Impressed with the way the Scopaciri's looked and performed at trials today. Strong early types
  • blinkers on, fully primed. Bob Mac's trialed best in that trial.

Just watched the trial video. Bob's had a good go, thou the winner had a vice grip hold for most of the trial, looks a handy type

Saxon also got a lot of ordinary mares too. His last winner of the season is out of a mare that couldn't run ouit of sight on a dark night and her first three foals were even slower, then Gracetown wins second up on a saturaday
Took a mare to Heytesbury today, Saxon has 140 mares booked in and 30 odd on a waiting list.

Must say I am very surprised

Has had 29 starters for only 7 winners, only 1 of those has won on debut

Granted small sample but would want to be showing more than that for mine

Do you know any Viscount colt currently waiting to be sold? Whats the asking price if there is ? Is it a ready to race horse ?

    cheers!

Yes, I have a Viscount weanling out the back.
I've already named him too - Rocket Man Junior.

    For $200k he's all yours.
Cash up front though please mate

My first foray into breeding this season; an Is It True mare who has had 1 to race, for a for a stakes placed city winner, being served by Oratorio.

    Good luck.
Six successful foals this season from six attempts, no apparent problems at this stage, touch wood.
Really rapt with the Balmont's, lets see if this translates into sales value down the track

A friend had a free return to Bletchley Park (RiP) and Lynward talked him into sending the mare to Balmont over Alfred Nobel. She matched well with both, personally I would have chosen Alfred. Time will tell I guess.

A genuine blow for that breeder.

Yep, I would have thought Alfred would be a better choice commercially. Hopefully for his sake Balmont puts some runs on the board over the next 2 seasons

What rose coloured glasses are you wearing this morning Tivers ?

Daylight finished second, and with the emergence of a few more horses with genuine ability, that performance yesterday will be only good enough for 6th at best.

It was only an 8 horse field afterall.

The Key Business that finished off the race well would be the only other horse I saw through the lens with any chance of making an impression in the months ahead.

Im looking at buying a yearling next year at the sales for a syndicate of mates. Has there been a stallion that you think will be good to follow? Dont have a kings ransom to spend so value is the key! Thanks!

Shop for passed in lots at the premier sale, or be on hand when well bred horses are going through for seemingly cheap prices. It appears that a lot of buyers look for perfection and as a result a lot of handy horses go at very reasonable prices.

Best thing is inspect everything, irrespective of Sire, make up a short list of what you like, then get someone who has some experience in purchasing to cast an eye over for you. One thing I like to do when buying on behalf of an Owner, is to find out the most likely Trainer that this yearling will be going to, and then if they like it as well at least you are starting on the right foot.

I selected a Magnus filly for my major client, who is a half sister to the now race winner Mavromata, and from the family of Barakey (the dams were half sisters) I knew she was something special but asked Jim Taylor to second guess me as he has a good working relationship with the Vendors, and he gives me nothing but honest and sometimes hard advice. Then I asked him if he would train her and he laughed saying of course.

When representing a client it is as much about matching that clients needs to the yearlings available. No sense buying late maturing horses for clients who want a quick return in a 2YO year. So sometimes it is also asking questions of you as well.

If this is all a bit much, see me at the sales in February. I'm always happy to help. Cheers, Damien

We now stand at 16 live My Atacanta foals. One had a slight concern with a knee, but x-ray's have shown it to be perfect and just a short time in confinement has already shown a marked improvement in the visual appeal of the joint. All bar one of the foals has been of a great physical size, but even that smaller foal was lovely in conformation. I know all stallion managers gush about their foals, but the standard of bone this bloke is throwing is staggering.

On his facebook page towards the end of next week, I will have an updated gallery of his foals when time permits me to get to Waterford Stud to take the photos. More about the Stallion here:
