Can the Rock Magic crew please confirm whether hes coming back to race in the Winterbottom? I think he would be a great chance and still think would have won last year if 100%

I heard/read somewhere that it will be a late decision Bomber.

I think he gets to Perth tomorrow and they’re going to see how he settles back in and how he is working before deciding.

Agree with the Solicitor to bill some serious hours for its clients. Its run in last year's race was better than Vega Magic.

this year is a different kettle of fish...some grade 1 nags coming this year...

You would think,if they have mo intention of starting in the Railway,Winterbottom/Kingston Town they would pull there horse out and that gives others an idea where they are placed in the Pecking order.

exactly what Gareth Hall was getting at this morning when speaking with Bensley on racing radio

Fair enough keeping your cards close to your chest but if owners and trainers have no intention of making the trip then speak up and say so!

it's a million dollar race for f**k sake make it easy for connections of other potential runners to know where they're at not to mention protecting the punter wanting to have a futures bet knowing they're not gonna do their money cold when a horse they've backed doesn't get on a plane over here

Malaquerra should have won last year. It then beat BHB the next start in tbe Australia Stakes, who franked the form winning the Orr & the Futurity at his next two starts. Sheidel also went on to win the Oakleigh plate last Autumn after a brave 2nd in the Winterbottom. Outside of Impending the visitors arent that strong imo. Different story in the Railway though-If SOJ isn't right im not sure the Lee Steere or Asian Beau will provode the winner this year. Maybe the Peters Stakes this weekend will throw something of note?

Must be a lot love there with D. Whyte. if SOJ was mine i reckon i would still be a little upset from last year

I watched the replay last week and im not convinced SOJ would have won now. I would have sworn otherwise last year after a dozen or more views. Douglas isnt exactly riding a hat load of winners in HK but he seems to always ride winners in Perth. It's not my horse though and I don't have to back it.

Bet you weren't on at 101 and 51

As soon as she didn't win on Saturday knew she was off to the Paddock. She needed to win well to go on beyond this week as she is not bred to stay

Yeah I thought the same, I thought she was going to go straight last them at the 250 and was getting excited......then pop!

O was on at 26s only though
  • H-BOMBERH-BOMBER    10,567 posts
And yet you can still back her at $10 for the KT...

    Disgraceful

So how are Perth Racing getting the formula so wrong on these traditional days of racing ? The crowd there yesterday was estimated to be 6-8,000 but more towards the lower number. The Member's car park was only two thirds full an hour before the feature, and exiting the general car park didn't seem to be an issue of the couple of people who I spoke to. Apart from a couple of finish line images, the crowd shots were sparse on Perth Racing's Facebook page, they made no mention of the actual numbers in today's press release, even though they gave away hundreds of free tickets in the lead up to the event.

The entertainment has been roundly condemned as being low ball in quality. The days of the Jimmy Barnes extravaganza are long gone it seems.

One well placed individual also reported from the grandstand a less than welcoming response to Bob Peter's acceptance speech in a lead up race. Booing openly I am told.

So if you lump this all into one basket of what is happening in Perth, just what is happening ? What was once the lifeblood of racing, the Members, have decided that the carnival jewel, the Railway Stakes, is just a day out for the young ones and they are best to stay away. I'm told wagering was hard work yesterday, as what was described as a champagne swilling young women's crowd, was not overly interested in competitive wagering on the actual races.

The marketing department at Perth Racing should be congratulated for achieving something that they haven't been able to do in recent years, that is getting first timers or very occasional race goers to come out, but the Committee have failed in maintaining the interest of the actual people who invest in the Industry in both wagering and the ever declining ownership of horses.

The unhealthy domination of metropolitan racing has now started to reverberate loud and long. Breeding numbers have fallen to record lows, yearling sales going forward may become a one day event where vendors scrape an existence out of the dirt. Westspeed still rewards Breeders going Interstate with their mares, you only have to look to yesterday's results to see how hard it is to breed locally. But RWWA still support this insanity of Interstate based mares in a production line of non investment in WA.

Next week's Winterbottom will attract even less, it always does. It tends to be a race meeting more for the purist than the party goer. There are no Interstate superstars known to anyone outside of the sport actually competing, so no boost there.

Then we get to the Kingston Town day on the final Saturday of the 'Carnival' where numbers will be marginally more than family and friends in real terms.

Yet we will be told through various cash for comment impartial sources, that the carnival was a success and that Perth Racing are getting it right.
