Wonder what Kings bonus will be.
Feel for Carlton supporters but am looking forward to the circus of Ross The Boss.
Fair to say he has some scores to settle.
What’s the bet Rd1/2 2022 RTB Vs Freo at Optus.
    Right up his alley.

I don’t know I’m getting the feeling it might be Brad Scott

How would you feel being a Carlton player. Doing your exit interviews Monday and Tues with a coach everyone knew wasn’t going to be there anymore.

I know if that was my work place I’d feel like it was a complete waste of time and that as a collective the players AKA the ground level staff are not well thought off and would be looking for a door out ASAP

Yeah - Hassa Mann - that was a good and enjoyable watch - i wonder how many years ago that video on him was compiled

You could see how he moved - looked a decen kick - that he would have been at gun in his heyday at the Demons

Only one dissappointing thing about that video - and i know back in the day - and  it was accepted by supporters of all clubs at the time  to hit - take out a key opposition  to enhance your chances of winning - its just shocking - and you say - what is the sense of winning - if you have to resort to do  that to win - my view is - then its pointless winning - who cares . And thank goodness that thuggery is out of the game know

I know everyone here hates Rugby league - and im no fan fan of it - but in 1988 ( living over their )Balmain  struggling big time - mid year they recruited Ellery Hanley - champion English player - known as The Black Pearl . They win their final 6 games - to finish 5th ( percentage wasnt brought into it ) so 5th and 6th believe it or not had a playoff for 5th spot on the Tuesday night - which Balmain won - Then the follwing Sat they win the elim final - then they win the 1st semi - then they won the prelim final - all on the back of that champion English play maker

In the GF they had basically the whole state barracking for them ( because of the tremendous effort to qualify ) except for the Canterbury/Bankstown  supporters

20 minutes  into the GF ( and an electrifying start ) he got horrendously king hit behind the play - ( by the Canterbury captain T Lamb - who has since said he would get  10 weeks susp today - more like 2 years ) and that was the end of Balmains chances

The point is - if you do that stuff - then who cares if you win - it counts for nothing

Old coaches worked on the theory-- My way or the highway-& whatever it takes to win..Went to the inters Qld in 93. W.A. horse Jack  Morris won. By chance finished up at Anzac Day football match.
Geelong won by a point Ablett snr kicked 8 -- Buckley  Voss played for B.B. both sides had alot big names  etc.brilliant game

Just before the first bounce couldn't believe little Gastev. poking Ablett in the chest with a fair bit of  grunt our group was laughing saying he has to be on steroids or  has a death wish.-- Sure enough was second quarter Ablett ran a extra twenty metres to take Gastev out in passage of play a legit bump  he was a stretcher job.----.Ablett also ran straight through another B.B.player in 3rd quarter.

Since read Gastev career was ended when he suffered a major hit at the hands of Gary Ablett in 1994 at Kardinia. Park. either he carried concussion for 12 months, or was he  very Yarracoola. to take Ablett  on again he was only 75-80kgs wringing wet.

Looking at the pictures of those Swans players that Old Hendo put up

Im trying to think of that  CHF or key forward ( he is not in the pictures ) - i thought  he was going to be an absolute superstar - but he didnt end up playing AFL /VFL

I can picture him - but i cant think of who it is

Did Swan Districts have a Hutton - not the John Hutton who was the early boom( more like bust - hah )  draft pick for the Brisbane Bears ( and maybe later went to the Syd/Swans ) and i think wore a helmet

Was there a Hutton at Swan Districts who played key forward

In all these posts you’ve forgotten the bloke who kicked the best goal I’ve ever seen in one of the GFs from the left forward pocket boundary Perth end.
Kid you not I was sitting 5 Myra from the kick,
Clue his hands never touched the ball.

Hutton joined up with the Eagles when John Todd was there but didnt go too flash and went back to the Swannies and i think he was in the 1990 GF.

Oh dear, can we scramble a team of counselors to Det's quick and lively? Max Gawn named as the ruckman in the All Australian charade.....I say charade because the concept should be thrown in the bin....fancy a gun like Jack Crisp not making even the initial squad of 40......worthless column filling nonsense.

Talking about taking blokes out. Who could forget Graham Yates run of the half back line to take Dermot out first bounce of the GF. Tough flicker Dermot played out the game with a couple broken ribs . It was a iconic picture dermy double over spewing

Biggest joke for mine - ever re All Aust  was the year they named Lance Franklin All Aust  Captain ahead of Shannon Hurn

Franklin is a champion and all the rest of it - but Hurn had a great year with W/Coast ( might have been the year they won the flag) and was selected in the All Aust team - and was the most obvious choice to be capt - and it woulfd have been a highlight in his career if he was

And i cant even grasp how a panel could even think of Franklin to be Capt - because he has never had that role at Haw or the Swans - but just a bizarre selection for mine -

Reckon it was Mark Yeates who came off the back of the square and cleaned up Dermie....Hawks fans hated it, the rest of Australia quietly cheering.

    Absolute disgraceful decision.
If Nic was playing at Melbourne and Max Gawn was also in the team I know who would be taking the first centre bounce at the start of the first, second, third and fourth qtrs.
And I know who would doing the rucking at the end of each quarter when you don’t want the opposition getting a free run at it.
Selectors obviously going for the romance….like the Franklin and Hurn debacle.

Selectors may have been influenced by stats. Both Natanui and Gawn played 22 games.
Time on Ground: Natanui 68% v Gawn 90%
    Averages per game:
    Hit Outs: Natanui 31 v Gawn 32
    Tackles: Natanui 3 v Gawn 2.6
    Spoils: Natanui 2 v Gawn 3.1
    Clearances :Natanui 7 v Gawn 4.5
    Marks: Natanui 1.5 v Gawn 5.2
    Disposals: Natanui 15 v Gawn 18
    Kicks: Natanui 7 v Gawn 12.4
Goals: For season Natanui 3 v Gawn 11

He certainly did play in our 1990 Premiership side OH, he even wore Brad Shine's number 2 jumper as a mark of respect as Bulldog tried everything he could to get up for the game but his knee was shot and forced his retirement.
"Hunky" Hutton footy career was ended prematurely by concussion issues at only 27/28yo, he like his namesake John Hutton was forced into wearing a helmet late in his career because of it.
His 1984 season when he won the Bernie Naylor Medal (WAFL's Leading Goalkicker) with 84 goals including 5 in the 1984 GF was a highlights package with plenty of high flying screamers and big bags of goals.
When the late great Garry Sidebottom returned to SD in 1985 it forced a change in position for Hunky as he was only just over 6ft and he played a bit more in defence as well.
And Marko Brent Hutton did play in the vfl/afl, he played (13 games, 9 goals) for WCE under Toddy in 1988/89.

Re - Ross Lyon and he did do a good job at both StK - and Frem - but re will he get the Carlton - some say hes been ruled out - where as others say he is the hot fave

However it would be interesting what professional advice he would have been given - ( and he would have been given it ) re answering that staged question from Caro Wilson - re the incident in Perth

How he has answered it to me is a 4 minute train wreck - would have been much better just honestly saying - look ive had 30 years as a player and coach - ive only  had the  one incident - wasnt proud and happy with my behaviour that night - it has been confidentially settled  and i can assure you it was a one off and will never occur again

Instead its just 4 minutes of awkward nothing which might have ruled him out of the job
  • freodockersfreodockers    2,667 posts
If he doesn’t get the job well it will be the end of his coaching career because he will always be tarred with the scandal brush.
If he doesn’t get the job one could argue “why is he allowed to fulfil his current role in the media with it hanging over his head ??
To me I think he is a very good coach but Freo had no choice but to sack him as a result of the media personally attacking him over here.
However this is the third time he has undermined an existing coach, that I don’t like.

Stats are meaningless unless they have meaning.
I know what I see every week with Nic.
Last week against Brisbane he looked dominant and carried his team.
    Disposals….24….21 contested
    10 score involvements.
Max Gawn is a good ruckman.
    Nic is a great ruckman.
