I think Grant would be devastated, but I spose it was to be expected, hard pill to swallow anyways

Michelle Payne wont be riding as she and Weir have supposedly had a falling out over her lack of availabilty for trackwork due to her post Cup victory fuelled commitments.

Hang on I just read Weir denies it. The Australian reports:

She may not have ridden for Darren Weir’s stable for two months but rest easy, punters, there is no animosity fuelling Weir’s decision not to use jockey Michelle Payne on his horses.

A throwaway line on breakfast radio on Wednesday gave a hint of a rift between the Melbourne Cup-winning combination and sparked a follow-up in a top-selling tabloid yesterday.

The Australian made the observation a month ago and sought comment from Weir, who quickly dismissed talk of Payne being bigger than the stable.

She was not out of favour for telling those who felt, as a woman, she could not compete against the men on Australian racing’s biggest stage to “get stuffed”.

Nor had Payne developed a giant ego on the back of her success aboard Prince Of Penzance on the first Tuesday in November last year.

Yes, as she told The Australian last week, her life had become “such a whirlwind” in the wake of the history-making victory.

Interviews, appearances, civic receptions, speaking engagements, award nominations and even having an inter-city locomotive named in her honour … life just hasn’t been quite the same.

Payne has had just over 30 rides in the past two months. That would normally be the demand on her services in two weeks.

It’s not that she hasn’t been riding winners. She has ridden six at an average bordering on 20 per cent, including the $1 million Magic Millions Sprint at the Gold Coast on Husson Eagle, trained by her brother Patrick.

Payne will partner a promising galloper named Pattern at Flemington tomorrow for owner Lloyd Williams. She rode the newcomer to a stylish victory on debut at Echuca.

Next week, Payne will be in New Zealand as a guest of New Zealand Bloodstock for the Karaka yearling sales and the Karaka Millions. Later in the year, she will ride at Ascot.

In between there are book and film deals being thrashed out by her agent. Nobody, least of all Weir, would deny Payne her chance to inspire women and tell her multi-layered story.

Weir, however, is not one to seek the limelight. Happy to go about business with a minimum of fuss, the Cup is behind him and there are new goals now. His policy is simple. Ride trackwork and trials and you are rewarded with mounts on raceday. No one jockey gets the lion’s share of mounts. They are spread around as many as 10 jockeys. When Payne’s feet touch the ground, Weir will welcome her back to the fold.

“It will all work out,” Weir said.

“All’s good, there’s no drama, but the people who do the work are the
people who get the rides around here — simple as that,’’ Weir said. “I
chop and change riders all the time. I have no stable rider. Michelle’s
    no different than the others.’’

“It is a shame it has come to this,’’ she said, confirming she had
not been required to ride work for Weir for more than a month.

“But I do understand, especially from Darren’s point of view. What he has
done for me is amazing and I will be eternally grateful, but Darren
rewards riders who are there for him and I just haven’t been able to.

If it were spring, you could understand a local trainer travelling her. But not the autumn, when he'll have a zillion here to look after winning everything

If he doesn't like it , he can always tell him to come and grab his horses and take them elsewhere :-S

Xtravagant didn't quite live up to the enormous boom on him in the Levin Classic today. Ran 4th albeit with excuses. Some doubt about him running in the Australian Guineas now, and even if he does, there's no reason to think he'll be in a class of his own.

Don't mind the $8 for Perfect Reflection and the $9 for Mahuta. From what I've read, Press Statement's likely to campaign in Sydney.

@Ohsomodest I love Mahuta, he is just a winner but Flemington has a long straight. If you ran the MM Guineas at HQ, surely Egyptian Symbol beats him? She is crying out for a wide open track like Flemington or one that is kind on swoopers like Randwick. ES is not in betting for the Guineas but as a form reference it certainly doesn't look like a race Perfect Refelction can't win and Playing God ran third in the race a few years back, too.

10per cent gets taken out of the stake money Thoroly and paid directly to the trainer if BP asks for it back who knows but I seriously doubt it

Blinkers on, appears to have over raced - not sure changing gear into a million dollar race is smart!

But the NZ fav was beaten a fair way in the end also.
