I've noticed that young Jordan Turner is riding Freetime on Wednesday. Immediately upon seeing this I thought to myself that this engagement has the potential to do more harm than good. The horse has been a pretty difficult ride more often than not for both apprentices and senior riders alike. By "harm" I'm mainly thinking of interference caused if the horse does prove difficult for this inexperienced lad, but also for the lads confidence and also the confidence of other trainers/owners in Jordan.
Unless the new trainer had sorted out Freetime's brain of course.
I think this highlights the need for some form of consultation or judgement call by the turf clubs apprentice supervisors rather than allowing these new riders to jump onto any horse after a couple of dozen rides.
Thoughts?

good point, bobby. personally i feel "green", inexperienced apprentices should cut their teeth on the country circuit. the fields are smaller and gives them a chance to get the feel of pace etc. admittedly their peers are not the top jocks but they are horsemen and can impart a wealth of knowledge.
the girls seem to cut their teeth on the outer circuit and so should young jordan, and other 4 claimers...regardless of who his dad is...in fact i think troy would agree.
probably 50 rides in the outer tracks would be an idea...they could do that in a few months and gain invaluable experience.

Apprentice “B” permit: After being granted a permit to ride an
Apprentice who has ridden 5 or more winning rides may apply to the Stewards for daily permission to ride at a Metropolitan Race Meeting other than at race meetings designated by Racing Victoria as being part of the Spring Racing Carnival or
Autumn Racing Carnival.

No offence to the kid but he shouldn't be riding in the city yet. I've watched him closely on a few (Antonino, Resets Mate, Two Strong Hearts) and he looks all at sea. .
Again not being critical of the kid, just think they should have to lose the first kg of their apprenticeship in the country. Or something similar.

Congrats to Jordan for his rides so far and it is great that he is getting rides in the and around the city so that his parents can be there to help and advise..I am sure that when he is right to ride 4 or 5 a day, he will find himself out bush in the near future, where he will show his true ability.
Let the kid breathe and develop, that is why he is a 4kg claimer...They don't have that claim cos they are the best apprentices, they have it cos they are the new apprentice.
Am sure the ride on Freetime is a hold on and let him run type of ride. In which the lightest jock that can hold on is generally the best option....4kg apprentice from the good barrier draw is ideal.
AFTER writing the above i thought i'd go and see his stats...He's ridden up Roebourne!!!! - how more country do we want the lad to go???? haha AND, he is only a 3kg claimer at the midweeks...which i didn't realise happened to 4kg claimers....thought they carried that claim no matter where they rode!?!?!
