2012 Magic Millions Yearling Sale

I have begun photographing yearlings for the sale which is about 10 weeks away. Last year I featured four Studs, Alwyn Park, Heytesbury, Mogumber Park and Yarradale. Over 2,200 individual views were recorded and this year I am putting them up on my dot com site as well that now records 6,000 page views per week.
All of this I do at no charge. I travel to the Stud, photograph, then post them on my pages and supply them to media outlets. I also display breeding and do some background research on bloodlines etc.
So the next step is up to you, but once I get to half a dozen or so I will close the offer. So as to give the yearlings the best possible exposure, I intend to photograph them all in late January.

If it's that good I wonder if MM will act in a ethical manner and not run the prices up with non-existent bids? :think: :P
What I would like to see is a declaration of the reserve, and if they are uncomfortable with that, it is most likely because the vendor is being unrealistic in their assessment of the market.
If they can't bring themselves to declare the reserve, then the moment it passes the reserve it should be declared as on the market. I know this gets done to a certain extent, and certainly when a vendor is asked by the auctioneer for direction, mid auction, then it is easy to understand that the bidders are very close to securing the horse.
For the most part, when a lot is declared as being here for sale, it goes past the last bid. People want to know that with every bid they are making purchasing decisions.
Or as a purchaser, you can do what I did last sale, and just ask the vendor if they really wanted to sell the horse and what would they let it go for. Because if they didn't know it already, I was declaring my intent to purchase the horse if the expectations met mine and my clients. In the case of the filly I purchased, my opening bid was above the reserve and I didn't have to raise my hand again.
Now not everyone wants to be that transparent, but I find that vendors who are genuine generally get the results that they hope for. Off the top of my head, at least two horses a year for the last 3 to 4 years, I have purchased in this manner.
I guarantee that when I walk around this year at the sales, those vendors will be very forthright, knowing that if I am there to buy, I won't be wasting their time or mine.
Unethical auctioneers should be de-registered..... and horse-whipped :P

I didn't talk to almost every Vendor, didn't walk the yards for four days, didn't inspect over 450 horses, didn't even bid on any of them. You are right and I am mistaken. Feel good now ?

When you say I am being unethical and dishonest, you better have some basis in fact. So far you are just full of bullshit. Youre continued abuse of the rules of this forum by personal attacks and statements not based in fact, are grounds for defamation.

Both horses to be trained by Jim Taylor, Bullsbrook. I make it a practise to work with the Trainers that the yearling will end up with, as my clients prefer a team approach. After the success of placing Famous Roman with Jim, for what turned out to be just one season, it opened the door to a previous purchase of mine on Sam's behalf, Resetgold, to also be trained by Jim.
My friendship with the Macalister family for several years has turned into a close association in bloodstock. I don't know how many horses I have now signed for at auctions. In answer to the query on Contentious, I don't know why she was in my name, as she was one of 7 mares and or weanlings purchased at that sale, or if not that sale, that year.
If I knew I was going to have to defend myself publicly in this way, I would have put some time into researching the when and what's of these transactions. But frankly I am a bit beyond caring at this late hour.
I saw Diva at his office today, and he said not to engage you in discussion. But you are damaging publicly the service I offer people in bloodstock. If anyone on here wants to question what I do, then I reserve the right to try and give an informed response.
As much as I was interested in that lot, the real diamond was coming up a short time later. When I asked Jim Taylor to second guess me on my choice, it was quickly rubber stamped. He already knew what a good horse Barakey would be, so this very correct filly by Magnus from a black type winning half sister to the dam of Barakey was an automatic pick. He was quite chufffed that I said he could have her if she was purchased.
Finally the reason why I won the bidding with just a single bid, is that I spoke extensively with Robbie & Jodie before either yearling went into the ring. Robbie didn't really want to part with her, as he hasn't sold any fillies out of that family prior. What was nice for them was that as the under bidder on lot 414, I pushed the eventual price beyond the reserve as it was also at $75,000 when I had my first bid. It went for $100,000 as I thought that was the upper limits, and I really liked the filly a lot more.
So there is the full story. I am sure that those mentioned won't be offended that I have told this tale as it is history now.
I am sure as hell not going to tell you about deals I am working on at the moment. That would be silly wouldn't it ?
Every horse that has raced in this family has won in town. So yes it is exciting to think of what the future holds for this filly. Being from this late maturing family, and looking at the horse herself, she will not race prior to three years of age.
Where the real pressure will come, will be if Barakey goes to Group level, then this un-named filly subsequently wins, her purchase price would only be a fraction of her worth as a broodmare prospect.
Sadly Ifestio died this year, she left a So Secret Colt and a filly from the previous season. You can be confidant I will look at both horses if they are offered.
The upgrade of his book continues into the future as Alan mentioned, with Demimonde, a Saturday winner by Stratum and out of a very good Melbourne winning mare in La Vie En Rose (Encosta De Lago).
It doesn't stop there as we have some exciting stock to debut in coming months. The majority of them being fillies, so My Atacanta is going to have good mares for many a year to come.
