Sensational stuff Danny Miller
West Australian Racing
I have just been watching the videos from boxing day at Pinjarra and one must marvel at old Dashing Danny Miller. The ride on General Tomas took advantage of the idiotic refusal of Western Australian hoops to lead and set a decent pace. With at least 3 natural leaders in the race all picking their noses and Sleepy Pat on the fave he took off and won yet another race from the front. Good onya Dasher.

I remember working as a junior at the races and my role included entering the jockeys room and the main jockey that had a kind word for me every time I entered... one Danny Miller.
Bumped into him several times over the years at the races and at GP and I received the same warm greeting each time. Excellent when you consider he doesn't even know me.
It is a great credit to Dan that he is still riding winners today including the odd feature race winnner and he has more skill and initiative than a lot of his younger counterparts stacked together.
He takes off early because he is claustrophobic!
Has them sitting either first, last or 3 deep.
Sorry, but the bad rides far outweigh the good and no point giving him riding instructions
Certainly won't be throwing his leg over one of mine.
She went up to the 2200m of the Natasha Trophy for 3yoF and I was so excited to see the engagement of Danny Miller. I said to myself at last she will be let run and given her chance. The field was strong with Kalatiara in hot form and went out $2.50 with Jim Cassidy on board as well as Old Money at $2.60. Obviously they were going to be hard to beat but I couldn't see anything else getting near Play The Whistle. I backed her win/place took quinellas and trifectas and bang...........coming to the turn Dasher has her 6 lengths clear and she's 60-1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kalatiara is unwinding and I'm going to get beaten :x All of a sudden Kalatiara ducks in and PTW holds on to win by a nose! The margin to Old Money in 3rd was 4.5L! To this day it was probably the best bet I ever had as I was supremely confident at huge odds. I was working in those days and bet quite small but I won over 14k. If the same scenario occurred today I reckon I'd win closer to 40k. I've been waiting a long time for something similar but they are rare indeed. Play The Whistle proved it was no fluke as despite a 4kg disavantage at the weights in the Oaks next start she beat the $1.40fav Kalatiara by a length, however she could not beat the improving Old Money who relegated her to 2nd. The margins were 1Lx1L with a further 6.5L to 4th! A great effort by Play The Whistle as Old Money went on to beat Lotilla Bay at WFA in the 2400m CB Cox stks next start before winning the Derby on Boxing Day.
Play The Whistle won a Saturday race 2nd up next prep but she was never the same horse.
I will always remember Dashing Dan for that ride in the Natasha. Imagine being 6 in front on a roughie you expect to win and it will be your biggest ever win in racing..........my heart was pounding....it was amazing.
But now, its in the cup, with different rider.....it has none!
2nd and 3rd were even longer and the winner went on to Group 1 glory!
One of my biggest wins was on the legend that is Dashin Dan Miller.
In the 80's and the Lord Mayors Cup.
Larwoods Gift at 33/1.
Awesome front running dsplay and fell in by a nose.
4 of us had picked a horse each and with Danny winning , we snavelled the trifecta which paid $1000.
Big dollars for young country boys from Gero !!
Also had a nice collect at 33's.

Couple of weeks later.....positive swab.
Attadale would have found it difficult to win giving the other horses a start as its normal pattern suggested. Jess Valas went forward on Eternal Advice last start and it won so why strangle it out the back in a walkathon next start? Striking Viking led in town on a Saturday 2 starts back at a solid clip and got beaten less than a length yet in weak company in slowly run races they don't want to lead???????
If I were a steward I'd be fining or suspending riders for not giving their mount a reasonable chance of winning. That was shocking.
Won't be no sit and sprint in the cup. Rich Success will make sure of that.
