i know there have been comments before about accuracy or lack thereof re tabform "markets" BUT calico blue $21??
EP being touted as over the line it seems by a few here, big test for him altho im an unabashed fan of the up n comer(not as BIG as rodent of course  ).

not so much "over the line" Mitey as "over the odds"
At $3.50 I think its about right now

everyone was complaining about how bad the northam cup field was last week, how about this race, its a terrible field for a $125,000 race
  • TheDivaTheDiva    13,248 posts
compared to the rest of the program its fantastic - I do agree tho - not the strongest field.

Interestingly Tuesdays Melbourne Cup meeting card looks a cracker, in contrast to the actual Melbourne Cup meeting at Flemington......which as usual, is sh!t !

hey Tivers - Im a win only better - place punting is for those that sit down to wee or Richmond supporters :)

    Yes, but $15 = $4.50 a drum........
Better than backing BTS or El P outright, and three times the chance of a collect !
    Simple maths.......... :)
  • TiversTivers    7,720 posts
Pretty juicy odds when he's NEVER finished worse than 3rd.
If you're not a money fan though.......I'm happy to take yours ! :)
  • TheDivaTheDiva    13,248 posts
like I said - my market was to 100% and if you can find a bookie who will place bet at 1/4 of there win price I would be surprised also.

PS- I did get better than $4.50 with El Pres - whose a lucky little fella then :D
  • TiversTivers    7,720 posts
Yes, but you weren't stuck in your office on your own, with 3 phone lines ringing when the market came up !

Bookies e/w odds are fixed at 1/4 odds for the place. I was just working off that, but you're probably right........they wouldn't offer a 1/4 stand alone price, generally (my bookie will give me it though ;))

dam work always interrupting more important things like getting a bet on. I can definetly symphathise there. Good Luck with the race whatever way you go.

To be honest, between getting some work at the stables done, watching Derby day, watching the Air Race, keeping the leader of the opposition happy, and having a lemon squash or two ;) I probably won't be having a punt at all..........(on this race).

If anyone fancies the topweight logon to IAS tomorrow.
Am definately going to lay this horse.
I have EP at 5/4 and No1 at 5/2 so you'll get on.
Doubt the toppy can give 5kg to EP and others.

pickle are you betting pre post on that race?
  • redjavelinredjavelin    213 posts
i have been avoiding finding out the market until just now as i havent had time to do the form....and i MUST do the form with no knowledge of
anticipated prices...anyway i was stunned that ep isnt on top of the market...
zhamenka no chance for mine and i agree with the comment on it being a rather pathetic 125 000 race. (royal lott the roughie!)
  • pickle_punterpickle_punter    54 posts
No, Northerly, we're not allowed to bet prepost on WA.
    Company's rules.
  • NortherlyNortherly    251 posts
    why is that pickle?
it would be great to see the prepost markets especially leading into the carnival...
  • pickle_punterpickle_punter    54 posts
    Yeah, I agree!
The main reason is that we can't get off anywhere.
If we want to lay off something we get under-quoted at the track
and Best Bookies only bet us to win a maximum of $5000 per bookie.
When we bet there, the rest usually turn if off or halve our bet.

If it was just the WA punters it would be fine and most of the time we'd win some and loose some. Unfortunately the bigger syndicates in Melb and Syd only bet when they have some inside info and they hammer you when they do. This ok in Syd and Melb because there are many avenues to lay off and reduce the risk. Not so in WA.

Heat 11 from Lark Hill 24/9/07....given the wide run BTS made, was only a length from El Presidente at the end, anyone else seen it? Thoughts? However they were effectively level weights or thereabouts. Big difference tomorrow.

Have to like EP at the weights though. Don't mind Zhamenka, back only 100m and down 7kgs (although up in class). Has the runs on the board, however was beaten by EP earlier in the year at Bunbury over 1400m. 4 starts at the trip, never unplaced and 3 runs at Ascot for 1x1st and 2x2nds.

Whilst the race may be lacking from the last few features sprints, it is bringing some good form from different classes together, so should still be an interesting race.

For mine, think I'll go with EP from BTS and Zhamenka (8.1.11)

El Presidente now into $2.80. :D

Be interesting to read Ascot's betting review on how big the betting move was for it.

 There's no doubting the time was great, actually quite a bit quicker then the northerly stakes i think.

Beat the Storm and WRC are a different kettle of fish , if it comes down to a tight slog i know who won't be winning and thats el presidente.
