On Saturday everyone waxing lyrical about how good the track is playing, it was getting borderline sickening listening to it tbh. Nek minute todays meeting is goneski. yeah great winter track. I know the notice from RWWA is referencing poor weather this arvo but im not buying it. track no good.

another $141,500 that the industry participants wont get to see...Probably just building a kitty to give to their old mate Yovich for his grandstand fund

Too much racing is the problem during winter at the same track. If you keep bashing your head against the wall you end up with a headache. Chris Nation is a star, and my feeling is he is keeping this place going with his expertise. On another level lets get back the old curator and see what the track would play like then, you would have lost the bloody track by now

Spot on pshyco...i wasn't knocking Chris, he can only work with what he's got....this track stopped being a good winter track about a decade ago!!

Might be about saving the surface integrity for Saturday, Better losing the midweek than the Sat

Think you'll find is more to do with the conditions than the track / surface.
  • spinkingspinking    3,997 posts
As in not safe to race due to the weather conditions not the racing surface
  • TiversTivers    7,720 posts
Correct - very blustery winds and (extremely) flighty horses etc

im 850m away from Belmont track as the crow flies. Weather not too bad at this point.

Yeah, I was going to say the same a little while ago.
Then minutes later a tree flew past my window.
    Decent again now though...........sunny even.

My horse misses his run today and the meeting not moved to another day. Based on the weather forecast according to this video.less than 3mm rain in Perth after decision on Twitter. Who less competent weatherman or idiot officials at Perth racing who listen to them!why do we bother to own horses here

Sorry to hear that SI, i get pretty damn excited when one of mine goes around and to have it not happen, well, its a huge let down. As i said in my first post above, it wasnt the weather. In my opinion its the track, but they were using the weather as the excuse. The weather today wasnt that bad at all and i work very close to BP so whatever weather i was getting they were too. And it barely rained and wind wasnt that bad either. We prob race in stronger winds in summer

Ok mate. I work in city and it was windy but pretty much no rain. When I saw video from track manager saying track in "sensational condition" Thought it bizarre decision not to race just because might rain later

I thought incompetent staff the problem. Worse to learn no transparency from Perth racing and instead lieing to owners about track being no good. Where is accountability on this?

Wind wasn't that bad either, glad you don't do the boating forecast Para lol

conflicting stories here. On one hand Chris Nation saying track perfect , and on the other Ernie Manning saying in todays West rain left track unsafe. Cmon  explain which one was it

He was on racing radio this morning and the explaination was clear as mud. Saying if they got 5ml in the arvo they would be called off and everyone will have to turn around and go home then they were blaming on the wind and storm. I dont understand it

I cant say i blame them. The forecast was horrific. I think it was a fair call to say, based on the forecast, we're getting this much rain.. therefore, rather than call it off mid-meeting... lets call it early.
wouldnt have been a pleasant afternoon out there for anyone.

My only criticism... maybe they could have added a few races to Saturday or opened up a few nominations because the saturday meeting is very skinny on numbers.

Having said that, Saturday might be in jeopardy too with the rain that is still around.

Id see your point if weather forecasting is an exact science but we know it's not. So we need to monitor nominations around weather forecasts as everytimr forecast bad in winter races will be off just in case.better off racing horses in melb if that the situation in wA now

it did sound like Saturday is in jeopardy if the track gets what they are saying it will get.

I think you will find the track is ok and Chris Nation has done a great job with the amount of water this track has taken.
It think it was a call by RWWA due to unsafe conditions (There was no sun)
    :)) :))

Forecast for wet and cold weather on Sat. Going on yesterday's decision might as well call it off now.

Rwwa runs tab and still calls meetings off just in case it rains. No wonder being sold

Surely the  problem wasn't the rain or track but the high winds associated with the approaching front

IN todays West if the rain comes overnight and through Saturday morning , Saturdays meeting in trouble
  • TheDivaTheDiva    13,248 posts
    up to 20mm due today..
    another 8-10mm tomorrow..
we might all be having the weekend off!
on the bright side, that will save the industry $440k in stakes... maybe they can add it to Wednesday's $140k and start a fund for the PR grandstand.

So in reality the less race meetings Perth Racing has, the better their financial position is...hahahaha
