Well Well J Mac copped a 20k fine for Excessive use of the whip, he went back to appeal with Cap in Hand and the fine was doubled to 40k, I'm Surprised any Leading WA Trainers have come out in the news saying James was hard done by...
I tried to count the whacks looked like about 15 to me So that's about $2666 per whack.
If Mick Dittman or WA's Kempy got fines for the same they would have ridden for Free their Entire careers.

Do know this though - not a case of if the whip going completely only a matter of when and in about 500 years time if the world still going people will rightfully or wrongfully say - i can’t believe they used a whip on race horses back then they must have been so uncivilised to have done that.
For some too even with padding - a whip is still a whip.
At school got hit with something similar for running amuck - no padding and it bloody hurt - did me good - however still think that’s something good that’s changed. Don’t need it.
Horse racing - i don’t know but that argument of why aren’t protests upheld more often is a good one. Then out of the blue they will uphold one!
Punting wise if lost a race due to the whip rule that’d be enough to give it away. Not such a bad thing 8-X

Just for the record and only for retired hoops - in no particular order. Favourite five. Could be many more others too.

She was a no-nonsense nail salon lady who’d soak Women clients’ hands in a bowl and then deadpan say: “You’re know you're soaking in it.”

Mal would over racing telling you how good he was, his Greatmate Ken Russell was totally the opposite. and better bloke you wouldn't meet.
Still get the humour when I told Mal never forget when he lost both irons at the start on Count Zarpotia had his doog ball coping hammering, the next race was Summer Cup he was indisposed Stewards report said M.J.was stood down to serve bruising and swelling to the genitalia area.
.He said stuff I didn't think anyone would remember that let alone in middle of W A.
Really got him on the chewy when I said when I feeling down I would put the VHS on & watch that replay.
""Champion"" thinking 53 suspension's seems alot but alot Nz.Jocks have had near on 100.

Yes Wayne Harris stg read a good article on him well over 20 years ago and couldn’t believe the injuries he received, my goodness he’s fortunate to be alive from some very serious falls etc. His courage was unbelievable and came back so many times culminating in a fantastic Melbourne Cup winning ride on Juene…took the quinella 10 times with him and an outsider - handy stayer from NSW Oompala for all money was going to run second a furlong out and Paris Lane ( Damian Oliver ) kicked back and held second.
Malcolm Johnston outstanding too - think they’re the guys to ask about the whip etc - be interesting to know what they think and as said Damian Oliver in an article he’s happy to see it go.

3% approximately been upheld.
The reason dismissed because can’t say for certain would’ve made any difference to the result. So the 3% upheld did make a difference ? Unsure how that’s worked out.
Don’t think any race should be lost due to excessive whip use however there’s a compelling argument mounting from the other side that it should.
The next time one is upheld will be interesting to see. I’d dismiss the lot of them but with reservations. It’s hard for the stewards to win here.

No surprise to see him riding Group 1 winners in Japan with huge crowd numbers on track sometimes 100,000.
Something has to improve on though is from a dozen or so rides in the Melbourne Cup yet to run a place…it’s a bet been tempted to contact Ladbrokes on - the odds of Damian Lane to ride a Melbourne Cup winner in the next 10 years - always had a gut feeling he will.

Another thought of at the time was Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi their first child to win Wimbledon before turns 25. They probably would’ve only given you 7/1 and have to wait 25 years to collect that’s if all going well!
25/3/1979 - Dear Ladbrokes I’d like the odds please of a female jockey WINNING the Perth Cup, Adelaide Cup, Caulfield Cup, Melbourne Cup, Brisbane Cup and Sydney Cup before the year 2030.
One of those races you’d still be sweating upon before you collect your 1,000,000 to one ticket which one :-?

Adelaide Cup - Clare Lindop and Rochelle Milnes
Perth Cup - Kyra Yuill and Lucy Fiore
Sydney Cup - Rachel King
Melbourne Cup - Michele Payne and Jamie Melham.
Caulfield Cup - Jamie Melham
Brisbane Cup - Yet to happen
Clare Lindop in winning the Adelaide Cup in 2006 became the first Australian female hoop to win a Group 1 in Australia when the Adelaide Cup was a Group 1 led all the way on Exalted King around 10/1 - 12/1.
Thought she may have been the first lady jockey to ride in the Melbourne Cup - wrong was Maree Lyndon.
Rachel King also won a Group 1 Japan recently.
Wonder where all those punters have gone that used to say won’t be backing that it’s got a “girl” on it.

Finally the penny has dropped - Lindop was the first AUSTRALIAN hoop and Maree Lyndon a Kiwi was the first female jockey in 1987 to ride in the Cup.
Clare Lindop also won the Victoria Derby on the 100/1 chance Rebel Raider. She was outstanding.
