    I was on El Alamein  :))
     If true, it should be a sackable offence for the steward in charge. They usually get "admonished".

    El Alamein appears to have a white sock on his off hind going by the footage of his trials. The winner of race 2 didn't. 
     The favourite punters in the 2nd will be filthy unless El Alamein bolts in next start. If he flops... ouch.

    Regardless of the 'brand checker", is it not the trainers responsibility to present and saddle up the right horse? Does the result stand payout wise or will they redo the dividends sans the incorrect horse being disqualified? Very many questions.

    Quite few trainers don't even attend Saturday meetings, let alone country, Prerace scans could be right, then saddle placed on wrong horse. Trainer was there in this instance, but few spend time ertertaining owners

    Would there be grounds for a civil case/class action for restitution if negligence or malpractice can be established?  After dividends are declared, it would be very hard to "balance" everything up and declare new dividends, which is probably what should happen. The stewards report should establish what actually caused El Alamein to be disqualified.

    RACE 2: MAIDEN (1000m)

    RWWA Stewards have conducted an inquiry into the winner of Race 2, EL ALAMEIN trained by
    Mr Paul Jordan.
    Following the race and correct weight, it was brought to the attention of the Stewards that there
    had been an error with respect to the presentation of EL ALAMEIN for Race 2.
    An examination of the horse that was being conveyed for swabbing confirmed it to be
    URQUHARTS BLUFF.
    On inquiry, it was established that acting on Mr Jordan’s direction, the staff member assisting
    him had incorrectly saddled his other runner URQUHARTS BLUFF (Bay gelding) which was due to
    race in Race 6 over 1400m in place of EL ALAMEIN (Brown gelding). Both horses being listed to
    carry blinkers.
    Mr Jordan acknowledged that he had not identified the correct horse to his staff who were
    acting on his instructions.
    Upon interviewing the official responsible for verifying the identity of horses prior to racing, he
    acknowledged that he had not identified that the incorrect horse was proceeding to race.
    A review of available wagering data indicated all activity to be within routine parameters with
    the TABtouch fixed odds price fluctuating from $4 to $7.
    After considering the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that the error was not deliberate
    and was the result of human error.
    Acting under AR 99 (2) EL ALAMEIN was subsequently disqualified from the race with placings
    amended accordingly.
    Mr Jordan pleaded guilty to a breach of AR 99 (1) that as the trainer of EL AMAEIN he did
    present the incorrect horse to race in Race 2 at Northam.
    The Stewards have reserved their decision with respect to penalty.
    The official responsible for verifying the identity of horses prior to racing was stood down from
    duty pending further investigations.
    Further analysis of wagering data is also to be conducted.

    A lot of trainers saddle up 8 or 10 horses a meeting. Surely you can’t mix up the only two you have in on the day unless you’re losing it. ????

    'Review of Wagering data to be within the parameters' .. maybe, but you had a horse win a race that was running out of its class, unfair for those betting on horses they believed were taking on other 'Maidens'.

    One is a registered "bay", the other a registered "brown".
    Not giving them any excuses but the difference between brown and bay is in the eye of the beholder.  Look at the replay of El Alemain in his recent trial win and Urquharts Bluff in his recent runs and they are the same colour for all intents and purposes.

    From the information above and stewards report the trainer was on course,,did a post race interview and would of been present in the enclosure when the horse returned after the race,why didn't he alert the officials before correct weight was announced,surely he would of known it was the incorrect horse.

    What would you do in that situation if you'd had $2,000 on your horse? Maybe your staff have backed it? Maybe your owners have backed it? Would you play dumb and become aware after correct weight and let everybody collect? Or would you alert stewards before correct weight and everyone does their cash?
     It's a dilemma due to the dumb rule. The rule should be changed so that the runner becomes a late scratching. It screws over quaddy punters but it's the best way to protect punters. Of course if correct weight goes through, there's not much that can be done. At least it would be better than what we have now. If it was picked up prior to correct weight and the horse is DQd then the punters who backed it get shafted.
     It's so rare, I'm sure the stewards who i.d horses get complacent. It might be worth doing what they do at airports to keep security on their toes i.e intentionally send out the wrong horse every month or so to see if it's detected.

    Yes, that may be so but the white sock on the offside rear of El Alamein and the absence of any white on Urquharts Bluff  is a stark contrast?

    If no one say anything before correct weight it doesn't matter what ruling you have.
    The punters do their money and in this case the majority of them have, as the favorite on both tote and fixed odds has been cheated out of a win. 
    The punters who have backed El Alamein,have gained their funds illegally, hopefully without their knowledge.
    Integrity is a big issue in racing ,playing dumb doesn't cut the mustard.
    The disqualification rule and other rules are there also as a deterrent ,so fairness and honesty is right across the board.
    To make the horse a late scratching only opens the door for a dishonest person or persons to chance their arm, at least they are going to get their money back if caught out.
