Feels like “100 years ago” when @rodent threw this horse out at very long odds and from memory he duly saluted. The following run also may have won or been placed at big odds. Might have even bobbed up a few times around that period.

Zackariah is now a 12 year old going around today. As we know only a select amount make it to the track as a 12 yr old and his record stands at 107 starts - 7 wins 11 seconds 9 thirds - for $260,000 in prize money, it’s been a long road to hoe.

Amazing how some battling horses keep on keeping on - notice he’s only 33/1 in pre post markets think you’d need around 66/1 and I’ll walk to China if wins but would be a remarkable tale if saluted.

He’s by the late Blackfriars winner of the 1999 VRC Derby ridden by Greg Childs, the runner up was another top 3 yr old Shogun Lodge who protested unsuccessfully.

^^Absolutely…might be a rule in now can’t race after 12 yrs of age too.

Sari Twig was a similar age and Magistrate winning two Perth Cups 81, 82 at 9 and 10.

    They’re a very select lot.

^^ Hahahaha check the date wrote that spink…fortunately was from a couple of weeks ago.

I’m still in shock though but after Prince Of Penzance won the Melbourne Cup nothing will ever surprise again.

Just goes to show with throwaway lines - recall being in the old Hurlingham TAB about 25 years ago and their was a wide open distance race at Belmont Park can’t remember the horse’s name but said to a few of the boys - “look guys this bugger is the only runner that CAN’T win” - well of course it won.

No one realised for a few moments then all at once 10 heads looked around and did i cop it!!

Tell you what- Darren McAullay has to be the worst judge in running.
He said this one was "feeling the squeeze" at about the 600m and it wins... in fact it was about 3 strides later that it took off, and the rest is history.
There are so many scenarios where he says something similar (both positive and negative about how a horse is travelling) and in a split-second the opposite is happening.
You'd hate to be listening into his calls without vision- would do your head in!
Let alone sweating on the actual results of a close finish...

Went back and perused Zackariah’s previous dozen or so runs, several on paper ordinary but mixed in with them is also some quite handy efforts.

A 16 horse field and won on his merits, can only beat what’s against you but whichever way painted doesn’t say a lot for the rest of the field.

The stayers at best are topsy turvy and can sometimes throw up a result.

Hes like alot of callers, his call is based on the fixed prices, is there short and loom into it, he over reacts, the same if a long price horse, is under hands & heels riding he will say it is gone.
