I didn't have a lot of confidence in thinking I could map tonight's races all that well but I've still backed a few.

R1 No1 Tinseltown. I thought he could do enough to lead, I'm not super confident he can win but is EW now and if he can just repeat last week he can probably get home in a couple of 28.5 quarters which would make him hard to get passed.

R3 No4 Ragazzo Mach was never a horse I was overly fond of but he has turned the corner the last month, class will see him win.

R4 No10 Miracle Moose. Going to have something EW the Moose, he was poking up nicely through them last start-just hoping the 1,9 and maybe so.ething in-between cook it early and he can be last man standing.

R5 No12 Minstrell. Some really nice prices during the week was able to have 75w25plc to cover the bet. I just think this works out perfect for him. Magnificent Storm should get the breeze outside Lavra Joe pretty comfortably but I can just Aldo not wanting Joe to getaway with too much and them going to quick from the 1400m-600m setting it up for Minstrell to again be last man standing coming from a lovely soft trip in the moving line. Still $15-$18 around Minstrell for the WA Pacing Cup aswell which I think is great shopping as he looks one to me that will appreciate the longer trip.

R7 No1 Jamesbutt into R9 No2 Handsandwheels multi-both lead and win at a but better than 5/2.

R8 No4 Feeling Aces. Had something on this the longer prices as I feel he just might bounce to the front-probably.sits on something and gives it a real scare up the straight.

Not a serious $ punter at GP

But just for an interest i had a small place bet in the 1st race on Master Leighton @ the $10

That horse is racing well - so it has a flukers hope for a place in that race - especially if they go hard early

Trainer on radio during the week saying they were really happy ith the horse and expected it to keep on improving having only had it for one campaing.

Another top class drive by Deni Roberts their - in a very competitive free for all - plenty of initiative too - circling them to go to the breeze - because Vampiro is allways suspect in the straight - thus the breeze is a pretty good spot to be

I said about 8-10 weeks ago that she is the best female driver in WA - and she is by about the length of the Randwick straight - tonight she drove that horse tough - where as her win on Patronous Star about 6 starts ago - was tactically brilliant as well - drove the horse ice cold and had no interest at all in being in the running line - till the 350 metre mark - so she saved every ounce of energy with that horse

And i particularly like - she is not in awe of anyone - when she recently went to Leeton - Ladys Ivitational race - she got a pick up drive before that race ( about a $12 pop ) now alot would have said - look im a guest here - i will just go quietly - too hell with that - she came out humming - i want the blooody lead and im getting it ( which she nearly did ) - i want to win this race - that competitive spirit she has got - will win her alot of races

I think Magnificent Storm will come out with all guns ablazin to cross Lavra Joe....and it's death or glory. Can't see him winning if he can't lead & dictate...too many good horses to keep fending them off from the running line.

Change of lifestyle mate. Going into a totally different industry. 10 years at Bonds and a great stint for both.

Just an observation re Vampiro - who flew the gate and led on its ear - you can clearly see at the start and all through the race - its got a very high stepping pacing action

Thus i reckon when its back at its stable - out in the paddock - without the hopples on - then there is a fair chance that it would Trot

Thus if it does - maybe they consider doing what Geoffrey Webster did - with one of his top line pacers ( who at the time was like Vampiro is now - on its mark ) - he converted it to a trotter - i forget the name of it - and i think it might have won the same/name race as a pacer and then trotter -Aust Pacing Championship - and the Aust Trotters Championship

Webster was of course and still is a master horseman

As normal - if you put up a bit of content on this forum - a few just just sweat on it and then rubbsh it instantly

So i looked up Geoff Websters horse it was Mister Zion - a few quotes re its career

Mister Zion who used to race as a pacer - defeated the Lance Justice trained champion Smoken Up in the Group 1 SA Cup in 2010

But since that famed victory trainer Geoff Webster has changed Mister Zions gait and the son of Red River Hanover has enjoyed enormous success in the trotting ranks

Mister Zion completed a rare double - Group 1 wins as a pacer and a trotter

One for Marko and it could be wrong as I'm just going of names of mares and breeders but I think 7 of the 10 winners Friday were WA bred including the Fremantle Cup winner.

Considering the numbers we have to import purely to make up for the shortfall in local breeds just to meet the field size demands I think that's pretty good punching.

Our breed here is getting better thanks to the likes of Kody Charles but NZ is still far better

I understand you import to win races that's a given, dont think there would be many going "im going to import a horse to make sure fields hold up so rocket can win some more races".

BUT if people weren't importing from be it other states or NZ you'd be lucky to run half the races because there simply aren't the number of horses bred to make up the field sizes regardless of talent levels.

Just trying to point out at a high level the WA bred horses can compete. Be Interesting to see how the WA yearling sales av prices/clearances/horses over a certain price point have tracked over the last 15yrs.

There are still plenty of picking however if you can import the right horses.

It is of course a breeders right to put their own sire to 50+ mares (see Follow The Stars) to try and get them off the ground but doesn't do a lot for the quality of local stocks other than skew that stats regarding sires output.

That's been the breeders 1st Commandment since the dawn of time Gilga ....worldwide & in both horse codes. It's largely but not exclusively a numbers game.

You can see from the latter posts in this thread - the ones who have some sort of education - the ones who perhaps studied micro and macro economics at school and perhaps university

And you can see the ones who would not have a clue what those subjects were - or the importance of those in an industry - and post accordingly

The numbers tell a big part of the story.....but people believe what they want to believe for their own reasons....the only certainty is the well patronized stallions are making most of the foundation money in the industry....regardless of whether their success upon examination is in fact a genetic bona fide..

I read last week somewhere - in NSW - they are having a big gala dinner for Beeders and Owners of Aust bred horses - 100s are going - discussing their vision for the industry etc

If they held that event in WA - there would be - 3 and a dog in attendance
