Looking through the sports forum, and see where there is a Australian federal election thread . A  American election thread. Yet there is an Ashes series  started in Australia and no thread. Has politics become more interesting than sport or has test cricket against the old enemy become that boring.  (now that the norm seems to be they are over in 3 days)Thought Heads knock on Saturday was brilliant . The poms dindt know where to look. The quote Travball was good. The batting by both teams apart from Head was below par. Starks caught and bowled second innings was brilliant. PI.. Kawaja off there it is

    I wouldn't go writing the Poms off just yet. It is a 5 test series, they played foolishly in Perth but I think batting wise, they have it all over us talent and youth wise, their bowlers not too shabby either. 

    There has been a fair bit of shouting from the roof tops, potential for a lot of egg on a lot of faces because, cut to the chase, and Starc and Head won the Test for Australia, support cast of Marnus and Scott Boland also contributed but if the Poms play smarter, the series is far from done and dusted.

    Just watched 2 one day matches . Plenty of old fashioned dinging going on in the 2020s . Like modern day Boxing looks like defence is fast going missing from Test Cricket .

    Agree with you JJ. Some foolish batting by the old enemy in the first test. , they may have to let go of their new bazball style of play and get back to test match batting if they are to be competitive this summer . When that style of play comes off it looks good when it dosnt the other applies and makes them look foolish.  Still going one up first test is a big morale boost.The Poms will obviosly have to regroup  before the start of the next test lets hope they can for the state of test cricket or not

    Ihave got a different view to most re sport , and it has changed dramatically in the past 6-7 years - to the exrent that from that point on  you would have to pay me to sit down  to watch AFL ,or golf or cricket or whatever for 3 hours how boring , 10 minutes would see me out 

    Ive allways kept fit and absolute love brisk walking , and about 6 years ago i heard a Phys Ed bloke  and he had the best motto of all time and that was , " Move in the morning , get up and move , youve got a pair of legs so use them "

    And i have followed that to a tee , up at 5am , got 3 beautiful bush walking tracks and i go for a 10 mile , 4 hour walk every morning bar Xmas morning  to the Ocean and back . And when you get super fit ( apart from all the physical and mental health benefits ) you want to be active all the time and you absolute hate  sitting down - so sport to me now ive got no interest at all in it from a watching aspect 

    An ex legendary SA Premier passed away recently Steele someone and he said Sport is a total waste of time , i think he is not quite right , because it keeps alot of people fit which is important , however when you get super active then sitting down watching sport is in my opinion  a total waste of time , and i simply havent got the time/hours in the day to waste watching it 

    I use to watch pro golfers hit a little white ball around , and  i now think to myself what an absolute waste of time , could not careless about golf now , got zero interest in it , thats what happens to you when you get super active

    Test Cricket 2024 , just watched another 2 one day matches . Wheres the Edriches , Boycotts , Lawrys , Illingsworths , Borders and Steve Waughs all gone ffs .

    Sadly T20/KFC cricket has killed the art of batsmanship BB.
    The ability to build a long innings, by seeing off good bowling early on difficult pitches is virtually over now.
    The 2 day MCG farce was some of the worst Test batting I have ever seen, the pitch was difficult no doubt but to get rolled for 150 & 130 was pathetic. Only a couple of the dismissals were due to the pitch or good bowling, the majority were poor cricket shots and decision making!

    Bill Lawry just before he got the sack as capt and tossed right out of the team - Neil Harvey was obsessed with getting rid of him , but in that series , at the SCG  Lawry carried his bat - made 60 not out - opened the innings and was not out when the team was dismissed , there was a hole in the pitch , and John Snow kept landing on it with great reward 

    Bradman had a great record and all the rest of it , but i wonder how he would have gone handling those 4 terrifying quicks the West Indies had - there was no respite when facing up to them . . Most attacks have got 1 maybe at 2 at most express bowlers and the remainder are medium or seamers 

    Thus based on that i think the best innings in Test cricket ( and it was a century ) by the length of the Randwick straight was Kim Hughes 100 in Melb ( as Aust Capt ) , he had to face those 4 tear away quicks - there was no respite there was no medium pacer - he stood up to it and it was a magnificent innings 

    The other bloke i had plenty of time for was Graham Gooch , he opened the innings and he to face the might of the West Indies and he had a very good record against them 

    Money - obscene money has totally wrecked sport , smash and bash cricket - the LIV Golf came in 100 million sign on - totally destroyed the tour , Premier League all these overseas owners - even AFL some scrubber is on 600 k , Oliver of Melb 1.3 mill and he is a disgrace his off field behaviour 

    Thats why i have lost basically all interest in sport , the only thing i watch and still enjoy is the Trotting , that is it

    Agree somewhat with Marko, I would much rather go out and do some form of moving around myself than sit around and watch a large amount of pretty mich any sport - do far more listening to sport than watching.

    I feel that stems from never feeling more disconnected from those playing professional sport. You just can't help but feel it is all about the almighty dollar and trying to work out ways of trying to squeeze every last cent out of those that watch rather than participants trying to be the best.

    Multiple times this year I had West Coast supporters (I am Freo) arguing/trying to argue with me and the line that they were taking, you would think they were 15 year veterans with the club who had then moved in to a coaching role rather than what they truly are - a cash camel who has absolutely zero influence or input to any outcome.

    I just can't find that level of passion/interest - the players certainly don't seem to have that level of care.

    To me it's like almost coming to blows over what your favourite movie is. You had no input in the making of it - you just provide the cash to make it viable.

    Remember Greg Shipherd from WA how highly did he value his wicket! Wouldn’t get a look in today. That guy could bat for hours. Chris Tavare from England another.

    Simon Goodwin too, recall Graeme Wood bringing up his 100 in the last over of the day in a Test Match - fantastic innings, fought hard from the opening ball.

    Heard Darren Lehman with modesty say on ABC radio that he wouldn’t have made a run on the wickets of today.

    Imagine facing Anderson from England at his best on these wickets he’d be getting a 8 for every game. Or Malcom Marshall storming in, hard enough to survive those blokes let alone make runs on a green top.

    Grew up listening on Radio with dad , the big fights in 60s and 70s . Lionel Rose , Fighting Harada , Fameshon , Hector Thomson , Rocky Mattioli , Tony Mundine , Kahu Mahunga . Deadset Zerafa tonight has got to be finished at the bigtime . Surely no ones gunna forkout 70 bananas to watch this bloke again .

    Mahungas punch would have KO'd Hagler that night . Tony recovered his career to fight all time legends in Carlos Monzon , Emile Griffith and Big Bad Benny Briscoe. His boxing record puts His son and Danny Green to sleep as they fought in the weakest middleweight era in boxing history . Greens only claim is KOing a shot Roy Jones and beating Anthony . Old Tony put every cent he made into buying houses and flats in inner Sydney which makes him like his son the Smartest boxers in Australias history . Some of the horror stories of retired boxers , footy players and trainers and jockeys should have done what these 2 done .Rose , Gattelari , Hector Thomson , , Famo , did'nt have much treasure at the end .

    You say retired jockeys , well Harry White when he passed away he left $500,000 to Jockeys in need . Peter Crackers Keenan was Harrys best mate and i heard Crackers say that 

    Kahu Mahunga was no flash fighter and he floored Mundine , and from that moment on , no matter how classy Mundine was ,, one decent punch on the jaw down he would go and he did , and everyone knew that , they are the facts

    Yep. Happens to nearly every boxer/ Streetfighter . When they get knocked out for the first time 95% are never the same again . You see it over and over again in the ring and out on the streets . Bulletproff and totally fearless walking through punches then they get knocked out for the first time in their life . Happened to me and everyone i n my boxing club . Something happens mentally to you and your never the same . We used to talk about it often back in the day .

    AT leastback in your day as you say BB in a street or pubfight once you got knocked out or down , that was it . Sometimes if in a pub you might even have a beer with your opponent after the blue. now days you dont even know its coming by some weak gutted dog who colects you whith a haymaker coward punch. Then when your on the floor starts jumping on your head. Thats if they dont pull out a knike in the first place to put a hole in you.
