Tough ask when you've got access to three a year.
Mind you - from his expression I'd say it was mostly tongue in cheek.

Dean Yendall is a cheeky little bugger. When Sam Hyland went to do the interview after he won his G1 on I Am A Star in the spring, Yendall yelled out to him "Mate! I've got a massive horn right now!"

Comes across as a bright bloke Yendall has to be a job at Aldi for him pushing trolleys once his days in the saddle are done , should ask him why Weiry doesnt use him on his good ones ???

Averages 800 to 1000 rides, 140 wins at 15%, $3.5m in prize-money, year in year out.

Don`t think he will have to worry about a career at Aldi.

$$$ wise who makes more over 12 months ?

What do Hanging Rock CL 1 stake money pay ??? LOL LOL
  • thefalconthefalcon    20,478 posts
dungy, with about $175k a year in riding fees only plus about 150 wins a year he would be a very wealthy man.

    Pike

    750 rides.150 wins at 18%.$4.7mil.

Not a great deal of difference and Pike riding against spuds and getting a leg up with the Peters rides.

Very little between them. Pike winning stake money so far this season 4.8million, Yendall 4.5million.
Difference at standard 5% is 25k, Yendall has an extra 100 rides which gives his earnings closer to Pike.

    D.Lane this season 650 rides and $11m in prize-money.

Makes Pike and Yendall look like amateurs.

Both jocks in question (lane and yendall) are in the top 3 stable riders along with rawiler that ride for weir... Anyone got some stats on Brad to compare

if you look at the lesser mid-week meetings yendall rides a poultice of winners..a lot for weir.

This. Yendall fulfills the same role for Weir that Linda Meech once did for Moody-i.e riding at the junk country & provincial meetings. They race just about every day in Victoria and not all jockeys are up to that grind. So of course he's going to find himself with rides in big races if the stable has multiple runners. Group 1 strike rate would be interesting because Pike doesn't get many chances.

I still rate Pike the better jockey although I'm not surprised there's not much between them. Pike has ridden in HK twice. I doubt Yendall has  been offered-and they often need lightweight riders.

have to remember that yendall  is in the veteran class.

I read somewhere that Victoria is scrapping all Monday meetings.....gives everyone a day off.

About a dozen Mondays in January/February/March being replaced by twilight Wednesdays.

Is that correct he has ridden 1 gr 1 in his entire career?? If so that's pretty poor been doing it for 30 odd years

dungy bet you'd like his bank acct. and property portfolio.

some hoops go their whole careers without a group winner...same as some owners go their whole owning life without a metro winner.

Your spot on Falc making 500/600k a year as a bush jock good coin group 1 s don't really matter when your making that dough

Yendall rode two G1's in the spring. Yankee Rose in Sydney and I Am A Star in Melbourne. Neither were for Weir
Yendall gets very few G1 rides for Weir actually, they normally use Rawiller, Lane, Williams, Amongst others.
He is a natural lightweight so trainers such as Waterhouse have used him on 3yo's in the spring WFA races and handicaps.
I reckon that it is just reward for a bloody hard working jockey who has more than paid his dues on the country and provincial tracks over many years.
As far as ability goes, Pike is the better jockey I feel. However Yendall is proving that given better opportunities, he isn't far behind the best in Victoria. Top ten now for sure there, in a deeper talent pool than in WA
