That's Not My Gait

Harness & Greyhounds
Indeed it isn't.The irony is obvious. The report barely believable.

Late Report:

Gloucester Park, Friday 16 January 2026.

RACE 6 – JP’S SPORTS BAR TROTTERS SPRINT (GROUP 3) PACE (1730MS)
Following
the race and after the declaration of All Clear, it was established
that THATS NOT MY GAIT (C Lewis) had completed the event in an incorrect
gait by pacing throughout. THATS NOT MY GAIT was subsequently
disqualified from 8th position under HR66(h) with the placings amended
accordingly. Trainer Mr D Young was advised that the gelding must
complete a satisfactory requalifying trial prior to racing again. Driver
C. Lewis advised that he was unaware the gelding had changed gait to a
pace prior to the start and consequently he had not taken any action
throughout running to correct the gelding and have it race in the
correct gait and he further added that after being caught wide in the
early stages he restrained the gelding to settle at the rear of the
field from where it failed to make any ground, finishing in 8th
position. In considering the matter, Stewards took into account Mr
Lewis’s long driving history which showed no prior matters of this
nature being recorded against him and also the gelding’s finishing
position and subsequent disqualification which resulted in no impact to
betting, or any significant loss of prize money and in all of the
circumstances he was advised that any recurrence of a similar nature may
result in further action being taken against him."

Chris Lewis who I rate as legend of the sport has now got the cross gait double.
Has the Answers refused to pace in race caused two false starts and was scratched, Palomine won the race.

Nominate your gelding for a mares only race and I'm sure someone will explain, why you never got a start.

Well this takes the Cake im afraid

I can think way way back when i owned a couple of pacers , and the deal/arrangement i had with a couple of blokes i knocked around with school , , you come out at 5am in the morning ( before my normal job ) and give us a hand with their whole team , then we wont charge you training fees , just feed cost for my 2

And i loved doing it , one of them was a bit short tempered , and if i was struggling doing up the head check or hoppling them up or putting the spreaders or bell boots on or whatever , then he let me know in no uncertain terms . Early on i can remember asking him about pacing and trotting , and he basically he said , look you dill sitting in the cart you can clearly see the different action for either gait , and i only had to be told the once

For AC Lewis not to realise that horse was pacing throughout , that is a monumental blew an unbelievable blew , and ive even heard Race callers like Lachlan McIntosh ( who has a horse background) , they will pick it in the call , he will say this horse has gone into a pace , and he has had to bust it up to try to go back into a trot

So it is clear the horse has paced all the way.

    The driver pleads guilty.

    And still no penalty.

Why cant the stewards give a penalty when it blatantly clear a rule has been broken?

Might be seen as somewhat hypocritical when they did not pick it up themselves?

Look, I am very loathe to criticise a seemingly very undermanned stewards panel. Empty towers, and seeming only two operational stewards and one inside watching hawkeye or whatever it is called, is insufficient. Going to a single panel was a poor move in my view, hasn't achieved anything positive that I can see.

But to not be aware a horse (with very clearly defined white tape on its legs highlighting its gait) is pacing and not trotting is bordering on unbelievable. Blame Lewis all they like ....and they should...but they declared all clear, they didn't pick it up. It is a major blue, fortunate that the horse ran 8th, very fortunate.

Where is Kristian Hawkins or has he given the Trots the flick , was a jockey , then became a trainer/driver then became a Trots steward

Why he comes to memory , i was thinking about him Sat night re the VK Sprint at Notham , he had that top class , mare , it was going like a gazelle at the time , and from memory won the VK at about 10-1 - either breezed or led

I think it is a massive advantage re a Trots steward if they have actually been a participant , Lou Austin was a Trots steward in Vic for a few years - Shaun Snudden who dominated the NSW Riverina for a few years teaming up with Leigh Sutton , he is now a steward in NSW  Steven Shinn is on the panel in Tassie

Theve been their done that , so they can relate to race incidents , and they would definitely know the difference between pacing and trotting - hah . Some of the stewards reports have been disgraceful , 3 horses a while back at GP on a Frid night all on the 2nd line missed the start by about 35 metres , and they didnt inquire into it , that is shameful and  1000% sackable in my opinion

1.54.7 for Formyeyesonly 2016 and1.54.5 for Scan Air 2009 from the Northam Racebook when they ran the Village Kid Sprint and the Northam Cup on the same night (February 1st, 2020). I had runners in each race and have kept the race book.

HRA says 1.54.8 for Scan Air, so I guess that is the "official" time.

HRA says 1.54.3 for Formyeyesonly, so I guess that is the official time.

Don't know why the disparity between the times.
