    GREG HOOPER?S BELMONT PREVIEW

    RACE 1 ? WESTSPEED NURSERY HANDICAP 1200m
No. 12 HARD BALL GET ? We kick off the day with a juvenile event and I?ll go for the Simon Miller trained first starter, (12) HARD BALL GET. He has trialled twice and impressed on both occasions, particularly in his most recent trial performance where he missed the kick and finished off strongly. If he jumps well and can make use of his good gate then he should be hard to beat on debut. (1) STAR OF THE ORIENT steps up to Saturday company after posting two good wins in provincial and midweek events. He has had a month off between runs and he has previously raced well off this type of let up. (4) ACONCAGUA makes his debut for George Daly and his two trials were impressive. Watch the betting with him. (8) CHOISIME found the line solidly on debut, suggesting the 1200m will suit.
    Numbers ? 12, 1, 4, 8

    RACE 2 ? KEVIN O?CONNOR HANDICAP 1200m
No. 1 TEXAN ? The Adam Durrant stable is firing on all cylinders at the moment and one horse that continues to fly the flag for the stable is (1) TEXAN. Since joining the Durrant stable he has started on seven occasions and posted four wins, including his last victory when he was backed off the map. With the 3kg claim for Ben Patterson, he looks very well weighted and this race lacks much depth. Provided he still has some petrol in the tank, he?ll take a stack of beating. (4) MORNING MIST is a quality mare with a terrific strike rate. Jordan Mallyon has ridden her twice for two wins and she looks the obvious danger. (10) MR NICOFFSKI resumes from a spell with the benefit of a very soft trial. He?s a hard horse to catch but if he can produce his best, he?s always a chance at this level. (5) SWEET SERENITY has lacked a little zip this preparation however she comes into the race with solid each way claims.
    Numbers ? 1, 4, 10, 5

    RACE 3 ? playeronline.com.au HANDICAP 1400m
No. 3 BELORA ? I?m happy to have a play here and be on (3) BELORA on an each way basis. He was completely luckless first up, running into traffic problems for the entire straight. The step up to 1400m suits as does drawing away from the fence as he has traditionally raced best when he can wind up into his races. He has also won second up at his last two preparations. (5) BOMBORA is flying this preparation. He prevailed in a two horse war with the talented, Texan first up and then won in a dominant fashion last start. From barrier 5 Patrick Carbery will have him where he wants and he?ll be in the finish again. (11) THE UNDERWORLD raced close to the speed last start and didn?t really finish off with any great gusto. I suspect that ridden colder he might finish with a rush, if so, he?s the value runner. (2) GUM NUT GURU ceases to amaze. He ran a gallant second to Texan last start. He?s becoming a serial placegetter but has obvious each way claims again.
    Numbers ? 3, 5, 11, 2

    RACE 4 ? $125,000 GROUP III STRICKLAND STAKES 2000m
No. 6 DREAMAWAY ? This is an intriguing clash as there doesn?t appear to be a true ?weight-for-age? galloper in the field. However, I do think that the mares, (6) DREAMAWAY and (7) ROSIE ROCKET are the two horses to beat. It is almost a bracket selection but for the sake of tipping I?ll put (6) DREAMAWAY on top. Since returning to WA she hasn?t found a suitable event. Her efforts in both the Roma Cup and Belmont Sprint were solid but she was never a hope last start, dropping back to 1200m and carrying 61.5kg. The step up 2000m and the weight conditions of the race are ticks, as is the fact she?ll have the benefit of Paul Harvey to pilot her. (7) ROSIE ROCKET returned with a career best performance last start, pushing the Group 1 winner Luckygray to a neck under weight-for-age conditions. Quite simply, should she repeat that performance, she will take a stack of beating. I then have the Adam Durrant pair next best. (5) MR MOET is a favourite galloper of mine and he has proven himself to be worthy of a crack at this type of race. Likewise, (4) CHESTER ROAD, who continues to chalk up victories for the stable in lesser grades of races.
    Numbers ? 6, 7, 5, 4

RACE 5 ? WESTSPEED STAYERS? BONUS HANDICAP 2100m
No. 12 COUNTER OFFER ? These restricted grade staying races have been hard work for the punters of recent times and this looks no different. I?ll go for the up and coming mare, (12) COUNTER OFFER. This is her first run at a trip this preparation but the way she has been finding the line suggests she is looking for the 2100m. From barrier 5 she should be able to settle around midfield and she?ll really appreciate only carrying 54.5kg. (5) CYBER CRIME has murdered the punters since his first up win in the state, starting favourite at his next four starts and running four seconds. He clearly has ability but I just want to see him win a race before I put him on top again. (2) FAIR HUNTER put in a career best performance last start, settling off the speed and rattling home over the final 150m to post an impressive win. A repeat effort sees him very hard to beat again. (8) KENBON looks just about ready to fire. His last two efforts are much better than they read on paper.
    Numbers ? 12, 5, 2, 8

    RACE 6 ? DAYANA PLATE 2000m
No. 5 FLAG OFFICER ? The class horse of this race is (5) FLAG OFFICER and under the set weight conditions of this race I suspect he?ll be very hard to beat. He appeared to need the run when resuming in the Belmont Guineas, where he was tackled and headed early but kept on whacking away to the line. Hopefully that run will bring him on fitness wise and if he is able to control the speed from the front, he?ll take some catching. (8) OPERATIONAL resumed with two good wins in midweek company and then just found the opposition a bit sharp in the Belmont Guineas. He was still finishing off solidly. Paul Harvey takes the mount and I think he?ll be strong over the final furlong. (1) BALBONI heads into the race as a maiden but he?ll be breaking that tag sooner rather than later, I suspect. He sat wide and toughed it out very well at his most recent start. (15) WONORG is another galloper who appears suited to the trip. He raced the older horses last start and ran into dead end after dead end in the straight.
    Numbers ? 5, 8, 1, 15

    RACE 7 ? $80,000 LISTED BELMONT OAKS 2000m
No. 1 JUST WICKED ? This is an interesting edition of the Belmont Oaks as we have a couple of classy fillies yet to be tested at a staying trip versus a few lesser credentialed fillies who can definitely stay. Over 2000m and under the weight conditions of the race, I?m happy to stick with the classy fillies with records on the board, (1) JUST WICKED and (3) RANTORINI. (1) JUST WICKED has built up a terrific record in her short career winning four of her eight starts and last time out, she raced the older horses and flashed home for an eye catching second. Clearly she is a question mark over 2000m but I?m always happy to back the class three-year-olds under a set weight scale. (3) RANTORINI looks ready to fire now. She really hit the line with gusto in the Belmont Guineas and she has a touch of class about her, being a listed winner at only her third start. (10 FLIRT WITH ME looks the real stayer in the race. She thundered home two starts back over 1500m and last start she always had her rivals covered in a provincial grade race over 2000m. (7) JIM ?N? JIM was a deserved winner at her last start and although this is a step up in grade, she looks to have solid each way claims.
    Numbers ? 1, 3, 10, 7

    RACE 8 ? twitter.com/perthracing HANDICAP 1400m
No. 10 HI KILMORE ? We finish the day with a wide open race containing plenty of chances. I?ll go for the progressive four-year-old gelding, (10) HI KILMORE. He won very nicely in midweek company last start, sitting midfield and showing a very good turn of foot in the straight to put pay to his rivals. He steps up to Saturday company but this race lacks any real depth and he looks a solid each way gamble. (4) JUST A NOBLE returned to the track in a blaze of glory last start, charging home from the rear to post a first class win. With the claim for Ryan Hill he gets in on the minimum and should be finding the line strongly again. (1) DEVILISH INTENT is a consistent gelding and is always a chance at this level, as is (4) NEW TIME who will get back and finish hard.
    Numbers ? 10, 14, 1, 4

SOD for the jocks challenge at this point??

A novelty bet to go with Chris stating his all up earlier on..

$10 tri on all the b's in the 3rd..belora was held up in the straight last run and Bermaise is back to a barrier where she can settle into the race at the pace that she wants and may round out the tri nicely...Of course GNG (amongst a few others) may spoil that party...maybe the quaddie!!!!

Just read Hoop's assessment above and he likes Belora as well..Damn!!!!!was hoping that run went unnoticed

    Surely the world noticed Rio. I posted this the day of the race;

Forget it ran. Hill is still trying to get out of that pocket.

... and I thought you read all my posts with great enthusiasm.. .. that hurts Rio. :P

It'll be interesting to see what tomorrows track rating is after this current downpour of rain. I'm not convinced it will be effected too much considering the Sun has been out for most of the week.

I do Slip..I do...and put great weight on all your suggestions..Probably saw the name and subconsciously remembered that i had to be on it next time!!! hope that redeems me

Just to add to my earlier post for Saturday...the last race Namisuki and Just a Noble...both ridden by Boy Hill last start, both won..the ride on Namisuki was breathtaking..covered a lot of ground to round them up beautifully...where as Just a Noble worked hard down the outside to just get there..Both good rides full of merit.

They come out this time and he stays on the lesser of the two in my opinion.. i realise JaN was over 1200 and was probably working better at the line, and this is a 1400..But Nam did his over 1400

Think i'll be putting a few dollars on both as the one he jumped off doesn't lose anything with The Fish on board....and that is probably why i'm not a good punter like SLIP is!!!!! 8)

Bombora going to well ATM been attacking the line hard with a bit in hand, belora for 2nd looks an easy exacta. Texan just wins. Cyber crime deserves a win and can hopefully turn the tables.. Really keen on flirt with time as noske had a handfull of rein winning last start coming from a fair way back just get the feeling the horse is class and because of that I give shoot for glory a sneaky chance in the 6th..theirs mine for tomorrow good luck!

    Texan clearly the best surely...
Bombora next best but still a slight risk especially the form Gangemi has been in the past week or so
and Rosie Rocket, uh uh not for me especially up against CR/MM and Dreamaway, and persoanlly I think the market for durrants two are wrong, Chester road should be fav in front of Mr Moet imo

The last time Chester rd and Mr moet met Chester rd absolutely crawled in front and Mr moet ran him to a head. Won't get same favours tomorrow I think Mr moet will give them a cold in the straight. Perth cup horse IMO

IAS have/had chester road as much as 6/1 and mr moet a bit shorter, RR was mid 3's into 2.90 and dreamway around the $4 mark.. thos were the prices/flucs as of yesterday.. not sure what they officially opened up at... either way its going to be a pretty interesting race to watch

    Wonorg
    Rantorini

May you have the winning tickets

Everyone is tipping texan but it doesn't look like a good thing to me. -ve jockey change, pace drawn outside it, had everything in its favour last week with backup, now getting a bit into his prep etc.

He has a task today and looks like a risk.

I doubt a Toodyay winner has ever won the oaks but I'm selecting one today. Allez Marseilles has been as eager to run a distance as Katie Holmes has to run a distance from Tom Cruise.

Having a punt on this race may be a Risky Business but I don't think Allez winning is Mission Impossible and it can be the Top Gun in the race. A Few Good Men will be on it.

I hope you can handle the truth. 8)
  • I am having something on Ziva Star e/w, has a positive riding change, and T T IMO is the best rider of stayers in WA, all I would like to see is fall out of the gates and just sit for as long as he can till he straightens

with the scratching of LNF, throws the strickland wide open.
    d/way 1200 to 2000
    rosie sort of 2nd up
the durrant pair have been up for a while, CR after a 3 week break & mr. moet must be giddy.
what about the old forgotten warhorse, battle emblem??

Show me the money Slip!!

I'm very keen on Rantorni in the Oaks, her last run behind the boys was very good, should be too classy for these....IMO

The way Slip's been tipping though, I'll definitely be including Allez Marseiiles in the novelties.

If they run the one two Slip, you will complete me :P
