Follower ;;;;great to hear his   still  going  well, for historys sake I would believe as a trainer that has been involved in  both codes that in the state of western Australian  no-one would have produced a winner at as many tracks  as   v.j.cockell       (any idea how many tracks).-----so it was early call not early right, and how many did they win in the two nights ? around forty years ago my guess, will do
    little research.as well

funnily enough we were only talking about it the other day . he said once he won 6 races with one horse in a week in kalgoorlie 2 on the saturday 2 on the wednesay and another 2 on the next saturday i think it was little rock and then sold the horse to america . he used to always start them twice on the one night over the round . he has found memories of kalgoorlie and we were chatting away while on the way to norseman . i did receive all of dads winners list not long ago but its not complete . i can soundly say though he has won a race at every track in wa in both codes . over a long life thats a pretty great achievement i think .

Think Willy Pike's first ever winner was for Mr. Jack Cockell at Norseman possibly around 2002 or thereabouts ? Something both to be proud of.

Remember Jack used to stay at Stan Mc Cahons  place on Maxwell St in Kalgoorlie when he bought his trotters up many moons ago.

I cant remember if Jack did much driving in the cart but I can recall him driving a pretty smart pacer called Our Pow Wow in a heat of the (Benson & Hedges) WA Pacing Cup in 1985 for trainer Bill Horn at GP as his regular driver Haydon Fisher was suspended.

dad only turned to pacers as a result of race fall .the doctor said if he tried to drive again he would die from internal bleeding . his father being Jim (jd) cockell always had smart pacers and gallopers also .  he was a smart driver but not the best around at the time but often got on them . he was full of courage and still is . i love hearing old stories it makes my day complete and myself having a few pacers again now i can see the sparkle in his eye . he has a great liking for pacers . ill try to post some photos . bill horn and dad still have a great friendship . being proud of him is something ill have forever he is a champion in my eyes :)

Emilly Suvaljko getting a winner today, was it her first. Wonder what her weight would be? Surely pulling a feather around i the sulky has to be an advantage in the run to the line.

Interestingly her the newest jnr along with AC Lewis the senior statesman combined to well and truely cook a race last night. Shows it can happen to them all!

I agree with you re the weight angle - the lighter the better

Look at Mister Rollins  at Wagin  ( i actually watched a replay of its previous start in hot company at Albany where it ran 5th ) - but piked out and only put it in trifectas . M Ferguson the light weight kid jumps on it ( instead of the trainer )- sits 3 wide the whole last lap without  and wins - and  pays $76 the win

Just my opinion - and i might get egg on my face ( because some of the topliners might exceed it ) but i think if you are more than 101/2 stone and driving pacers - you are wasting everybodys time

If i owned pacers - then drivers - id want the best and the lightest- 2 drivers of equal talent - i would put on the bloke who weighs the less

See jack cockell trained a treble at norseman races  on Saturday see he has trained winners at 26 different race tracks since 2001,  would say he would have trained a winner at nearly every harness track in w.a. over the journey even the ones that have closed years ago...
Remmeber  he started early right and little rock sat &. mon. night twice on each night at gmtc and he won seven or eight races, many moons ago, cutters dream,  won three nights of the round  the man must be late eighties.
early call was the mares name . he's 88 years old still going strong . incedently I'm his daughter and have a few trotters around also as well as gallopers .
Did you train willie strike more for a little while? I used to race him with shannon and may have leased him to you. My memory not what it used to be but I think I'm right.
I have followed you ever since and you do a good job with your horses.
Just a shame you got willie after Shannon was finished with him......tough gig training them after shannon

You obviously don’t follow trots too closely.. M Ferguson hasn’t been a lightweight for a good couple of years now

What is Ritchie Bell doing when sky channel cross, there is silence for several seconds?
They cross to Craig Rail and he is going though market fluctuations, changes in driving tactics etc

    Not a one off

I'm going to be teaching the people at work how to bet on harness racing this week. Does anyone know if there's a way to see last weekend's fields and form guides?

What are the key things I should be teaching novices? I'm thinking basic odds, trifecta, quinella. What the terms mean - 3 wide, facing the breeze, the bell. Showing them the state premiership for drivers/trainers. Teaching them times and distances. Anything else?

With the form guides and fields, I'll make little racebooks for them, we'll 'bet' on 3 races, watch the replay and I'll pay out to the winning gamblers (fake money of course). I'd like to use the races at Pinjarra, GP and Bunbury from last weekend if possible but Wayback Machine didn't archive those specific meeting pages

Unfortunately KTQ you can only access form guides up until the day of the meeting so that will make it difficult for you to do a meeting in arrears.

Just another reason then - why all drivers weights should be published every 6 months - but Trotting administration is so lazy and amateurish - they cant be bothered doing it

As champion trainer/driver Gordan Rothacker ( the bloke they named the annual medal after in Vic ) said over 40 years ago - when asked why he wasnt driving his top horses of the time like Gallagher and Rhett and instead opting to put on a young Brian Gath and Ted Demmler - ( both former apprentice jockeys and natural leightweights ) Rothacker simply said - because they weigh 4 stone less than me !!!!

He knew  the sigificance of weight - he wanted to give his horses the best possible chance of winning

Good to see you and your legend old man still going strong. Keep it up!!!

At Bunbury trials last night, the mobile ran out of petrol and so people in the last couldn't qualify their horses. You'd be fuming wouldn't you? #YouHadOneJob

I see Aldo has got the 1 drive at Mildura tonight - male drivers challenge race - and Kiara Davies has got a drive in the ladys challenge race

Long way to go - but most likely got flown over - courtesy of the club/sponsors etc

Mildura Cup night - on Saturday - part of their 3 meeting carnival - normally a decent race

Jay Jay has got 2 nice mares - he might have a bit of luck breeding from them - because they are both very honest

Both run terrific races at Narrogin - and both pipped on the line - and the 1st won got beaten by a miracle/flukey drive

But at present if there is a cat to be kicked at Narrogin  - Jay Jay will be  kicking it

Want financially invested in the race - but i agree - you are behind the leader and favourite - and you come off the pegs with 2 laps to go

It helped me I was on the 7 a place! Leaders back on the fav to 3 deep no cover at the bell, dropping out. They want to increase turnover, deal with things like this.

Absolute shocker. Then wanted to go three wide at the bell and run last.

Won;' see many worse drives than that.

JJ was about 4 inches away from a treble .....nice night but would have been a cracker.
S Steele .... mum always said if you etc etc
Stupid mistake from me....looking for something to upset the applecart of the 3 favourites I had a small e/w Mister Rollins at 61 & 8 fixed ......throw him in with them in the First 4....$986 ....bugger watching footy and punting !!!

    I cant complain - had a very good Friday - last at Wagga - tri 2.5times - quin 8.5 times - and $15 on the winner - 1/2 head by 1/2 head

However Mr Rollins - you wernt alone - fixed $80 the win $20 place - then another $10 a place at $10 fixed - it pelted home - pity he didnt get on Neighlors back - and he could have - because it might have troubled the winner

No cat kicking Marko, just happy they all put in.Both mares terrific in coming from last and Neighlor just got there but never gave up, plenty of improvement left. Good racing at Narrogin last night, patrons (and cats) a bit scarce but still about 10 times more than a Tuesday at GP.

4 inches from a treble or two inches from 3 seconds Curmudge? Long trek back home last night but managed a smile! Ive chosen well with the trainer, deserves owner support, works hard with limited cattle.
