Interdominion heat night 2 Bunbury

Harness & Greyhounds

Took a week off from the internet world after doing a heap of do and making some silly comments, back now and refreshed. Really enjoyed the Friday night of racing, can't wait for the final to see how a race pans out at GP when the pace is going to have to be on the way as chances drawn poorly look to put themselves into the race.

Here are my thoughts for Tuesday night.

R1: No1 Bounty Eyre looks the likely leader and short priced favourite and to be unders IMO. I fancy the stablemate No7 Ohoka Squire to get up outside him early and to out stay him. He returned to form Saturday and this is a massive class drop on his prior races.

R2: A no bet race for me but should be well worth a look. 1 Jaxon Fella will want to hold up but there are a few outside him who you would think would want to at least have a look. Ti Amo Franco isn’t racing at its best, I think its best would have it leading and winning but I thought it would do that a couple back and got nowhere near crossing. Soho Lenon has flown the start at times, probably not likely to try with who has drawn under him. The more I look at it the more I think Jaxon Fella may just get an easy lead and be able to steal it. Smokey is doing his own interdominion, if they do go hard early obviously on his turf he’ll be hard to beat. 10 Rocky Marciano is probably the only horse that could tempt me to have a bet if he is longish odds, should get a lovely run through and can sprint well of the soft trip, stable going well. Phoenix Warrior potentially the best horse in the race, it’s very open!

R3: I think the race works out perfectly for No2 My Hard Copy. For Me Franco Ledger isn’t going anywhere near as good as he can. He was help up early Friday but when he did get clear Crusader Banner sprinted away from him. Mach Beauty obviously looks like he’ll attack Franco for the lead, with no sprint lane it should make it interesting. Franco Ledger doesn’t have electric gate speed but does have some, still you would think Mach Beauty will be in front. I think My Hard Copy will either be sitting 1,1 or 1,2 with Billies A Star and Bettors Fire the horses likely to be in front of him in the moving line. I don’t see anyone pocketing him so he can run all over the top of them whenever he likes. I didn’t mind the run of 6 Major Crocker on the first night and with the field he has hit and the form they appear to be in I think he can run on from the back and be in the money, good novelties available playing around No2 My Hard Copy the win anchoring No6 Major Crocker somewhere in the placings.

R4: Call me nuts but I think this might be the race for No5 Scuba Steve. I think he can cross them and with the light weight of Jones in the cart just keep on rolling. Basically every runner is some chance if things unfold well for them.

R5: This is a pretty strong heat. With 9 Waylade being drawn directly behind the stable mate 1 Northview Punter you would think Northview Punter will be looking to hold up. Being a Tritton horse you would expect 2 Easy On The Eye will be shooting for the top. If Lennytheshark was mine I’d be grabbing hold of him immediately, I think there is going to be a speed battle and Lenny is some danger of being 3 deep for a fair while from 3 with 10 Jason Rulz likely to push up hard from the back row. Just on the thinking that they are going to nuts early I’m going to have something the place No5 Libertybelle Midfrew, she went fine in her heat without being able to be extended. She will definitely grab hold early and will be flashing past tired runners late, hopefully there’s enough tired runners!

R6: You can call me nuts again but I think No1 Dynamite Dude is a fantastic chance. Hadn’t had a good look before but he is a magnificent horse to look at. Ran last Friday but really that could be a blessing as it was really nothing more than track work. Known more as a stand horse but I went back and had a look at his form and he had started from 1 before and led comfortably with some good beginners outside him. He’ll have options but I’m wanting him to go for an all the way win. As much as 60/1 has been available. Devendra anywhere from $1.55 to $2.35 available seems massive unders for me, I liked it Friday and was lucky enough to get $11. Liked how it went but that was a far more suitable race. Really liked how the two Hall horses in this race went in their heats, likely to be a lot of front end speed in this so they can both run on at the big odds. Philadelphia Man also likely to be suited by a fast tempo but with points on the board already I expect him to just poke up along the fence so will need a bit of luck. A boilover race for me between the 1,5&6.

R7: All over No1 Glow Bright in this. He is a really capable horse on his night and has shown in his last two that he isn’t far away from his top. There is some early speed outside of him in Courage Tells but I don’t think holding up will be a problem, He’s not winning a lot but I think Morgan Woodley is actually driving in fantastic form at the moment. Out front and dictating I just think he’s going to be running home in a time the others are going to find too hard to get over.

R8: I’m going to back Morgan in to finish off with a double. No1 Twelve Bells runs infinitely better for him than his trainer. He’ll be leading throughout. Think Time Passenger can follow him through and run 2nd.

Nice work Gil, some interesting thoughts. Just on the Sprint Lane, it doesn't state "no Sprint Lane" for the Inters Heats, just the support races ...at least that is what comes up on Harness World. Can anyone clarify?

Adam Hamilton clarified on twitter this morning that here is no sprint lane on Tuesday for all races.

Brilliant work as usual Gilga. Hope you have selected some winners amongst your comments.

Yes the sprint lane will not be used at Bunbury and that was stated during Friday night coverage on Sky.

Noticed that when the fields came out too Jay Jay. A bit odd to state it for every race except the Inters heats.

If there's a sprint lane, why not use it??

I was told that the decision not to use the sprint lane at Bunbury was to maintain the consistency of racing with no sprint lane at GP for the other two sets of heats and the Final.

All heats and final conducted under the same racing conditions.

Riders, Our Blackbird has copped a nasty draw behind My Hard Copy who almost certainly wont go forward. I think he will need a very good drive to place from there. There is going to be a lot of early speed with Machs Beauty going forward and Bettors Fire (maybe) using his gate speed to get a spot, so, I'd reckon Our Blackbird will be in the back half and if My Hard Copy races true to form, he may have to get on his back but couldn't see him getting over the top of him. Really interesting heat and hopefully in front of a big crowd. Plenty are traveling up from Manjimup.....a lot of early closures (3pm) for quite a few business folk.

Can Lenny The Shark lead in his heat and can Northview Punter run into a place if sitting on Lennys back ?

Does anyone know if the Bunbury Turf Club and the trotting club still have reciprocal arrangements for members? eg. Free entry?

It is a Gloucester Park meeting ....being held at Donaldson Park, so don't know how it will work. Am taking my GP Membership badge (and a warm jacket...very cool and breezy down here today) and assume free entry but it is only 15 bucks entry, so want be bothered either way.

I think Lenny will try to utilise gate 3 and have a go for the front but Easy On The Eye will probably lead, Lenny to breeze early and look for a trail, NP may get a soft run but he will need it.

Yes, a jacket a necessity JayJay, that's for sure. The southerly in the evening here in Bunbury has been really picking up.

I'm really looking forward to the night. Probably will miss the first heat, won't be able to knock off work in time. Really interested to see what size the crowd is too.

Night started in a blaze of glory for me nailing the $40 exacta in the first heat but the wheels quickly fell off! The first four in that race was massive $1500 odd.

Going to be really interesting seeing the pref draw and how it falls. Really hope Libertybelle draws an easy heat, think she is flying.

That was a brilliant night on course tonight. Fantastic racing, big crowd, great weather. Lovers Delight went enormous. Philadelphia Man and Lennytheshark top wins. To see such legends of the sport like Gavin Lang up close, for someone who doesn't get to GP at all, was a great experience.

Even saw the great man Danny Miller there!

The locals supported the night really well, thumbs up all round.

Yes, just got home from Bunbury...absolutely spot on Squid, what a fantastic night. Racing was first class, organisation spot on, plenty of Tote access, food, bookies, a great crowd....I questioned GP heirachy as to whether such a good crowd would have been at GP for a 4.50 start....their unanimous response was probably not....a really good move to take the series to Bunbury, an unqualified success. Learnt a fair bit.....Lenny is top class, G.Lang and Philidelphia Man a superb combo and hats of to My Hard Copy and C.Hall on a perfect drive. Lovers Delight was unbelievable, Major Crocker a top run, Blazin N Cullen ran very well ....will add a bit more tomorrow but the track at Bunbury was brilliant....and GP must, simply MUST, be enlarged somehow, whatever the cost or whatever. It is simply too small. Also learnt that Bettors Fire should go to the paddock and although Gil's big tip for Scuba Steve gave us a great sighter, it collapsed close to home. Something not right with Kimba Bay ....and Gary Elson/Time Passenger got us out nicely in front at the end of the night. And yes, the great man Danny Miller looking as dapper as ever. Will rewatch the replay but don't think Waylade got much of crack at them. And the less said about Devendra ( a 26.3 first quarter) the better. And from a purists point of view, how nice is it to see the free legged Avonnova go around. All up, a really top night.

Ian Gurney is a good laugh. In one of the pre race interviews he was asked about the prep for Our Hi Jinx. He says "Aw mate. I just watch Dave Aiken and copy what he does. Have you seen Lenny?"

How big a motor does Devendra have to still run 5th after that ridiculous first quarter. For A Reason looks like he has his mind on other things (as an entire he probably does). Phil Man was showing off. Lenny was great. Class drive from C Hall on My Hard Copy (has anyone clocked his last quarter? Must have been smoking). I might make a second income backing Flaming Flutter for a place. So honest.

Track played great and excellent to see top class racing get taken to country WA.

Can we do this every Tuesday?

JJ how long since you have seen a run like Lovers Delight ? If an odds on favourite worked in the run like that you would be thinking amazing run , but I can't recall ever seeing a legitimate 66/1 chance doing that much work in the run and still grinding away up the straight to run 3rd. And cut me out of all sorts of novelty bets many times!
  • JayJayJayJay    8,623 posts
Yes, a fabulous run from Lovers...had no right to still be there at the end and only just got 3rd, wouldn't have if the race was at GP, that's why we need to do something about the track to make it a fairer contest. I backed it on Friday night but didn't consider it from gate 7. Flaming Flutter and Major Crocker both presented very well in the coat and condition in the parade ring and raced accordingly, Franco Ledger also a much better run. My Hard Copy a 10/10 drive and got home in sub 27 I was told (26.8) off a 1.51.6 mile. If the final was at Bunbury and he got a draw to suit, he would be a real chance. Bettor's looked ...well...to be carrying excess condition ...and Kyle didn't knock him around in the straight. Gil, had a very close look at LBM and hard to gauge as she copped a check and then never really got clear running in the straight. She looked pretty plain, not glowing but might be going a bit better than her form reads, I agree, both her runs haven't been too bad. And I haven't sacked Devendra on that run....was not impressed with the drive full stop. And speaking of sizzling last quarters, Smokey The Bandit is assuming cult hero status...only just missed out...just. He drives him perfectly each week according to his horses race pattern and it's great for racing....something about a good grey horse in the public's mind but there where lots of younger types, kids etc very keen to get a look at Smokey. One thing from last night....aside from all us crusty old fellas, lots of young people on course and not a hint of any anti social stuff....well, it was a Tuesday night....Overall, couldn't fault the night....and the wallet also not complaining.

Tell you who was a good run...held up and travelling ok at the time , not quite up to them but a very good run just the same and with a clearer run would have been closer...Our Blackbird.
  • JayJayJayJay    8,623 posts
Yeah, just a run I thought....but as you say, nice horse but not quite in this class. Is running very honestly. I backed Mirthfull Mac e/w in the first and thought he ran a very tidy race for 2nd. Lenny probably man of the match last night but G.Lang a top drive as well. The PBD draws for Friday night will be critical.
