R1- METALLON looks a horse who will be winning a few races this campaign. Looked good winning on debut last prep before taking on Spin The Knife in Saturday 3yo grade when third. Trialled up nicely for his return and didn’t disappoint winning stylishly over fellow promising 3yo Harmika. They streeted third and did it in good time. Looked open to improvement off the first up run and draws a gate to sit close again.
R2- KEYTRADE is an interesting runner coming straight from a maiden into this but he was dominant in that maiden. He trialled up really well before his first run for Anne King and hit the line nicely when finishing midfield at his first two this prep. Last start the blinkers went on, he put himself in a spot and put away a handy maiden field that has already produced two winners. He’ll need a good ride from barrier ten here but looks a horse that can really measure up in this grade.
R3- GINGER BAKER is bursting to win a race this prep. Had been building towards a win and once he looked ready he started doing little things wrong and finding bad luck. Three back he hit the line hard into third behind Cheval De Vaga and Bruce Almighty on a leaders dominated program and at both of his last two has been slow out and found traffic in the straight but has still been okay. Meets a smaller field here from an outside gate and gets a senior rider back on. That’s enough ticks to give him one more chance.
R4- OUR BOY DYLAN was solid first up. Is known for his first up form but this prep it was without a trial and found himself two pairs back trying to run down Miss Frost from behind her. Got home into third in a way that suggested he might be ready for 1200 having only won over the short course. Draws a gate to kick through and lead or take the trail if something wants to take him on. Carries a career low weight and has always looked a horse with ability.
R5- RATHMINE LADY may not have the class to topple AMELIA’S JEWEL but at very least is a fantastic place bet. Sat back in a 1000m trial and hit the line hard into fourth before debuting over the same trip which looks too short for her. Found herself last in a moderately run race but travelled into the turn despite the leader’s accelerating at that point and was a super effort to grab them late. From barrier one here she likely finds herself three back fence but in a big field that looks close enough and will just need a little luck in the straight. Getting to 1100 looks a big plus.
R6- SNOWDOME resumes having run back to back seconds at his first two starts last prep. Didn’t get a lot of room on debut from leaders back when beaten by three time winner Revitup and took luck out of the equation by leading at start number two. Rolled along in that race and was only grabbed late by a handy one in Street Parade with a gap back to third in, what has been on times, the best 2yo performance this season. Has trialled twice in preparation for this and both were good and gets blinkers on. Can put himself in a prominent spot and that is gold in big 2yo fields.
R7- DAZZLING DANE proved last start that she is up to this grade of racing. Was coming off back to back wins in maiden and class one grade straight to a Saturday 60+. Found herself last in a strung out field behind a freewheeling Cristal Dane and was super to run on into fifth beaten only 4.5L around horses like Secret Deploy, Cobbanco and Guard The Safe. Draws a gate she can work with here and not have to be last. From there she can dangerous as a horse on her way up.
R8- Best Bet: SON OF A GOD looks ready now third up. Never got into the race first after finding himself last in cracking run race where they broke the track record but beat a few of the stragglers home. Second up last start found himself wide and midfield before coming even wider to make a move into the turn. Kept coming to run fifth beating home all the horses who reoppose him here. Most importantly he finds a race he can take up a forward spot in similar to his narrow second in last years Carbine Club. If he can reproduce that performance he’ll go very close.
R9- PALE RIDER is super well placed as a 3yo over 1800. Gets 3kg weight relief on a Saturday over the extended trips and so gets in near the minimum in a 60+ race as a Fairetha Stakes place getter. That was the start after a dominant maiden win in a prep that ended with a second place finish with 60.5kg over 2000m which is a serious effort as a 3yo taking on the older horses. Went super first up last start over 1400 to trying and take ground off Catalpa who went slow in the breeze. 1800m second up looks perfect for him as does three deep cover which is the kind of run he looks like getting from nine in a big field.
