    Yilgarna, if it was, I didn't go there. I have seen the track around the Kunno oval ...it was still there back in about 1980 when I was playing footy up at Nungarin.  I can tell you that Goomalling was still operating on July 27th 1959....I have the race book. Good old horse Whitedale won that day for trainer driver Jack Jones....owned by Graham Tindale's Dad. I was 7 years old. I think I remember it because all the kids were fitted out with new school sandals the next week. I am with you on Trayning, loved going there with a scrubber or two, trying to decipher ledgendary course commentator A.W. (Tony) Van Blitterswyk's race calls. Ray Williams Dad, old R.L. (Les) Williams, was King of the Non Tabs at Trayning and Wylie in those days.

    Went to the Cannington greyhounds years ago when it was a grass track

    Re - NSW - went to Canterbury  gallops - the day Johnny Miller won the Canterbury Guineas on about a 90-1 pop - Rod Kemp rode in that same race - his mount finished about 3rd or 4th - but his mount was in the market - also went to Hawkesbury gallops

    Re - NSW Trots - Fairfield and Bankstown they used to alternate on a Monday night - also went to Bulli Trots and Richmond Trots - which was also a grass track

    Often went to the Harold Park Dogs - they were held on a Sat night ( with a very strong interstate Trots ring - one of the Waterhouses used to field  their ). For 2-3 years Wentworth Park was a White Elephant and shut - the Dogs mob had a dispute - and said  no we will race at Harold Park - there was a greyhound track inside the trotting track - it was a ripper - huge long home straight - favourite greyhound back then was a dog named Toms Two - it used to come with a rattling run out wide - hah

    In your previous post - you listed Granville Trotting track - tell us a bit about that - it would be a hell of along time ago they raced their

    Wyong or Rich trots - one of those 2 i think raced the Syd gallops way of going - cant remember which one

    One other thing i can remember from the HP Dogs - was that the no 7 dog used to carry a brown rug not black

    Hi Markovina, Richmond and Hawksbury raced the Sydney way and Richmond was grass, not sure about Wyong. Granville showground was a speed way site and they stopped late 60s. . They moved to Parra showgrounds till early 70. The Westmead Hospital now stand there.. I think.. Long time ago for me... Roseland Count I think won the Carousel at Granville.. Some body with a better memory would know more....

    Fantastic Curmudgeon... what was the best track, or most memorable, to drive at?

    It was a long time ago but I enjoyed the triangular old Pinjarra track....watching Redcliffe now reminds me of it. The lighting was very ordinary though.
    The most memorable was driving at Leonora when the GMTC held a couple of meetings on the Gallops track. I drew the outside of the front in the first race and about 100m before release point it became obvious that the track narrowed and there was no room for my horse except in the ditch on the outside of the track....so I rehandicapped myself off the second line with 50m to go in the score up
    :)) Great fun though....the GMTC was very vibrant at the time

    I have only been to 12 but I swear I've been to Rosehill that many times you could blindfold me and I'd find my way around. May have to feel my way around on Girls' Day Out tho. Heck I even knew the bus driver(that drove the shuttle bus to Strathfield station) by name. It always made me wonder what possessed his parents to name him 'mate'   8-}

    Big pity was no racing at Chantilly when I was in France. I haven't been to Ireland but a couple of those Irish tracks also look very scenic. The most scenic backdrop for me was Hexham in England and it was also my coldest day at the races.

    I have probably forgotten a few along the way but here goes;

    AUS: Ascot, Belmont, Northam, Toodyay, Beverley (ceased), York, Narrogin, Pinjarra, Bunbury, Kalgoorlie, Randwick, Rosehill, Canberra, Queanbeyan, Flemington, Caulfield, Sandown, Moonee Valley, Mornington

    USA;  Santa Anita, Hollywood (ceased), Portland, Golden Gate, Turf Paradise, Churchill Downs, Belmont

    UK:  Aintree, Wolverhampton, Nottingham, Newcastle, Warwick, Folkestone (ceased), Hexham, Ayr, Hamilton, Musselburgh, Lanark (ceased)

    Non Official: Snag Island Salt Lake Races @ Leeman

    How was it at the US tracks ?
    I imagine them being quite seedy - especially the west coast and east coast venues.
    Maybe a bit more upmarket in the likes of Kentucky.

    I appreciate your interest Tivers.

    Kentucky was probably one of the worst. (Portland the worst). Churchill Downs was very old and rundown. It did have a good Kentucky Derby museum. I was not there for the Derby unfortunately but just a normal day.. Santa Anita is a nice track with a brilliant backdrop. Turf and Golden Gate are fine and also decent backdrops but dated. Portland was by far the seediest and it is is a bit dirty and extremely dated. Personalised seats at all venues (bar Portland) in the stand that are no longer used. Attendance was pitiful at all tracks except Santa Anita. Mexicans appeared to outnumber other nationalities at all tracks.

    You can imagine these tracks being packed in the past with great history of types and indeed I spoke to some old timers including two tote operators who have been at their respective tracks since the golden days and the stories they told were priceless. The bloke from Portland I could have hired on a speaking tour of Oz on USA racing. He was extremely informative and humorous and  very interested in Australian racing.

    Just a few of my racebook souvenirs above.

    Turf Paradise is the only track I have ever attended that had no racebook but just an A4 page of info.

    Belmont, Ascot, Pinjarra, Bunbury, Northam, Kalgoorlie in W.A.
    Overseas Royal Ascot U.K and Aqueduct in New York. Royal Ascot was Frankel's final race. Missed the first 2x races of the day as there were roadworks going to the track, missed the next 2 after that as we were held back upon entry so the Queen and Phil could drive past
