I had to get this picture up , been reading about it - it was late 70s , and it was in the Sunday papers in Sydney at the time , and this shows how bent and corrupt things were at the time

The picture is from the Mermbers stand at Racecourse Randwick

Pictured frpom left George Freeman , feared underworld gangster and huge SP bookie - and had quite a few Harold Park drivers on the weekly payroll - paid to hook horses , and of course George would lay them , he couldnt lose , made a small fortune , in the middle is Dr Nick Palotis , had everything Mansion in Bellevue Hill , consulted to the major hospitals , but was totally hooked on the punt , lost several 100 thousand in debt - got hooked up with gangsters imported a heap of drugs - got caught and got 15 years , and on the right is Murray Farquar who at the time was the Chief Magistrate of the Sydney Magistrate Court - thats how brazen it was , he was another one who got hooked on the punt

Watched the GP replays yesterday lunchtime as i allways do - well up to Race 8 anyway

And i must say Panda called them quite nicely , it was refreshing , and to be honest it would have been refreshing anyone different calling them , because there was none of this ,"Oh hes got to make a big decision here " , or there is something 5 back the pegs and the normal caller you can tell hes got it in his 1st 4s so is sweating on it in the run

A couple of other plus points re Panda he paid great attention to the sectional times , and any Trots punter with even 10% of a brain , knows how critical they are . He picked Alta Allure in advance of what was going to happen , and thats not easy because at the top of the straight at GP it can be very cluttered . He also called Coco Dream a naughty mare , i would have called it a wretched mare , how many times that thing has broken in running without interference

I think if VLandys ( given his HP background ) was in charge of GP , i think Panda would get the course commentator role , however as we know , GP is a clicky little mates club , thus i think the only way Panda is going to get that position , is hes got to start washing Radleys car each week

The Stewards Report for GP Friday stated that horses scratched for being unwell, the owner stated in today's press that horses withdrawn due to being dehydrated ;)

Marko is correct in saying that Matt Young should be the caller at GP but Matt is no sheeple where the others are and that doesn't suit GP or the GP Owners Association. The X interviews at GP are a debacle so unprofessional but no one including the stewards( parade ring) want to do anything about it, go to the gallops and try and get away with, two sets of rules.

As i said Warren , the biggest obstacle Panda has , you have to be mates with the right people which is totally unfair but alot of times thats what it comes down to

Classic examples Jimmy Jacques , on Sunday i listened to a podcast , theres 2 parts and i listened to the 2nd half

And boy did Jimmy do it the hard way , and the only reason for that Jacques said ,was Ray Fewings who was a bigshot at TAB Radio and on multiple occassions ,Fewings point blank refused togive him a job

Fewings in my opinion i thought was just a caller , i couldnt stand that bloke thought he was crash hot and came accross as a bit of a smart aarse as well

Anyhow Jimmy said he did a non tab at Strathablyn , keep the tapes - give it one last shot , they said you can call the last race at Kadina or Kapunda Trots , boy did he do it the hard way and he did have a Trots background , drove a double etc , Then Fewings left TAB Radio , jimmy got his opportunity and he became 10 times the caller of Fewings

Like i say you need mates not enemies re the ones selecting the positions

The one exception to that is P VLandys he wants and demands excellance , so he makes his decision re their talent
