My money this week is Jack Riewoldt doing a 4 week hammy and Trent doing a groin.  B-)

How long will it be before a player trots out the " Mental health issues" for not going into a hub.
  • detonatordetonator    4,397 posts

I reckon after Melbourne beat a non committed, non hungry Richmond this week(effectively giving Richmond the excuse that their season is done and dusted) the " hub mental card" could be played.

Haven`t heard the phrase "tanking" just yet but the congestion down the bottom of the ladder could be intense. Teams will have outs galore in terms of their lack of performance justification ie Covid, Hubs etc. Especially when you have banked two flags in the last 3 years and are looking to inject some quality youth into your team.....WATCH THIS SPACE.

I can tell you players wont’t be tanking, clubs might put the queue in the rack but players won’t.

Culled list sizes, reduced contracts in length and $$ means outside the top 20% of players, the rest are playing for their livelihoods.
  • detonatordetonator    4,397 posts

If the "financially secure" top 20% in a club have put the cue back in the rack can`t see how the other 80% will get their team across the line.

Take Richmond for example Martin, Lynch, Reiwoldt, Cotchin, Grimes. This is a gap year for them. Especially with the Hub prospect facing them. The rest will be playing for self preservation. And we know how that ends up.

You can tank without tanking if that makes sense.

Richmond will send their VFL team over. (effectively).
The year is a write off, both from that team view and the AFL overall - so will save the legs of their main players and set themselves for 2021.

Nothing to achieve this year other than maybe claim the Mickey Mouse Cup, sponsored by Asterix *

That’s my point Det, clubs will do what they need to but the ones on the park will play.

Season is a rabble, it’s about protecting your best whilst keeping the sponsors happy and engaged at the same time

Mick Malthouse - i normally enjoy listening to him - however only when he is talking football

I listen to that ABC Radio program  - 10am each  Saturday morning and its normally enjoyable - talkback - plus the assistant coaches of both the WA sides on etc

3-4 weeks ago i was listening to it ( interesting if anyone else here heard it ) and Mick and Duffield  totally hijacked the show for 15 minutes - and it became politics ( so much so - that Clint  the host  said after their 15 minute rant - thank goodness we are talking sport again !!) - youd reckon both of them had medical degrees

Malthouse was way out of line - the blast he gave the various govts - and he actually used the phrase " glory seeking premiers " - who are keeping the state borders shut . He went on further - quoting Victoria ( at that point  of time ) low daily number of new cases etc - and he said all borders should be opened immediately

If you replayed today what he said -( given what has happened to Victoria )  he  would look the biggest goose and twat of all time - and bear in mind it was a sports program - telling medical experts and govts what they should be doing- what an absolute joke- and the hide of him saying it

Noticed a lot of commentators gone quiet on the same topic this week.
Anyone know if the WA opposition leader still exists ? Fallen off the map

I see the premier's popularity has really fallen in the latest news poll,  down from 89% to 88%

A plumber from Ballarat trying to tell WA Health Experts what to do.

I love all the comments on various social media platforms calling for an end to the season. The common theme is they barrack for either West Coast , Adelaide or Richmond. West Coast so far this year would have to be the biggest pea heart performance of all time.

Looking at the premiership market it is very wide open Pies favourites at 6 to 1 but lost Howe and struggle against certain teams.
The Eagles playing insipid footy but have Swans then Crows then 7 home games in a row after that at this stage if they are 9 and 4 with 5 games to go another top 4 home run at the grand final is there for the taking 10 to 1 or up to 13.5 to 1 elsewhere.

any other player apart from a collingwood player and their president would have been up in arms . Declaring that they would have put the competition in jeaopardy etc. but being  a collingwood player oh he just had a bad night

I got your point about 18 posts ago champ, you go for your life but I don't watch it, never have, never will. Roosters and Storm may as well be fast food franchises.

You seem to complain about the AFL more than you praise it. There are alternatives, champ

I vowed not to watch Wednesday’s nights footy classified this year because of “Ross the Boss’ being a panel member. But I broke my stance to watch Eddie “spin doctor” Mcguires defence/dismissive ness of Steele Sidebottom.
It amazes me how all of his media peers tolerate him and his spin particularly as he is severely compromised being president of the biggest footy club in Oz.
And not to mention his King Kong blooper. OMG.
Eddie actually believes that he can spin any b******t to his audience and they will swallow every word.
The guy has more hide than a rhino. McGuire/Trump.......same same.

As for AFL football shows - i watch very few - however one show ive watched the last 3 times ( and have just finished watching tonight ) is the First Crack - on Fox - basically the 1st summary of a game or a completed round

Nick Delsanto and David King and some woman host - and they dont  sugar coat anything - like McGovern for Carlton tonight - he was hopeless - and he was - one possession to half time -

Nice concise summary - also have a bit of each coaches press conference - also any news in the AFL -quite an entertaining show actually . Not the normal vomit matey - Dunstall and McGuire and all those other tired hacks whichh i dont watch

I like watching David King. He is a football analyst. Delsanto is a bit of a lightweight for mine.
To me On the Couch is the best footy programme.
Maybe I am biased because like myself, Gerard Healy also has a man crush on “The big black panther”
    :x

Mark McGowan who has done a sterling job re this pandemic - deep down i reckon he would love to kick out - or to use his word - punt a  high profile Victorian player or coach for breaking protocol ( when they come over here  to form the hub )

Their might be a photo opportunity ( lets hope there is ) something along the lines of when the late Joe Cockker  got deported from Australia in the late 1960s . Theres that classic iconic photo - where 2 coppers  - theve got Cockkers arm twisted behind  his back and they literally frogmarched him out  onto the tarmac - to the plane to deport  him .

Oh please make this happen Mark .
