I was on last start at 30's, but for mine this horse has no form at Moonee Valley - hopefully from the barrier draw he will sit much closer than the Turnbull run, so the short straight shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Hmm, 5 starts at the course for 1-1-1. Not THAT bad is it?

Oops, my bad - that is pretty good  :)]  :|

I will be on as he filled my pockets last start - I think he'll run a place at the very least, the weight turnaround favours him over PDL, and he did beat Fawkner last start also with 2kgs more.  He only got beaten by 0.5L by IADD when HT carried 3.5kgs more.

A Cox Plate  for australia's leading apprentice. I reckon he might be looking for a valet now. Industry experience highly regarded.

Important to note - only 4 horses in that cox plate had had a recent run (14 days or less). They finished 1st  4th 5th and 9th. Id be looking to forgive some of the horses that finished further back

I thought fiorente was good also

Sorry 1 2 and 4 - meant Foreteller who outperformed his apparent chances.

    Fiorente great.

Just sat down with a beer to watch the day's races at the valley. I think when I see the cox plate I'll get angry, coupled with fact I had a roving first 4 with happy trails as the banker, had 8 coupled with it and decided to leave one out. It was foreteller. Had 11% aswell :-&

A maiden winning the Cox Plate........not good in terms of Australian middle distance racing.

Think there is a over reaction to SA winning the cox. Yes he was a maiden but was run of the race in the guineas and lost on protest start previous. So you think was no superstar when he won his first cox. Slow pace in the race and nobody took the race up to schofield. Credit to the kid for reading the race and riding positive, gave the other jocks in the race a lesson, had the race won on last bend. At least a local bred and owned horse won the race. Danny has had 2 blowout group1s in the last 12 months, doesn't get the credit of the bigger stables but a very astute trainer.

If you had to have a maiden win the Cox Plate, this horse was the one to do it - connections could have easily taken him to the country (not to be a maiden) but they put him up against the best (and he performed fantasically well), and their persistance paid off.  Well done to connections for having a go!

I read somewhere that the horse was originally purchased for greg eurell for 250k

Good luck to the winner but the integrity of the race is shot what is supposed to be our best G1 is now a joke.

His price at the sales in Sydney was $230,000 my comment in my sales catalogue reads nice type just a tad out of my price range.

I don't know about that. Shamus Award was in the first 3 in the Guineas and should have finished much closer than he did. Bossy's comments and expression when interviewed after the race were pretty telling. Before that he copped interference that cost him a group 2, the Stutt Stakes. Pierro & Viscount both won that race before running 3rd in the CP. Another bound and Happy Trails, a 2x G1 winner and proven giant killer, wins. Fiorente, who in the absence of Atlantic Jewel is probably the horse in the country right now. Finally, the way Forteller finished meant if AJ turned up fit, she walks in so  hate the winner for being a maiden if you must, but don't question the quality of the race.

I am not saying that I hate the winner it's just in years gone by the MVRC committee picked the best field possible so that the integrity of the Cox Plate was maintained so it's prestige as the main G1 race was held in high esteem all over the world , now by allowing a maiden to start okay he had some form to back him up but it will be seen as a backward step by racing judges the world over.
