Race 1: Partington Building Contractors Maiden (1100m)

This is a battle of the "fifty percenters." Vervain makes the trip down for Carey Martin and brings a 66% place rate from a very limited career. The gelding has been knocking on the door with two second-place finishes last prep at Kalgoorlie and looks ready to rumble after a quiet trial. The major threat is I Had A Dream, who is a model of consistency at this level with 11 placings from 21 starts. He’ll be steaming home late, but the 1100m might be a shade sharp if Vervain gets the fly on him.

    • Recommended Bet: High (2 Units), Vervain, $2.75.

    Market (105%)

    RunnerRated OddsLive Price
    Vervain$2.40$2.75
    I Had A Dream$3.80$4.40

    Field$18.00+-

VervainPlaced in 2 of 3 starts. Proven provincial class and well-weighted.
I Had A DreamThe ultimate bridesmaid. Will be in the finish but needs luck from the back.

    Race 2: Rise N Shine Maiden (1300m)

Secret Intent is the standout here based on the stats. With 6 placings from 12 starts, she hits that 50% threshold and has been competing in much tougher provincial maiden company at Belmont and Bunbury. Returning to Esperance for Helen Harding, she gets a significant class drop. Golden Opera is the obvious danger; she was huge when second two starts back and the $2.70 live price reflects that, but Secret Intent has the better class profile.

    • Recommended Bet: Medium (1.5 Units), Secret Intent, $4.60.

    Market (105%)

    Secret Intent$3.50$4.60

Secret IntentClass drop from Metro/Provincial. 50% place record.
Golden OperaLocal hope who is always around the mark. Barrier 7 is ideal.

Race 3: South East Petroleum Handicap (1300m)

A very messy Class 2 where finding a "fifty percenter" is like finding a parking spot at the beach on Christmas Day. Harlequin Prancer is the form runner, coming off a win and a second at the track. She stays at a manageable weight and has tactical speed. Meat Pie Artie is the "saver"—he won well last start over 1200m and the extra 100m shouldn't pose an issue.

    • Recommended Bet: Bet (1 Unit), Harlequin Prancer, $4.40.

    Market (105%)

    RunnerRated OddsLive Price
    Harlequin Prancer$4.50$4.40
    Meat Pie Artie$5.50$4.40

Harlequin PrancerUltra-consistent local form. Maps to lead or sit 2nd.
Meat Pie ArtieHard to knock winning form, though the speed map is slightly trickier here.

Race 4: Bott Livestock Handicap (2000m)

Titan Rising has found his feet in Esperance. He was narrowly beaten into second last start over 1600m and the step up to 2000m looks perfect for a horse with his staying pedigree. He’s well-weighted after Ava Catarino’s 2kg claim. Wife Says Yes is the main danger; she flew home for second two starts back and was a victim of circumstances last time.

    • Recommended Bet: High (2 Units), Titan Rising, $3.10.

    Market (105%)

    RunnerRated OddsLive Price
    Titan Rising$2.80$3.10

Titan RisingBest weighted runner after the claim. Ready for the distance.

Race 5: Ultimate Enterprises Handicap (1600m)

Zadows Landing is on a tear. He followed up a maiden win with a dominant Class 2 victory over this track and distance. He is a "fifty percenter" (5/8) and clearly loves the Esperance air. Even with the rise in class, he maps to get the perfect run behind the speed. Razmas is the logical danger, having beaten several of these last start, but Zadows Landing has more upside.

    • Recommended Bet: High (2 Units), Zadows Landing, $3.20.

    • Roughie Bomb: Lacie Ace ($11.00) was a narrow second to Razmas two starts ago and is a winner at the track.

    Market (105%)

    RunnerRated OddsLive Price
    Zadows Landing$3.00$3.20
    Razmas$5.50$6.00
    Secricity$6.00$5.50

Zadows Landing62.5% place rate. Looking for the hat-trick and well-weighted.
RazmasTough as old boots. Will be in the firing line for a long way.

Race 6: Greg Horan Construction Pty Ltd Handicap (1200m)

Buster's Girl is a model of consistency for Campbell McCallum. She has placed in 6 of 15 starts and was brave when run down late last time. From barrier 2, Chloe Azzopardi can dictate the tempo. Oregon Hiker is the "saver"—he won well last start and Natika Riordan’s 2kg claim makes him very dangerous at the weights.

    • Recommended Bet: Medium (1.5 Units), Buster's Girl, $4.40.

    Market (105%)

    RunnerRated OddsLive Price
    Buster's Girl$4.20$4.40
    Oregon Hiker$5.00$6.50
    Midnight Rush$6.50$4.80

    Field$15.00+-

Buster's GirlExcellent place record. Hard to get past from an inside draw.
Oregon HikerLast start winner who thrives in this grade. The claim is key.

    Race 7: Spotty's Mechanical Handicap (1400m)

This is the play of the day. The Jester's Son is a genuine "fifty percenter" with an incredible 14 placings from 19 starts (73.6%). He is as honest as the day is long and won two on the bounce at Kalgoorlie before a spell. He returns here and despite the weight, his class should carry him through. Dadirra is the danger coming off a last-start win, but she’ll have to work harder from barrier 10.

    • Recommended Bet: Best Bet (3 Units), The Jester's Son, $3.10.

    Market (105%)

    RunnerRated OddsLive Price
    The Jester's Son$2.50$3.10
    Dadirra$5.00$4.40

    Field$25.00+-

The Jester's SonExceptional place percentage. Clearly the class runner of the field.
DadirraIn career-best form but faces a tougher map today.

How sloppy are the official standards? It's pathetic. Race 7 Esperance on 27-12-25. Cap Cavour #1 the grey in blue and white is officially beaten 1.5L. The other grey Run 'N' Ginger in the pink is officially beaten 2L. There's no way there is a half length between them. Lazy as f###.
