R1. Westspeed Plate - Dylan Allsopp

Molto Allegro has been smoking up the track in her two trials thus far, she beat Allegro Molto by 3.3L, wait'what' You read that right, Molto Allegro beat Allegro Molto, also running in this race, by 3.3L on December 30. This heat is already starting to get to me, pass me my middy. She's drawn well unlike some of the other big chances here so I'm going to back her. One of the aforementioned big chances is Lightning Run who was impressive on Perth Cup day, holding out the Damien Oliver ridden Kamballie by a long neck. She is carrying an extra 2kg today and she'll probably feel every bit of it in the heat and she's from way out in barrier 15, so if she wins it'll be a ripper run, but I'm taking her on today. Silver Trace has also been flying in her trials and will only be carrying 53kg with apprentice Joseph Azzopardi on board, she must be a chance with that weight. Zipline also comes well in the weights, as does Ready To Fire who will only be lumping 52kg.

10. MOLTO ALLEGRO - 5. KAMBALLIE - 11. SILVER TRACE

SUGGESTED BET - 10. MOLTO ALLEGRO $20 x $20

R2. Westspeed Stayers\' Bonus Handicap - Dylan Allsopp

This is a wide open race, nearly every runner has a shot here, a bit like the dancefloor at The Hip-e Club at 2.30 in the morning. Daneclicked’s last two runs were in the ATA where he came a 1.5L 4th to Pop Culture and he was 3.8L from Black Tycoon in the Perth Cup following that. Authentic Style comes to the big smoke after two back-to-back wins in the country, the 3-year-old gelding has a good record so far and comes in carrying just 54kgs. After his day out on Wednesday, William Pike rides Toned here who is running very well at the minute. He’s drawn well and should be there fighting out the finish.

    4. AUTHENTIC STYLE - 2. DANECLICKED - 9. TONED

After winning her only start at Belmont in July, Miss Santa Fe is attempting to make it two-from-two after winning her trial a couple of weeks ago. I always get nervous when one of the Parnham boys is on board but I'll stick with her to get the (melted) chocolates today. Steel Almighty is back from a short spell, and back to the shorter distance he seems to run better at so I expect a good performance from him today. Stepping down in grade is L'Rondine who provides decent value for an each-way investment. He's sure to appreciate the slightly easier company, he did last time when he ran a close second here at Ascot in a 55+ and has drawn well here.

    5. MISS SANTA FE - 4. L'RONDINE - 1. STEEL ALMIGHTY

SUGGESTED BET - 5. MISS SANTA FE $50

Son Of Something cut some tasty shapes on the track last time, coming from well back in the field to record an impressive 2L win. He's been hit in the weights but the other main chances here are also carrying a similar amount so I'll back him to win again after such a good ride. Ye Olde should give thee a red-hot ye run for thine money. I'm looking forward to this battle, it could go either way. Fort Courage has been showing plenty of late too, Ye Olde got him last time and I'm sure he'll be keen to get his revenge today. Despite placing in three of his last four starts, Go Jorj handed up his lead on the turn at Pinjarra to finish 3rd, so a place only here for mine. You've got to respond when they come after you, that's racing.

    4. SON OF SOMETHING - 7. YE OLDE - 5. FORT COURAGE

SUGGESTED BET - 4. SON OF SOMETHING $50

R5. Westspeed Handicap - Dylan Allsopp

With apprentice Jerry Noske on board, Mountain Haze meets Kheleva 4.5kgs to the good from his 0.8L second to him here on New Year's Day. Mountain Haze should be primed to turn the tables on him as a result. Drawn well inside him too, I'll be on the Haze all the way. Ruling Force has been running ok, there's no excuses for him today from barrier 1, he should be in the top three. Secret Diva is building nicely this campaign, she ended up winning her last race by a length here at Ascot over 1400m, so I think she's the one who will follow Mountain Haze and Ruling Force.

    2. MOUNTAIN HAZE - 3. RULING FORCE - 5. SECRET DIVA

    SUGGESTED BET - 2. MOUNTAIN HAZE $100

R6. Scenic Blast Stakes - Dylan Allsopp

Terrific race this one, should be a hard-fought battle with some horses that are due a win. Dueton lowered his colours twice in a row to Magnifisio who's having a spell now, he must feel like Joe Root when he hears Mitchell Johnson is out with a hamstring. He'll be hanging for a win, but the evil dream-shatterer in me tells me he might go down again here. Maybe the fish Jason Whiting on board should have stayed in the water where he belongs with all this heat around. Watermans Bay is the big dog I'm backing to beat Dueton, after having a nice little freshen up and facewash after some terrific runs in the carnival, including a 1.5L third to Buffering who was flying, he should come out fresh and hungry and stamp his authoritie. Excelorada has good form also and should make up the third place-getter.

    1. WATERMANS BAY - 5. DUETON - 2. EXCELORADA

    SUGGESTED BET - 1. WATERMANS BAY $100

The Paseo Del Prado is a vibrant, tree-lined boulevard in central Madrid, Spain. It's a far cry from the straight at Ascot on a 39 degree day but it's a place this horse looks like making its own today. He had the wood on Silver Speck last time and should do again here'Ole'! Amorino has been running well this campaign, he's building, and something must have to go wrong for him to miss out on the places here. In her third start from a spell the consistent mare Sharp Turn should be at the top of her game and fighting out the finish.

    5. PASEO DEL PRADO - 3. SILVER SPECK - 1. AMORINO

SUGGESTED BET - 5. PASEO DEL PRADO $50

Shining Knight looks a special to finish off the day here. With a win over Magnifisio a while back, then a terrific 2L 5th to multiple Group 1 winner Buffering, his second last start shows he's still travelling well. He's got the 3kg allowance for the apprentice Jerry 'Seinfeld' Noske aboard, and has drawn barrier 5. I'm all over him like a cheap suit. He should face stiff competition from Thateldo who has won or placed all of his eight starts thus far. This should be number nine. Thunderluv'n reminds me McLovin' from Superbad'you can't get a more lovable character than that guy so I'm keen. His last start was an impressive win against Amorino in similar company. He goes well second up so I hope he gets a place here. At the end of the day, in Superbad McLovin' gets a heap of underage alcohol for the party and becomes a hero'I hope Thunderluv'n does the same today.

    1. SHINING KNIGHT - 12. THATELDO - 2. THUNDERLUV'N

    SUGGESTED BET - 1. SHINING KNIGHT $100

Watch Heat 2, Silver Trace was a far superior run and a lot faster.

R4 TRADED HALO. Sat off the pace will be a better idea than last start madness.
R8 CAMPORELLA. A huge risk following Rio on this one but I think the horse can defy that. LET'S LIGHTEN UP fills the quinella.
