Stallions for your mares this year?Has yearling sales had any sway to your selections this year?

    Only if you are going to sell at the sales. I prefer to sell shares in my horses privately so I can keep a leg or two. So, Blacfriars, Saxon, Kendel Star, based purely on the race results of the progeny and then I will see which mare suits which stallion. Newbies for 2011 so far we have Alfred Noble at Lynward park a well performed son of Danehill Dancer. Others will arrive so I will keep my options open.
    Also Fly Peg is going ok but he is owned by a syndicate and I suspect they are going to put his fee back up, it is also harder to do a deal unless you know one of the owners. Oratorio way overpriced especially when you look at runners to winners.

    Probably one of the few but I've bred a couple of Blackfriars [to well bred mares,that have bred a winner]and had no joy at all.Kendal Star is a stallion that has done it the hard way and is underated.Never used him and unfortunately don't really want to race any that I don't need to.Is Alfred Noble a first season sire or a shuttle?So Secret might be the goods,lovely type and temperament.Metaldale will do it the hard way but has thrown some nice looking progeny.Oratorio gone a little quiet...usually happens with stallions with a lot of hype.Helenus seems to be breeding staying types..I know his youngsters had temperament problems but that's often because they are mentally immature and we WA people want them early, early, early...

    My selection criteria is getting harder as I get older as I do all the work up to breaking myself, temprament has become important.

    I am finding it harder and harder to send to any stallions here. I supported Flying Peg last year but I want to see a bit more of his progeny before committing any more to him. Blackfriars is a good option as he is the only one who has got strong recent results and is priced reasonably but I can't have Oratorio who is triple what he should be.

    Of the newbies I find it difficult to get excited about Alfred Noble or Planet Five. I prefer a colonial bred horse like the new Fastnet Rock stallion at Waterford, but I wish his race record was better. Its always tough, but getting it right has great rewards.

    Most if not all of the Viscount lots in the sale were from top class mares.

    Blackfriars you'll get a better dollar for a lesser mare.

    I'm keen to take a look at Therock when gets here from the east. Feedback from Sydney is strong about his looks and racetrack ability..but will wait to inspect.

    Yep.
    His old man is a proven sire of sires and this bloke showed his share of ability on the track.

    Agree about Blackfriars great value do you think Danehill Express can achieve as much success similar ability on track or is it the mares at Durham Blackfriars has clicked with?

    Gotta admire Viscount's versatility. Can basically get all sorts - loping/bounding stayer like Knightlike/Kidnapped, sprinter/miler mares like Neroli/Miss Pageantry, or a speed merchant like Rocket Man (although likely a freak).

    For most of the proven ones here, you pretty much know what you'll get (ie Oratorio's most likely early only and 1400 tops, Blackfriars 1200 - 1600 3yo onwards).

    If you weren't working on any sort of special theory or matching, Viscount would be the way I'd go (not that I'm playing)

    Latoria's win last week was timely for Oratorio. Gee it was impressive.

    For anyone looking for a cheapy.................

    There is an unadvertised, unraced 3/4 Brother to FAIRY KING PRAWN / Half Brother to EASY ROCKING here (in WA - Serpentine), by Exceed and Excel, dam being G2 winning Twiglet.

    Believe they're only asking $500 to cover vet costs etc.

    My mares go well with Saxon and Vital Equine.Both are proving themselves with winners in each crop.Might wait for a while for Alfred Noble.He looks physically like he will put a bit of European class in his foals but would be wary about putting anything too lightly boned to him.He does look like he has alot of class.Wish I could afford War Chant...
