Very interesting race - KIM COIN looks to take up the early speed drawn 1 - then gotta wonder how many of these horses drawn 16+ are gonna accept given Phenomenons has gate 7 and probably get the run of the race. Heaps of emg drawn nice gates - how many of them will get in tho??

    Which riders take which runners?

    Turner - Phenom
    McGruddy - Kim Coin
    Harvey - Flying Falcon
    Whiting - Almohad
    Pike - Shajezar

    others ?????

PS - Given recent feature results i.e. 2 listed races this weekend both winners come from gate 14 - I wonder if any trainers will be too concerned about barriers??

Donizetti was very very smart. Sold to Honkers for decent sum back then and never settled/broke down.
  • GENGEN    174 posts
San Sanatra was a very good horse in the making until he broke down.
Had sh*t loads of leg problems all through.
One of the ones that did not reach their full potential
  • bartfargbartfarg    667 posts
grand turismo also had problems and lots of ability. Always the good ones that break down isn't it.

Interesting that 4 ex Jockeys/turned trainers have trained the winner, 1 ex trotting trainer/driver, 1 ex State Schoolboy footballer. (Gee I must be bored)

Only beat the tiring Liquidation by 3/4 len, and he is many lengths off his best as he is being aimed at March/April and was for that run overweight. Phenomenons is a talented horse, but I'm unsure about being scary, as he didnt win the race in question.

This is true, but Liquidation had a 6L headstart and didn't go around a horse. I'd suggest Phenomenons is a much better animal than Liquidation even accounting for Liquidation being fat.

    second that motion.
  • TheDivaTheDiva    13,248 posts
So this Saturday you should expect that Phenomenons should again finish in front of Liquidation ? But as the latter should be stripping fitter after that last run, it won't be as easy to run past as the last start ?
  • TheDivaTheDiva    13,248 posts
Much rather be on Phenomenon aswell hit the line hard at every start - Liquidation not proven to get the trip yet
  • StaticStatic    276 posts
Phenomenons is a good horse but he hasn't beaten anything good. Can't remember the last time we saw these type of 3yos races have a full field of open chances. It will be interesting to see how he measures up to the victorian rivals if they run in the big races over the carnival.
  • BlakeBlake    8,176 posts
not sure about the depth this year just yet, think they're alright. at least they are competitive races and there's not one dominating. much the same across the country. i think e.i has helped this current bunch of 3yo's (at least in the east) to be strong and competitive as it didn't allow any of them to go anywhere or be sold off during that time. i think we're better for it.
  • DarkDark    909 posts
The horses ratings have been unbelievable, he prob would have gone below 33 last start if he wasnt 4 and 5 wide from the 800!

If he gets a clear run this week he'll win in second gear imo
  • MightAndPowerMightAndPower    4,148 posts
Im in the phenomenons corner as well..doubt 57 will worry him and shouldnt be back last this start.
  • JordanJordan    1,827 posts
Phenomenons a class act and should account for them on Saturday but Derby day could be a different kettle of fish, most of these haven't been past 1800 so we don't who will stay and who won't. Is he too brilliant to stay the 2400, only time will tell??

Just a niggle of doubt for mine, so I will watch on as an interested spectator. Some very good betting contests on paper for Saturday, finding winners will not be easy.

liquidation is still fat and has barrier 17 on saturday so there is a good chance he wont beat phenomenons this saturday but i can bet you he will finsh in front of phenomenoms every start after!!!!!!!!!!!
