I saw this on twitter:

"Black Heart Bart unfortunately bled from both nostrils today and has been retired. What a grand campaigner. $20,000 Perth Yearling Sale buy who retires with earnings of $4,818,580. 17 wins - 6 x Gr1s.
Thanks for the memories Bart! https://t.co/KwcZ9P1Cy2"

A great career. One of the best WA horses in the past 10 years.

Good on him, great horse. Hopefully it’s years and years of green paddocks for him.

Yes that’s right what your saying - mayb now paraletic and your mates need to go to a green paddock as well (or get a real job)

Hope the boy is okay... was worried we were going to see another Hay List episode. Deserved this a while back I reckon

Ever heard of the word hypocrisy Vicbitter. I don't think so . Who wrote this little gem. Britbrat needs to stop personal attacks on people. Not the way to act on the forum. I will give you one guess

Bart retires to picturesque cattle farm

Black Heart Bart will spend the remainder of his days at a Western Australian cattle farm, after connections decided not to send him to Living Legends.

The rising 10-year-old ran his last race at Belmont on Saturday, with trainer Lindsey Smith confirming he had officially been retired.

The six-time Group 1 winner finished his career having won 17 of 62 races with prizemoney of $4,818,580, after being purchased for just $20k in an online sale.

Living Legends confirmed they would be keen to offer a home to the popular galloper, but his connections have decided to keep him closer to them in his original state.

Managing owner Kim Renner, who is a Geraldton builder, said while they were thankful Living Legends had shown interest in Black Heart Bart, they were keeping 'their mate' somewhere they would be able to regularly go and visit him.

"He means so much to us and he's certainly our friend so I've decided to send him to live with a good friend of mine who has a 300-acre cattle farm in Albany," Renner said.

"He'll really enjoy it there among other horses too and it means I can still go and see him more often, there's even a chance that mate's daughter might ride him in shows too.

"I've owned more than 300 horses but he's right up the top of the most special.

"We bought him as a group of five mates and sadly two of those friends have since passed away from cancer and a heart attack, so he's even more special that we were able to share all those moments with him together."

Renner had been the first one to spot Black Heart Bart more than eight years ago and says he's been an owner's dream and deserves a great retirement.

The son of Blackfriars failed to beat a runner home in his final two races in Perth, having bled after finishing well back on Saturday, but Renner has defended connections' decision to continue to race him this year.

"We would do nothing to hurt him because he means so much to us but he's a racehorse and every time previously that he's gone out to the paddock he's always shown us that he wants to keep racing," he said.

"We've received a bit of criticism on social media but because he'd shown us he was back well in himself we thought we'd try and bring him back to Perth for all his fans over here to get one last look at him.

"Obviously we're sad with what happened on Saturday with him having bled, but as that video of him running around the paddock shows post-race, he's a happy guy who has recovered well and I can guarantee will now be given a well-earned retirement in a beautiful place."

Black Heart Bart ???? already enjoying retirement. He has pulled up well after yesterday & we will give him another few days before he heads out to retire.
We will miss having Bart around, but all feel privileged to have worked with such an absolute gentleman and champion.

Most horses look a hell of a lot better whilst in training than they do in retirement. I've never understood why people think it's cruel or greedy to keep racing them. They're pampered whilst racing and let's just say they are often left to go back to nature when retired which isn't necessarily a good thing.

The life of a retired gelding ain’t that great so I can see why they gave him another go

would never have got the name these days with the "black lives matter" making more inroads.

I don't get into politics, I have no time for it. But if Colonial Brewery chang their trading name on the wailings of Shaad D'souza ( a sub standard freelance arts journo) I will boycott the joint. I have a hunch that they are playing this for all its worth to gain some media coverage. Just as bad imo. The beer at Cowaramup Brewing Company leaves it for dead anyway.

    Note...

I don't get into politics, but I do get into beer...

    ;)

I'll have a say, because I love beer too... not my favourite brewery in WA.. there are many better. Total load of bollocks... BUT... its been a HUGE PR exercise for Colonial. Everyone is talking about it. Take a look on the blackbeards and sparrow's fart facebook page... they're getting absolutely slammed!
