    Because the interruption happened after 48 overs meaning they lost the last 2 overs which (at 5 down) would have been full on "swinging"

    It rained during the 38th over when SA were 1/215, the game at that point was then revised down to 48 overs. However, the same principle that Tony mentioned would have applied.

    WA haven't beaten SA in an one-day game since 2014.

    The second round of the Sheffield Shield has been completed. NSW defeated WA at Hurstville Oval, after WA collapsed from 0/179 to be bowled out for 223, losing by 171 runs.

    NSW 270 (Smith 76, Richardson 4/47) & 6d/300 (Smith 127, Patterson 66) beat WA 176 (Bancroft 76*, Turner 52, Starc 4/56) & 223 (S.Marsh 91, Bancroft 86).

    Wow..hope he tears up those poms this summer.Him and Cummins if they stay sound should bloody terrorize Root and co...still remember MJ a few years ago demolishing them, Cummins can do the same he is seriously quick..

    Dave Warner, Cam Bancroft WK, Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith C, Peter Handscombe, Shaun Marsh, Mitch Marsh, Mitch Starc, Pat Cummings, Josh Hazelwood, Nathan Lyon.

    This should be our side this summer if picking on this seasons form.

    Forgot about Hanscombe, would put him in as well. Be interesting to see if the Marsh brother(s) will be selected for another go.

    I have lost all interest for the Ashes.
    Paine...........spare me how on Gods earth does he get a Baggy Green.Is he really the best we have in front of Neville,Carey and to a lesser Wade!
    Surely we have some up and coming kids to have a crack!
    Marsh over Renshaw.....are you serious!I don't give a rats ass how many runs Renshaw has made this year but I will say this KID is all class!
    Jackson Bird made the squad......Christ he would have neck brace on if I was at the other end facing him!
    I give up on these selectors that live in the past!

    If I remember Paine made like two fifties or something and that's the reason why. Marsh had better form according to selectors, and Bird no idea where he came from

    And I think I read somewhere that when Paine got 70 odd this week that it had cost Tasmania outright points as they let him bat longer so he could get a baggy while he also fields in 1st slip next to Wade!!!!!!!!!!!
    Christ he doesn't even keep for his state and now the number 1 wicket keeper!
    Surely they are not serious!

    Well I guess we just have to see if he does hold his weight. I'm still hoping for Nevill or Bancroft to take the gloves in the second test though.

    An excerpt taken from the recent Tasmania v Victoria Sheffield Shield clash..

    'A certain win for Tasmania went begging as Tim Paine was allowed to bat on for the benefit of Cricket Australia selectors and the elusive win for Tassie became secondary. As Paine crept his way to 71 the Victorians were bemused to the point of humour. No doubt Paine felt awkward, wanting the best thing for the team.

    Shield Cricket is now just another pawn in the chess board of the code. The best teams aren't picked, the games are manufactured as glorified practice for test aspirants.'

    ^^ No criticism of Tim Paine...possibly should have played for Australia more often. ( A while ago ).
    However agree with the excerpt too...they are treating the Sheffield Shield with disdain.

    For Tasmania their previous three years have been ordinary and they let an almost certain win go begging.

    Its not like they are in prime position to throw a match for their mate and still end up in front (which would still be bad) but makes it even worse that they are on the bottom. Also considering he made a duck in the first innings (less then Wade on 5). Oh well, just have to hope he does his job

    Yes and could you imagine blokes like Lillee, Alderman, Valleta ,Yardley, Moody, Marsh, Angel, Matthews etc. etc. not going full bore to win against Victoria or any state!

    I'm sure those blokes got as much enjoyment and pleasure having a win over rival state teams just as much as they got from winning an international game.

    What would they think of manufactured Sheffield Shield Cricket ? Please nobody say times have changed!!

    Competing to win ( fair and square ) should never change.

    I just hope this doesn't set a precedent for other states when they trail the series to start thinking about who they can potentially put in the Australian squad for the sake of one mate. I mean Bancroft is in the side because he has performed time and time again (by scoring hundreds, doubles, triples). Not asking for Paine to be scoring huge but when your slip gets to be the Aussie keeper over the keeper for your state's team, I'd find that abit insulting as a keeper

    The moment they picked Marsh we lost the urn ,, its all good for Steve giggling Butler to bang on about him and be a typical parochial west Ozzie but his form in top level cricket doesn’t warrant a game for Christ sake he doesn’t have a CA contract lol lol lol and Tim Paine well can’t even be bothered

    Paine is the number 2 keeper for Tassie but number 1 for Aus lol loll lol
