The APG Yearling Sale.

Harness & Greyhounds
The APG Sale was on Sunday and out of the 41 lots on sale only 19 sold at a clearance rate of 46.34%, this would have to be the worst result on record.

Apg is being propped up by the WA sales, if your to look at the sales run by Nutrien Equine , apg over east now has to compete with them as far as the number of horses on offer, from memory nutrien have 60 odd lots in qld , 160 odd in nsw etc, even tho not great those stat's and figures for the weekends sales are pretty misleading

Well Qld actually infact have 3 sales competing against one another for perspective buyers if we include the Redcliffe sales, I guess we cant really compare any state until ALL sales are complete but I mean facts and figures only count when they back up certain people's views right

The Western Australian APG Yearling sale was held on Sunday with total sales of $3.7 million certainly a great result for some vendors and congratulations to them. The one concern is that the clearance rate was only 67%( 60% fillies- 77.42% colts) anyone have thoughts.

Superficially, $3.7 Million gross take is very good, the clearance rate of 67% was not so good but not wrist slashing.

Concerning to economists who believe successful businesses have multiple buyers of multiple products in that there were fundamentally 5 buyers/stables who spent a staggering $2.36 million of the $3.7 million take, 64% of all sales.

And even more concerning for those who believe that a strong diverse base is critical to any industry's success, 4 vendors took home $2.46 million of the $3.7 million take, 66% of all sales. The decades long push to eliminate the 100's of hobby breeders (back when 1200 foals where born each year compared to today's underwhelming foal drop of slightly more than 300) has been brutally successful.

Any backslapping taking place after this sale, which had many bells and whistle moments, should be tempered by the reality of some deeper than a finger nail scrape analysis.
