The Ascot Preview for 7/3/20 by TMP (still)

West Australian Racing
They reckon on the radio that a dog in Hong Kong had Corona virus. What if the horses catch it? They will need strong tissues if a horse sneezes!

R/1 This is potentially the best race of the day; proboly only the top 3 but you could make a case for Eurasia over the 1400m.
Long Beach ran amazing time including last 600m sectional in beating the older horses 2 weeks ago; admittedly the second one did weaken a little late..
Tommy Blue won well last time but did need stoking up on the turn; ran 34.07 for last 600m.
Talladega beat a weaker lot at his latest but ran home his last 600m in in 34.32 but on a soft track; look at the dam and the sire; this just makes me tumble in.

R/2 I settled on 3 and 7 here.
Rapisarda has won like a champ in the past; lightly raced; needs to come from the back; rider in form.
Bruce Almighty was v impressive in the manner and the time ran in his maiden win.

R/3 I'd be on Martarello; partly because of the riding change.

R/4 I've been back and forward a few times over this one.
Harry Thomas has been up a long long time; but is racing v v consistantly.
You easily can make a case for Lord Help Me Run and also the stablemate My Greek Boy.
I'll be on Harry!

R/5The forgotten one here is No 4; again rider in form.

R/6 They will burn in this I believe due to Nos. 2 and 8.
The topweight is from a stable that usually do not win first up and he seems to be looking for further as the trainer said in a recent interview.
I'm looking at horses 3 and 9 here.
Excelestial will have the fast pace to allow him to settle I believe.
Comes a Time is the horse being kept safe in the market ;he is definitely working up to a win.

R/7 Pyms Royale on his day is just great; so he has to go in.
The fave Red Can Man is a v good young horse; can be in and out too!
Horse 3 is no dag; but he is! (Fred Dag). He has been ultra consistant and cannot be left out.

R/8 Horses 1, 2, 4 , 5, 6 and 7 go in here. Who will have the luck tomorrow for this even lot?
I just think that you need luck to be in the right possie and no checks.

R/9 The 2 faves speak for themselves; the Lipstick horse and Special Choice.
If the former does like the 1400m and the latter has a 2nd up syndrome, Nos. 1, 6, 10 and even 13 are in it.
I was not dreamin when I gave 13 a chance.

Have you heard about the new diet for Corona virus sufferers? It's the Pancake Diet.
That's the only thing you can fit under the door!

All the Best and Good Luck.
+1 -1

Good one Piker, and fortunately most trainers will know if coronavirus or any virus is troubling any of the runners at Ascot tomorrow - advice from vets is that the symtoms will be that the GG is feeling a little bit hoarse 3:-O

    My donations for tomorrow.
Race 4: Make no mistake he"ll be back in fine form - Lord Help Me Run, also same race backing the stablemate My Greek Boy. Keen on those two.

I'm having a nibble on Plead the Fifth in Race 8 (16's into 14's) & Smarty in the last.

I think Starfield Impact wins the LR.

Race 7: Interesting one first up Red Can Man - quite like three of them to cause the minor upset - Pyms Royale, Speeding Comet and Fred Dag.

Taking decent quinellas Red Can Man, Pyms Royale, Speeding Comet and Fred Dag always and then extra Red Can Man anchored with those three.

Race 8: Noticed a horse in this race getting out to $2.62 a place with one of the Corporate's - will monitor that, reckon anything over $2.50 a place is not too bad - Here Comes Lenni - the drum.

I’m hoping it can win riders! Can’t get rich off place betting :P

Hahaha yep very conservative these days. Even quinellas!

Quite keen on Speeding Comet a place too, but with Red Can Man, Pyms Royale and Fred Dag there bit worried about that..the three first uppers could run 1,2,3, so will stick to the poor mans quinella bet on that race.

Been saying it for awhile though - what's the simplest bet ? Answer - place betting.

Not many at all are interested in the old place bet anymore - yet it's a bet that many begin with.

Dividends on the place - tote wise are pretty average. ( Except for those pay 1,2 races! )

It's one thing Tabcorp should revive - get the big place punters back ( their use to be plenty )....the way you get them back - drop the takeout commission rate on place betting - go as low as 5%.

A drop to 5% it's also a drop in the ocean for Tabcorp - they'll be pleasantly surprised how that would go. Win for Tabcorp - Win for the punter - sometimes it's just that easy - and that's why it won't be done!

The beginners who start off their punting career with place betting - keep them involved - give them a better dividend and you may keep them along time - that's a good business sense.

    Quaddie today for me - 1.4.9...2.4.5.9...2.4.6.8.12.14...1.3.4.7.9.12 ... $40 for just under 10%

Little one for the MR jackpot - 1.4...4.8.9...2.4.6.8...2.4.12 $8 for 11%

Couple of Multis - Plead the Fifth into Smarty @ 280/1
Bruce Almighty - Starfield Impact - Speeding Comet - Plead the Fifth @ 4400/1
    Those 4 + Smarty - all up place @ 215/1

Gee perth racing shake  my head long beach cant get past a horse coming off a midweek win that do me never again your racing is rubbish.

WITP; I thought Talladega had a great chance and tipped it; the time on a soft track midweek was v v good; the breeding is great plus of course the trainer and rider.

Long beach runs in 109s which u never see and was best last 200 of day thinking the step up to 1400m should have been even better.Has drop on them peel out did no work and cant run over a midweek horse.Like i said  i rather best were i think i can get a go that should have walked in another horse that loses a leg.

Having a go each way on Distant Trilogy in the last.

He's raced wide/blocked for runs in all races this prep and he's capable of winning in this grade.

If they put a bit of speed on up front he could run over the top into the money.

Talladega was a good bet. Made a heap of ground in the win midweek against a complete and utter jet stream leaders bias. When it lobbed in front, i walked straight to the collect line.

Three down one to go bomber! At least you can square off if needed.

Recall not doing that many years ago - last race Sandown had the first seven fave's in the betting for good quaddie result - 8th fave goes bang! ( Of course ).

Lord Help Me Run - grinding battling third, winner well rated by Jarrad Noske never going to lose.
Thought My Greek Boy had come back ok - nope.

Red Can, Pym and Fred very good. All first up too. Miles better than the rest.

In the opening four horse race - the third and fourth fave's ran 1, 2 and the the first and second fave ran 3, 4.

An even four just the same and the first four and trifecta on that race both paid very well considering just four in it.

Long Beach.....Fast run 1200m with 54kg vs a slow run 1400m with 59kg. Obviously prefers the pace on.

Went a bit early with Lenni @hash and did struggle late, he's just another distance plugger but still might pinch one of these races.

The trifecta of over 20k - have seen alot better dividends/odds and the trifecta pay much less. Anybody who got a % of that would've been rapt.

Had a look at the Esperance Cup replay of Inject The Venom during the week - wasn't an eye catcher but wasn't the worst run you'd ever see either. Four starts ago ran fourth to Spiritual Warrior in the Kalgoorlie Cup - hard one to catch though.
