At least they turn up at Pinjarra and good on them. even the ducks have deserted GP. Such a waste of a very poorly managed iconic venue.

Been betting for a fair while re decent bets exclusively in NSW , with the exception of Menangle of course

But Super keen on one at Penrith tonight - Race 7 no 9 Mister Quirk  @ the $26 - you can only go on its efforts in NSW , its last 2 runs - in particular its last run , where it did a mountain of work in slick time over the long distance and stuck on really good  - back to the sprint trip tonight which will suit

My only concern is , and not suggesting anything untoward but they have stood down recently about 5-6 trainers in NSW , blokes who  improve horses . And Mr Quirk had not form at all in SA , on those runs they would have bought the horse for about a grand tops

Interesting race this - the 2 equal faves at Even money , one trained by the son Michael and the other trained by the father Ian Stanley , lets hope there is a bit of ill feeling between the 2 of them  - and they declare each other on .

Announced on the Preview this morning that Tim Walker is leaving Tabradio and going to the WACA in a promotions role.

Has been a great promoter of harness racing and will be difficult to replace.

Marko don't have to be dead to be stiff.

Been too busy working and just knocked off for the Day

But just looked up Penrith results - Race 1 - Mister Quirk $26 fixed again and paid $34 on the tote - no going 3 back the pegs this week

Punting at times can send you into the looney bin

I am seeing a few green shoots under the revised handicapping/programming initiative.

105 final acceptors from 120 available slots in the 10 races of Friday night at GP.

Average winning price was $7.00 with only three favourites saluting.

Four odds in favourites with only one winning.

The Media Tipsters were regularly tipping 6 to 8 winners on Friday nights but that has reduced to 3 or 4 the last two weeks.

Not sure whether any of the above has translated to increased turnover and time will tell.

I hope there is no one out there with a big container of Roundup to kill off the green shoots.

Incidentally winning barriers were interesting as No 1 did not figure.

    2, 3. 6(2), 7(4) 8(2)

The trend established soon after NR's implementation has been maintained. The data set on all that you mention..... on field sizes, on SP of favourites, on average winning SP is clear, to all except those who don't want to see it, along with win pool TABtouch data from later into the programme on Friday Nights.

The programming under HWOE clearly wasn't helping, it was stagnant "Cut N Paste", week in week out, and those ridiculous "gifts" to a select few via 3,4 and 5 horse  $30k FFA's with a $1.04 favourite have been eliminated.

9 weeks in a row has seen HQ with 100+ final acceptors. It is a different mix of horses racing but as we continually get told, no turnover, no future and these programmes keep producing fields with situations like $5.oo favourite the field, and punters will bet on them. They won't bet of $1.04 RBD barrier one processions.

For the Industry as a whole, It would be a tragic regression to revert to the situation of the previous 6 years.

The gallops are the same for the past 3 weeks (someone holidays or RWWA stopping)

Any thoughts on the Tabtouch Punters Club promotion at GP on 7th November.

$990 for a table of six gets you:
    • full buffet
    • drinks all night
    • $450 to bet with - you keep the winnings
    • Door prozes of $3000, $2000 and $1000.

Seems like someone in the handicappers office will be earning plenty of overtime with GPM fields expected to be available at 11pm tonight instead of 3pm!

Fields out with 9 races with full fields plus emergencies in some cases. Only race without full field is the trotters.

Yep, the trotters let down the side with only 8 acceptors but overall, 116 acceptors, very close to the perfect score of 120, a full house. Had they split the 0w/18k race, they would have had another full field and hit 120 acceptors, something that was never ever achieved in 318 tries under HWOE. And yes, I copped a ballot.

Same meeting last year, same feature, there was one full field (The 2YO Classic). There were 4 x 8 horse fields and 2 x 7 horse fields with no third dividend and an 8 horse $31k FFA.

And some of the Pearl clutching Geckos continue to work overtime having to sing a bit harder for their supper.

Central Wheatbelt (Kellerberrin) placing the interests of the Industry first by topping up stakes for this Sunday to $7,000 using club funds.

Magnificent gesture to rise above self interest and obviously will be applauded and appreciated by some who have actively sought the closure of the club.

Talk of closing Racing Radio, saving of 4 million a year, beneficial or not ?
  • JayJayJayJay    8,623 posts
It costs that much to run? Does anyone listen to it? What are it's rating figures, pretty miniscule I would suggest?

It's sale has been a poorly kept secret for months, no surprise that the Walker boy moved over the road. SEN suggested with Gareth Hall doing the morning show from Melbourne?

I noticed the morning news is exactly the same morning news from RSN Melbourne?

And a trainer who wants the club to shut has 4 horses racing, it must be the increased prizemoney

There is an interesting backdrop to the story on how Central Wheatbelt are racing for the $6,999 on Sunday.

But I will confirm detail before posting. From what I hear, it seems "it is not all that it seems" and that the local club is fighting a spirited rear guard action.

I smell a rat JayJay and boy the rats are rather large down Osborne Park way.

Yep, definitely a large and rapacious rodent on the loose around Hasler Drive.

Link to a story on CWHRC Boosts Prize Money This Season:

A disingenous piece of spin that is significant for what it doesn't say complete without the authors byline attached to it, unlike every other "News article" on the website?

What it doesn't say is that RWWA have CUT stakes for all of Central Wheatbelt's features, their various Cup races, the Dainty's Daughter Classic etc. These races were previously staked at $8,000 but the club has been told (and no doubt other outer clubs receiving the same advice) that ALL programmed races at CWHRC will be staked at $6,240, full stop.

So, the attraction of taking a horse to Kellerberrin to race for a higher stake (and put another couple on the float while your at it) has been removed. Unchecked, this would result in smaller fields and perhaps give RWWA the ammo they require to shut them down, if the government will let them. If  the government won't let them, can one be forgiven for thinking these cuts may be a "death by a thousand cuts" scenario?

"Your field sizes are too small to let the meeting go ahead? Sorry"

What this piece of spin also fails to mention is that the club is not only putting funds in to boost base stakes to $6,999 (a strange number but under the $7,000 threshold to keep the NR win penalty to 3 points), which is acknowledged, but nowhere does it state that the Club is also funding the increase in Cup Prizemoney (Merredin, Trayning, Cunderdin etc ...the NE District Cups held prior to the previous "rationalisation" and the formation of CWHRC) from the $6,240 RWWA is providing  (previously $8,000) to the $9,000 on offer for the upcoming Merredin Cup.

Let us wait and see if this "urgent cost cutting" that is being applied to outer community club feature races is also applied to the massive loss making enterprise that is Gloucester Park on a Friday Night, currently returning 30.9 cents in the dollar, far less than ANY other club? Will Pinjarra and Bunbury be subjected to reductions in stake allocations for their Cups and features?

The betting is that the all powerful Geckos Club will not be having its corns trodden on.

Hats off to the CWHRC Committee for making this  move to head off what is basically an assault on their existence.

RWWA  Were suppose to give G.P. 24.7 million for changes and rearranges, then G.P. WERE TO GET 2 MILLION BACK PER YEAR FOR FIVE YEARS. FROM THE DEVELOPERS.,

On property worth  80 million ?  Trotting is bolting.

So does that mean no radio at all ( no shows or previews and reviews) or just broadcasting races with no employees ?
  • FrogFrog    169 posts
So why update Osbourne Park ?
Plus I heard they brought the property instant of renting.
Maybe selling and renting out ?
