Hmmmm, what has happened Shanghai? Injury or just end of the campaign?

Will he race Saturday? Or is that off too?

Hope all is good with him regardless!

was told, the horse jarred up a bit, so he will see how the horse is on Saturday, before making a decision to race him, -- he did say though after saturdays race ,he will be going out for a spell.

It’s a great pity he is not going onto The Goodwood, with the weight relief he would have received from Takeover Target it would have been a fascinating clash if they both ran.

Well as they say, best to safe than sorry and he still has plenty more racing ahead of him thats for sure!

I would love to see a WA 1200m field with marasco, vizard, dark target, dante's volonte, scenic blast, danny beau - all going hard at it!

no suprise there - 1800m was always gonna be the better option

Why would it be a better option he is a sprinter and finds it hard to win over a longer trip ??? has never won beyond 1400m -7x 1200m wins 2x 1400m wins
  • dungydungy    9,278 posts
    sorry 5 wins at 1400m not 2

I agree Dungy, think della is referring to the level weights of the Strickland - which is definitely better.

Certainly would be a shame if DV doesn't run in the Miss Andretti Sprint. fingers crossed!

If DV doesn't run i think Fred will be spewing as i reckon he's the only reason Marasco went to the Strickland.

I heard Fred say on the radio this morning he's never won beyond 1,400 and dungy has put that as well but i'm sure the Makybe where he beat Apache Cat was over a mile?

    Yes and Yes

Spewin' if DV doesn't run, would have been a gimme and meeting Tarzi at level weights is no help for Marasco. Whereas he could give the rest of the Sprint field 6kgs and still win!

Dungy was going off cris, which says he only won up to 1400m, he did win the Makybe Diva Stakes over 1600m, beating Apache Cat.

In a small field of seven, he is a big chance in Strickland Stakes.

With the small field in the Strickland they'll jog for 1200 metres - the distance may as well be 800. Distance the least of Marasco's concerns.

Interesting point that, I think if they go slow and turn it in to a sprint home Marasco just wins, they are better off running a solid tempo and hoping he doesn’t run out the trip. With that Marasco needs to be ridden much quieter to give him every chance of getting the 1800m, with the small field he’ll be able to round them up pretty easy ya’d think.

How will the distance be any issue for Marasco what so ever--he ran 2nd in an Australian Cup???

Ever since that he’s struggled over further than a mile, after he beat Apache Cat he showed nothing when the distances increased. And to be fair I think the way he was ridden had a lot to do with that performance as well, Childs copped plenty for that ride but in hindsight I doubt he would have been able to get that close if ridden more aggressive.

still disagree with that, why do you say that? because he cant beat DV? ....what would have been the problem with running second on saturday  regardless of subsequent issues possibly with DV.

scale suits and was a dodge DV exercise due to the weights but 2nd up 1800 doesnt suit best imo.

If he's got another target in mind after this Saturday and it's fairly soon i'd agree with you M&P but as a rule Marasco has so few options in WA as far as suitable races are concerned that when a race comes up he looks like he can win he really needs to run in it. No point running a good second in the sprint and being primed to win over 1400m next start but having no race to go to.

i use this word very loosely..supposedly all-aged 1400 in sydney in i think 2 weeks then on to brisbane thereafter, thats what i base my opinion on..BUT they hve probably changed their mind about an e/s campaign already  (current weather may have even put them off hence the change of plan)

Marasco ran third to Rubiscent and Finland in the Underwood over the same distance as the Strickland. Back in the field was Eskimo Queen, Annenkov and Maybe Better.

Finland went on to run 4th in a Cox.

I don't see any competition of near ability in this field.

He's on an oil rig isn't he? Wouldn't have thought he'd have a daily line of communication to trainer.
