R1- MAGIC TO EXCEED resumes after a being spelled off a debut win. That was in a midweek 2yo race back in May when able to roll forward and grind out a victory when getting past the leader late in a good race times and form wise. Has trialled twice for this first up run when third behind Fatale Femme and Universal Pleasure which reads up well after their respective first up runs. Should fire straight to the breeze here and looks a tough horse.

R2- PLEMONT gets her chance to break through back into a maiden for the first time. Has always trialled nicely enough but has bumped into some smart fields at three race starts including a debut second behind Flying Missile and a race containing Buzzoom, Hardly Ever and Devoted first up this prep. Finished within 5.5L of those and within 1L of a subsequent maiden winner as well. Can sit close here from an inside draw and looks a good chance in an even field.

R3- PAMBELLA was a long time class one until she won two back and now might be able to go on with it. Was a good win on that occasion too when forced to go through gaps from four back the fence and prove she wanted to win again. Last start she got back to last in a 60+ race and never looked a chance but found the line strongly. Back to midweek grade, into a smaller field and into a race where she may not have to be last she has a few things in her favour.

R4- TOVARICH looks a big beneficiary of the Shock Result withdrawal. He’s won too races in his career when able to lead at Ascot and should be able to kick through and do that here. First up led over 1200 at Belmont and got a little lost at the cutaway before fading late and last start was dragged back to last from a wide gate and hit the line in a really strong times race. Gets in with a career low weight up a grade and can give them something to catch.

R5- GO FORWARD was really good first up in a stronger race than this. Got back after missing it slightly but worked home really well behind Triple Missile and beating Vadette De Star home. That was off the back of a quiet trial without race day blinkers. From a wide gate in a race without a lot of speed expect him to be able to work his way forward to the breeze either second or third depending on how quick Crypto Queen wants to go.

R6- ARCADIA GRACE hasn’t raced up to the hype of her trials and debut performance in the recent 3yo features. Has still been okay in those races and expect okay to be more than good enough for her to be winning a class three. Gets to 1400 for the first time, gets blinkers and from another low draw to stalk along the inside. Provided Pike gets the gaps she should be winning this.

R7- MRS AMERICA wasn’t the same horse over 1100 as she was on debut at 1300. Was able to travel throughout over 1300 and let down really powerfully to put away an average maiden field with authority. Freshened and back to 1100 after a venue change last start and she was scrubbed along throughout and never got close as a well supported $1.70 favourite. Up to 1400 in a race where she can sit midfield off a moderate tempo should see her go a whole lot better.

R8- LIGHT UP THE MOON clearly has some issues as a 6yo mare with just five starts across three preparations. She does however, clearly have some ability and her last two runs prove that. Two back in early 2020 got home strongly in a fast run mile maiden and last start was a first up winner at 2000m when circling from last and producing a sustained run to get the leader with 5L back to third. Her two 1450m trials this prep have been good enough to suggest she can run another big race first up at 1800.

R9- TREASURED STAR has been kept away from 3yo features so far in her career but looks ready to join in here. Has been super winning at both starts over 1100 this prep which looks way to short for her. The class three field she beat wasn’t bad for that grade and she made them look second rate in fast time and up to 1400 she could improve massively again. The middle draw in a big field looks perfect for her and always worth remembering she’s favourite for the Kingston Town too.

R10- Best Bet: MERCANTO looks like he may have finally put it all together. Ran some big races last prep but was costing himself by missing away and not travelling and looked better in a recent trial. Looked better again on race day first up when jumping cleanly, holding a spot midfield and was bolting on the turn. When the run came he exploded like a horse that could go on with it. Like that he’s just stepping through his grades into a class three here and with the speed on again he should fly late.

Not a good look when steve parnham takes hold of the fav to let his bro into the one out line causing the fav to steady then goes down a nostril in the finish :(

The ride on Pambella was criminal then he causes the horse to over race and throw its head about having to grab hold again

Stewards will be busy with race 7...
    - McGruddy looks like he did exactly the same thing he did on Sat to get time, at the 1600m. Gone.
    - Lucy Warwick caused one of Uncle Bob's to check and in turn anoth checked also, half way down the straight
    - B. Rawiller looked to ease up on the vigour near the line and got pipped for 3rd.

Wow, looking at that head-on, Pike simply has to cop the wrath for that interference.

Wow, Melb Cup day and epic racing stories across the land and you focus on this. I thought Falcon was the most miserable poster on PTT but I think you’ve nabbed him…

Grind that axe! You are a little sniper, for some reason just waiting for me to post. How about contributing to the forum with some form of racing comment rather than being a pest.

You don't have to agree with comments on a forum, (I don't give a single **** if you agree with mine or not), but for **** sake, there are few enough contributors on here already without your type taking pot shots.
  • Read all of your posts. Who takes pot shots? Cheer up, life’s not that miserable. If you want to be a steward that badly instead of a pathetic whiner then just become a steward. Simple! Put up or shut up

Ok, I like watching the races and I tend to watch from that angle. At times I comment on that.
In doing so, I will name those involved. It is impossible to make a comment on interference etc without naming some people- or do you want me to not comment on these things on this, a racing forum?

If this is against the rules in some way, the moderators can choose to delete or modify any of my posts. If it isn't against the rules, the best way to proceed would be to either respond with a comment that explains your opposition to the comment or say nothing. Don't get on here and bag me or my comments- thats not the way a forum should work. It is supposed to be a discussion of some kind.

Not often the day after the cup there is a bigger story than the triumphs and hard luck stories of the race. But well done to everyone involved in the search and discovery of Cleo Smith

Superb win and ride! I was one run off sacking her too she knew it was time to lift, now 3 in a line and some valuable black type.

She is better on top of the ground where she can show her main asset I reckon ...high point to point speed ...my long distance summation of course :))
