in
weight shall be applied to the lesser weight.

so....... does this mean the minimum is raised to 56kg......and we go to 58kg? or have i missed it completely....

Am so far removed from knowing how to read the jargon on weights but seeing as it is a minimum of a rating 80 race, that all the ones on 80 or less would be 54 and then the weights would go up from there..So I'd say your weight would be unaltered as the race is based on a minimum at 80..

have only replied so i can test my own understanding...will be good to get someone who actually knows the answer..Carey may be the man..he knows a lot...I'm in awe of his knowledge...

So if a race is 80+ and if the top weight happened to be an 80 rater, that means the whole field Is on minimum of 54kg

if big ted does not accept hibernian gets 58.
the minimum will stay at 54 more than likely.

if big ted was the only scratching the weights should be as the last column below.....

    HIBERNIAN B 8 56 m84 58
    BOMBARD 11 54 m55 54
    CHESTER ROAD 10 54 m80 56
    ELECTIONEER 6 54 m59 54
    FINDING WATER 5 54 m57 54
    PIANITO 9 54 m49 54
    PINTADA PRINCE B 7 54 m77 54.5
    SUPER HAWK B 1 54 m80 56
    TIGERS INTHE WOODS 4 54 m61 54

....unless the handicapper reads this and wants to make carey look like an idiot!, but then he would be breaking their own rules.

No matter whether it's 56 or 58 kilos he's allocated with HB I can't see any reason why Hibernian wont be in the finish once again. Back Markers seem to go especially well at Belmont too with the longer straight to wind up in.

Yes a lot of love in the thread Slip..I would be a lot wealthier if that is where it had always been!!!!

Chester Road may get my money in that one after his last run..Super Hawk cant possible keep on going, Hibernian is about 2 runs past having a break - just ask falcon.. No -one will have a clue how big Ted is going to run unless your on course 20 minutes before the race starts...so process of elimination leaves Chester Road...

Purely out of curiousity Rio what makes you think Hibernian is due for a spell at this stage of his preperation? Last time in he had 12 starts and this time in he's had 8.

I think what your getting at (and I understand where your coming from too) is that because he backed up 3 weeks in a row at Mt Barker, Geraldton and Pinjarra he'd be due for a break?

I think you could have made a very fair case in thinking that way but after having a nice 3 week break between runs he seemed to be back to his near best at Narrogin last start so maybe he isn't ready for a spell just yet. We'll probably know a lot more after Saturday though.

I was having a dig at Falcon, cos he reckoned he was up for a spell before Pinjarra i think it was. After the mini break he was so close (again) in Narrogin.

I actually reckon he will get a good run on Saturday and will be coming home well..Belmont has to be a better track for him..IMO.

But after seeing Chester Roads run last week, i'm going to stick with him to hold them off...And the way i have been punting it may just be the bit of luck H-Bomber needs..me not betting on Hibernian as i have the last few starts!!

Would never be brave enough to go against a leading trainer..if Adam reckons he's up for it...then that should be good enough..they don't get any bonuses for running horses into the ground!!

I suspected it was to do with that Rio but it's all just a bit of friendly harmless banter as far as I am concerned

Like many back markers Hibernian will appreciate a good solid tempo out in front but from what I have seen of the field I don't think there are any riders that'll be overly keen for there horses to lead so he'll need more than his fair share of luck.

I see Rafferty has drawn on the fence again and i'm thinking the rival Jockeys will be trying to keep him pocketed for as long as possible.

At this stage Chester Road and Return to Rio!!!!!!

Maybe slide both into Rafferty, although I'm not too confident on him..
