R1. Perak Turf Club Trophy - Scott Embry
At his best Our Pu Bear would jump and run and be simply too far infront as they rounded the corner for any of them to catch him. Has had a number of issues throughout his career and a trip to the Eastern States was a fairly questionable move but when you have owners willing to fork the bill why not have a throw at the stumps I guess. Purely speculation here, I thought the $34 available was overs and I was happy to give him a go at $8s the place. Lost Heritage is a very talented chasing type, will drop out to almost last from his wide gate and be mowing turf as the leaders tire in the straight. Sanctitude looked extremely well suited on a leader bias track last start and then was slow away with most punters tearing up their ticket after a mere 100m, can bounce back.
3. OUR PU BEAR - 11. LOST HERITAGE - 12. SANCTITUDE
SUGGESTED BET - 3. OUR PU BEAR $20

My Love for Young Lionel is about as close as I'll get to a Valentines Date on Saturday, he looks perfectly placed and poised to return to the winners circle at 1800m. Pike jumping back into the saddle after a luckless last start effort, held up for the majority of the straight behind tiring pair Beach Express and Rebelson, once he saw daylight he was flying to the line. Step up to 1800 looks ideal and he really should be winning this. Ye Olde is the logical danger to the stablemate and beat home Tick Tick Bloom at Bunbury when unable to reel in pacemaker Be So Ryski. Finished bridesmaid at his past 3 and a win is right around the corner. Ask Me Nicely is the most consistent galloper in the field and will be whacking away down the straight. Operational may have finished last in the Cyril Flower but he was $1.01 to finish in that position and his furlong after the winning post was his best, sharp improver.
8. YOUNG LIONEL - 7. YE OLDE - 4. ASK ME NICELY (NZ)
SUGGESTED BET - 8. YOUNG LIONEL $40 x $40
I think that Fiddlers Elbow fresh can run a cheeky race from the inside gate and looms as a handy eachway investment. Early tipping and punting is always tough at Ascot with the degree of leader bias changing from week to week but with no midweek races it may just play fairer than normal but time will tell. Should get a lovely soft run up along the fence behind speedy types in Temporise, Full Clip and Rusty Peaches and be in a position to check across heels and strike late. Flytego is super consistent with two wins and two minors from his last 4. He is the safest way to go in a fairly evenly graded field. Temporise is 70 days between runs but the big gangly galloper will roll along out in front and is the one to catch.
1. FIDDLERS ELBOW - 5. FLYTEGO - 7. TEMPORISE
New Time looks again perfectly placed by Jim Taylor to record his 10th career win and 6th over his pet distance of 7 furlongs. Record at Ascot over 1400m is 14 starts for 4 wins and 3 minors, can lead and roll along or sit back and sprint home hard. Leading and rolling looks to be his favoured way of racing these days and with a safe get away can cross to the rails and control the tempo, from there he looks mighty hard to beat especially if the track is favouring the leaders. First-up last preparation destroyed talented rivals including Kheleva, Need a Lift and Fashion Princess before second-up finishing within a length of Black Heart Bart and Real Love, two of WA's newest stars. Stagnite will relish a step up to 1400m and W.Pike has a great association with the horse riding him to all 5 wins. Petrol Power ran an encouraging race first-up and has imposing stats over 1400m, at Ascot and second-up. Likely run the favourite with his fair share of supporters.
2. NEW TIME - 5. STAGNITE - 7. PETROL POWER
SUGGESTED BET - 2. NEW TIME $40 x $40
Red Ora is obviously the horse to beat, undefeated after 4 runs, drawn perfectly in barrier 5 and W.Pike in the saddle, he will run a fairly short priced favourite and definitely represent the public elect however, I am more than happy to be aboard the Jim Taylor trained gelding in Flying Roar. Should be able to position up one off the fence behind Fire Born and Castle Retreat and possibly seek cover from Pernella Miss should Parnham fire her across to sit outside the lead. Sportsbet are offering 10s and 2.5 which to me is way, way over the odds. He should be a clear second favourite for mine. Red Ora the obvious danger and deserving favourite but far from across the line. Castle Retreat should get a cosy run behind Fire Born and can run a drum. Thinking Rommel will find 1200m too short and will play around him.
4. FLYING ROAR - 3. RED ORA - 2. CASTLE RETREAT
SUGGESTED BET - 4. FLYING ROAR $20 x $80
I've been chirping Neverland as the 2015 Oaks Filly for a number of months now and it's time for her to record Listed Success and I think she can account for most of theses on pure talent alone. By Kentucky Derby winning stallion Big Brown out of Zabeel mare Midnight Special she oozes quality and should sweep past these on her way to bigger and better things. On the 54kg minimum from barrier 7 Pike should have no trouble securing her an economical run in transit and then pounce upon the tiring leaders midway down the straight. Anything over $3 is luxury and I do have her as the best of the day. Stablemates Delicacy and Ideal Image are more proven than her with wins in the Champion Fillies and Burgess Queen respectively but she is on the way up. Tonto and Palace Intruder are both capable geldings first-up over 1500m and might be found wanting at the finish.
12. NEVERLAND - 3. DELICACY - 2. TONTO
SUGGESTED BET - 12. NEVERLAND $50 x $50
Lucky Street has almost certainly showed the best turn of foot we have seen to date in the early 2 year old racing season. Completely blocked for a run on debut Harvey eased the Oratorio gelding down and then at his second career start he blew rivals away with an effortless 4.8 length victory, kept safe and sound for this assignment he returns to the race track after 112 days with the benefit of 2 soft trial victories to his name. Big race rider Paul Harvey in the saddle, drawn perfectly, he looks the hardest to beat. I'm a fan of the Big Brown stock and Light Up The Sky should give a good account of herself off the back of a soft run from barrier 1. Shouldn't spend a penny over the first 600 and be looking to pinch a few cheap runs in the straight to put herself into contention. Senso should find the fence and is definitely the one they will have to catch but expect stiff opposition from Chantski and Puteri Jewel in the battle to find the fence.
5. LUCKY STREET - 11. LIGHT UP THE SKY - 2. SENSO
SUGGESTED BET - 5. LUCKY STREET $20 x $20
Studio Fifty Four could be forced to trek Fifty Four deep in the last after drawning the outside barrier with one hoof in the Swan River but for those who are on track and Fifty Four beers deep drowning their Valentines day sorrows or using the confidence juice to try and grab a late evening date then I think Studio Fifty Four is probably a nice eachway option to round out a competitive card. Finished in the money at all three runs this preparation and while stepping up to Saturday class he meets a fairly weak field. If Staples can get across into a reasonable position just off the speed then he should again run a drum. Illuminated finished off the race nicely behind highly talented filly Neverland before recording his first career victory, Pike in the saddle is a good lead and he will run the favourite. Megg's Currency will be pushing 70-1 as the markets close but her last start run was excellent, the Maley yard is in form and this isn't a strong Saturday line up.
9. STUDIO FIFTY FOUR (NZ) - 14. ILLUMINATED - 16. MEGG'S CURRENCY
SUGGESTED BET - 9. STUDIO FIFTY FOUR (NZ) $10 x $20
