A race won by only the best gallopers.
Racing pattern has dictated that its very hard for backmarkers to feature in a high pressure race so a horse capable of setlling midfield or better are best suited.
Favorites have a very poor recent record but that could change this year.
No topweight has won the race in the last 10 years with the biggest weight carried being 55kg.

After the good draw its impossible not to select El Presidente.
EL will be in 2nd half of field most likely? looking for about 5 or 6 openings OR tramping 8 deep to come down the outside??
but i actually agree with you, thats what they should do.
Might tramp wide for the first bend, which is only a right angle turn and then have a long straight to roll forward. Using the extra bit of energy early is better than trying to gun them down in the straight I reckon.
Valas is the perfect jockey for pulling it off too.
But.....somehow I dont think they will instruct her to do this.
I'd have thought his very very easy Guineas win (coupled with the Fairetha also) would've been enough to keep him off the minimum (say 0.5 or 1kg above) in a normally handicapped Railway (without the compression caused by Marasco). I reason (I'm not a handicapper) that it would be fair for him to have to give horses like Glory Hunter (who hasn't even won in open class) at least 0.5kg? That is even accounting for his seemingly poor form since, but the Guineas was a G2 and there aint many of those in WA. . .
In that case, just like Efficient, he'd be guaranteed a start regardless of form because his weight gets him in.
Now, he's on the minimum with everything else and been bumped from a start. If the Marasco nom never took place, I think it would've been a different story.
I'm also very surprised that Tarzi (who's won two welters since he got here and been gapped in one of the weakest Hannan's of the past 10 years) and Glory Hunter have got a run in front of him. What a reward for VC, winning these good races and then having to battle away at WFA. Personally, I'd be pissed off if I was connected with Vain Crusader.
A similar story can be told for Westerly Breeze, who did win an Oaks. But as we all know the Oaks aint traditionally a good measure of greatness, so her case is not as tough.
I'd be very interested to hear Chester's thoughts on this.
I obviously look at it differently to most but he has not enjoyed the easiest of runs in most cases since his return earlier this year.
His second to El Pres was pleasing given the form of El Pres and then he drew wide and had a tough run in the Lee Steere.
His Lee Steere placing has cost him his spot thus far. When reading the forum you would think his form has been terrible which is not the case.
He worked very nicely this morning and I think he would be worthy of a place.
If he gets a start (unlikely) then at least he should jump from barrier 10 which should have him midfield at worst.
Still plenty of nice races for him this summer and he is still just 4 with a lot of maturing to do.
There is plenty to look forward to.
Last year in this race, he was right in the mix, this year maybe not.
Hope you get a run and hope he steps up!
It still might be a fairytale weekend
if vc was at peak, and if got a run, then race would be over thinks master carey!
problem being the 'ifs'
Keep it HUSH HUSH!
