General Stewards inquired into the running and riding of DARK TARGET. When questioned
Jockey D. Staeck advised he had been given no specific instructions apart from settling the
gelding mid field. Jockey Staeck explained that after beginning well the gelding commenced to
race extremely fiercely approximately 300m after the start and despite his efforts he could not
settle the gelding and it had basically taken charge of him. Under these circumstances the
gelding had pulled its way to the lead and had over-raced throughout. Trainer Mrs C. Stelmach
confirmed these instructions and advised that this was only the sixth race start for the gelding
and it was still maturing and that the gelding had returned with an elevated heart rate. It was
now her intention to monitor the recovery of DARK TARGET and depending on the recovery rate
the gelding maybe spelled. In any event it was now her intention to restrict the gelding to races
no greater distances than 1200m.
How many times has this game little filly run a place in the major two and three year old races.
She'll win a nice race one day.
Nothing he could do.
DAMMMMM ITTTTTT :?
Staeck did nothing wrong, watch the replay again.
Back to 1200m, pace on with a sit, or go straight to the front if nothing else wants to (as is generally the case in WA).
