    HOOPS BELMONT PREVIEW

RACE 1 ?WHL LEGAL HANDICAP 2000m
No. 4 CHESTER ROAD - I think we can kick off the return to Belmont Park by backing a winner. (4) CHESTER ROAD is a promising stayer on his way through the grades and with only 54kg on his back, I think he?ll take a stack of beating in this event. He has tactical speed so he should settle in the first couple and if he can repeat his effort from last week, his rivals will be battling to get near him. The stable mate (2) HIBERNIAN has been flying on the country cups circuit. He won the Mt Barker Cup in top fashion and very nearly racked up wins in both the Geraldton and Narrogin Cups. He?s well weighted with 56kg and he?ll be the one storming home late. (9) SUPER HAWK looks the other winning chance in the race. He?s in career best form and is sure to get the sweet run from his inside draw. (8) PINTADA PRINCE is a hard galloper to catch but if he repeats his last start he?ll be in the mix for the novelties.
    Numbers ? 4, 2, 9, 8

    RACE 2 ? WESTSPEED NURSERY HANDICAP 1000m
No. 13 THEORIA ? I?m going for the first starter (13) THEORIA who was mighty impressive in her recent barrier trial win. She sat over the speed and cleared out in the straight to win by 6 lengths under a firm hold. From her good draw, she?ll fire straight into a spot over the speed and if she can bring her trial form to the races, she looms as the one to beat. (8) BONNY BABY was a late scratching after she lashed out at the gates before her debut. She has been back to the trials and performed nicely. I think she?ll be more than competitive at her debut. (7) BLACK TRUFFLE is a speedy customer who should burn over from her wide gate and give a sight. (1) SATURDAY SKIES has race experience on his side and has each way claims.
    Numbers ? 13, 8, 7, 1

RACE 3 ? GENE NICHOLSON BIRTHDAY HANDICAP 1000m
No. 11 JAJA SAAB ? This looks to be a serious three-year-old sprint with some very nice types engaged. (11) JAJA SAAB was unleashed in a Pinjarra maiden and after getting backed off the map, he didn?t let his supporters down, winning by 3 and ? lengths in what was little more than an exhibition gallop. The horse he beat broke his maiden status on Wednesday so the form has been franked to a degree. He is likely to get back from his wide gate but with a quick tempo expected up front, I think he will power over these late. (4) JUST WICKED is nice filly who resumes from a spell. She was a very impressive debut winner over 1000m and was then able to win at 1400m at her third start. She?s another who will get back in running but I expect her to be rattling to the line over the concluding stages. (10) BEGUILE is a very speedy filly who is likely to burn to the front and give them something to catch. If she can get a couple of soft sectionals, she?ll be hard to run down. (1) RIGHT TIME is a professional gelding who has a solid record at the trip. He has solid top four claims.
    Numbers ? 11, 4, 10, 1

    RACE 4 ?GOURMET INDULGENCE HANDICAP
No. 2 MR MOET. We found (2) MR MOET first up at very nice prices and he should be very hard to beat again. He has never won second up but he was desperately unlucky last preparation when he ran into plenty of trouble in the straight and finished off nicely. The stumbling block is barrier 1 but if Peter Hall can get him into the clear, he?s the one they all have to beat. (7) CRISTIANO is becoming a wallet burner for the punters but he does have ability and when it all clicks, he?ll blitz a field one day. (6) COME PARTY is ready to fire now. His last start effort was eye catching and the step up to a mile suits. (4) ELLE CHOISIT is racing very well and there?s always a chance she?ll blow them away late.
    Numbers 4, 2, 9, 8

RACE 5 ? GAZZA TRIGWELL 60 YRS YOUNG GOLDEN HANDICAP 1000m
No. 11 RETURN TO RIO ? This looks like another very good, competitive race, highlighted by the return of a very good sprinter, (11) RETURN TO RIO. In his first preparation he was a dominant winner at his first four starts until he tasted defeat to the brilliant Barakey. He has had two trials to tune him up for his return and his last effort was lovely viewing. With Renee Forrest taking the mount he?ll carry only 51kg and I expect him to fire straight to the front and win. I think the best of the swoopers is (8)METALMAN. He?s a galloper who progressed nicely through the grades last preparation and does possess a big finish when on song. (5) FULL CLIP ran well at his last start, finishing a luckless second. The drop back to 1000m should suit and I expect him to be strong late. (2) BEACH EXPRESS has been in career best form this preparation. If he has another run left in him, he?ll be in the mix.
    Numbers 11, 8, 5, 2

    RACE 6 ? PARRY?S CARPET HANDICAP 1300m
No. 6 TEN ACES ? The early scratching of a couple of the fancied runners has really thrown this race wide open. Without a great deal of confidence I?ll go for (4) TEN ACES. He raced flatly when resuming from a spell but was probably in need of the run. He has a good record at the track and he should sit handy and give a big sight at each way odds. (8) THE TENBY FRIAR has burnt punters throughout his career but is always a chance. He should beat the majority of these on talent alone. (12) SECRET ENIGMA trialled very nicely before his first up performance where he over raced; if he settles better, he has each way claims. (2) NO JURISDICTION disappointed when resuming from a spell but he hails from a strong camp and should be the improver.
    Numbers ? 6, 4, 12, 2

    RACE 7 ? GEMMA CLARK HANDICAP 1200m
No. 5 ROSE ? This looks a cracking race for the fillies and mares. (5) ROSE has been desperately unlucky at her last couple of starts and with Paul Harvey taking the mount, punters will have a wonderful opportunity to start recouping. She?s a mare blessed with a massive finishing burst, so drawing wide suits, as does the return to Belmont Park. I think she is clearly the one to beat. (11) BE SO RYSKI is a very talented mare; she won her first three starts in dominant fashion until her flat effort last time out. She?s been freshened up and Glenn Smith goes back aboard which is a positive. She?ll be the one that Rose will need to run down. (6) UNDERCOVER LIZZY resumes from a spell with a couple of very soft trials under her belt. She?s pint sized but always gives her all. She?ll settle back and rattle late. (4) RESETGOLD hasn?t really come back as I had expected this preparation but if she could find her best form she?d have winning claims.
    Numbers ? 5, 11, 6, 4

    RACE 8 ? TAPPS CONTRACTING HANDICAP 1400m
No. 10 FULL STEAM AHEAD ? We finish the day with a wide open race which should be each way odds the field. I?ll go for another Paul Harvey mount, (10) FULL STEAM AHEAD. He has impressed at both of his two Perth runs, winning once and running an unlucky fourth when he was trapped throughout. I think the step up to 1400m will suit and he has solid each way claims. The former New Zealand galloper (11) SURIBACHI is an interesting runner. He has strong form in New Zealand and he was asked for nothing in a recent trial. Watch betting with him. Likewise (7) ZIPROSSA who makes his debut for the Adam Durrant stable. He has good form in New South Wales and his recent trial win was good viewing. (9) CAPRICIOUS LAD is racing well and is always a chance in this type of race.
    Numbers ? 10, 11, 7, 9

    Race seven
ROSE looks the standout bet of the day, and after her last two luckless runs I think she can post a big win here. Paul Harvey goes on, we move to Belmont and she should (we hope) get room to move and burn in the straight. She posses a turn of foot like none other in the race. A horse like RESETGOLD cannot be underestimated even though its first two runs back from a spell have been below her standards; Jim Taylor did say on the radio that she needed those two runs and that he has stepped up her work, she is over the odds in my opinion. Rouge Dior is a horse that can bounce back here, I think she can possie up just in behind the speed like her first up victory this campaign and give ROSE something to catch. A very rough hope in the race for me is MIRRANON, currently at 61 dollars, she put in a very game effort last start when settling close to last in the matchmaker and finishing a close up fifth.

    Race eight
Very tricky race the last and if I was having a throw at the stumps, FULL STEAM AHEAD would be on top!

You beat me to it Holl. Mirranon is my roughie for the day. Another roughie in the same race is Terminado who races well at Belmont and may go well fresh.

Resetgold is a third up horse, she needs a couple of runs to blow out the cobwebs. Her run in the Matchmaker showed that much. She has come back bigger this time in, and she did indicate that she needed some additional work. So in saying all of that, tomorrow represents a pivotal moment in terms of defining where she goes to for the rest of this campaign and after a short break, where she will be aimed at for the Spring.

Rose is a better mare for tomorrow being the shorter distances but once these two mares go past 1500M I think Resetgold will have her measure quite easily. Be So Ryski shouldn't be left out tomorrow, she could easily spoil the party for the two mentioned.

Damo, Rose is a full to El Pres he won a Railway and probably should have won the KT as well due to a pilot error so i dont understand what you base that past 1500m its a no race ?? Rose has had her share of problems and maybe thats why they have kept her to sprints but id think with this prep under her belt and her legs hold up there is no reason to think that she wont get better upto 1600m as she hasnt been knocked around i understand you have a connection with Resetgold but thats a ballsy statement IMO

Yes I do have a strong connection with Resetgold so that is why I am confident in my statement. If I was closer to the Rose camp perhaps I might have so more knowledge of that mares ability, but being as she is by Mosayter, I think she is a better horse for the shorter distances. Resetgold however is following in her Sire's footsteps and will be a better miler. If she has thrown to her grand sire than my statement is even more accurate. More so than that, just based on an assessment of both mares, I think Rose is limited in scope to less than 1500M and Resetgold shows every sign of getting out to 2000M far more so than being a dominant 1200M mare.

But just so we are clear, I think tomorrow Rose should overhaul Resetgold, if she doesn't, I don't think she will again in any race of significance.

That is a great idea. Or maybe one where people don't get knocked out after a week.

Just a shame this forum didn't organise something for Belmont

mmmm....then a ladder situation ...over 6 weeks where the top 8 go head to head in a one week knockout round...followed by a winter Puntathon at Belmont!!!!

Sounds like a good idea Punter....You tell Chris and Matt about it.. 8)

For Belmont the siren is busted. Seriously even if it rained from now until the last, even heavy rain, it wouldn't shut down Racing there today.

I'm with you re that selection. First up record and wet track form in NZ gives it a huge chance.
