they will but who gives a flying pharque...that stadium will play host to a myriad of sporting events and concerts...there should be a stand called "the Barnett stand"..this guy has done so much for this city and all he gets are brickbats from the great unwashed.

Let's keep the politics out of it please

John Barnett was a great weather man on the Tellie but naming a stand after him is a bit over the top.

I just hope they finish the thing completely....totally completely....before they open it....no half arsed openings like Betty's Quay or FSH when political pressure forced pre mature ribbon cutting when the joints were clearly not ready. It looks a n impressive build just driving past , I just hope it is big enough.

To Jell. Stadium behind a long way? Budgeted to finish Feb 2018. Now going to finish Nov/Dec 2017. That should mean its in front of schedule.

This schedule hasn't changed due to it being in front, they're (Government and Multiplex) just trying to push it to finish early even though it's difficult to do. They may well get it "open" if they do various things like night shift and the cost will blow out. They may well open for an event then but there will be things behind the scenes that won't be 100% ready, commissioning a job of this size takes considerable time.

^^^^^^how can anyone say it will pay for itself when the cost of it is not being divulged???? :)) :)) =)) =))

Spoken to a few blokes on site there, now the government are wanting a nov finish it'll be night shift, 7 day a weeks with penalties. All paid for by the taxpayer. Well done pollies. These tools are so out of touch (both sides) that I'm debating using my Saturday punting $ to pay my non voting fine.

i was only saying it because you dont start building any investment without having your anchor tenant locked it. It leaves you open to getting arse raped in any negotiation. And the eagles are waiting to penetrate. To me this is poor business on behalf of the govt

Wouldnt the builders contract price be a fixed price and not the taxpayer paying for 7 day a week day and night shifts. Have driven past their 3 times this week at night and havnt noticed any activity.

For a January/february finish you'd assume. Always ways to get extra $ out of the government

Yeah like Nota said, it's been quoted for an early 2018 completion. So if the Government/Builder wants it early then they have to foot the cost, which gets pasted on to the taxpayer.

The eagles and dockers won't be staying at the concrete jungle, they are just making sure they get the best deal possible. Not sure you can really get teams to sign on to deals 3-4 years out from a stadium being completed. Negotiations take time.

The pedestrian bridge is behind schedule ( @Jell can probably confirm), as it is being built in Malaysia and has been delayed somewhat.

If either team elected to stay at Subiaco, they will get what they deserve - reckon most people will love the new stadium when it is finished!

Hear the footings for the drop in cricket pitches, went in recently. Grass around mid year.

It's safe to say they will both be moving there, Considering on the plans I use it has written "Eagles  change rooms" and "Dockers change rooms" and I was wiring in the Eagles Changerooms only a few weeks ago :P

Correct about the bridge which I forgot to mention, it was given to an overseas builder and is also way behind. If the bridge isn't finish I'm told the stadium can't open due to it being the main access for emergency service vehicles.

Are we not somewhere in the vicinity of 40 Billion dollars in debt?!?!?! So approx 13 times the debt we were in when he came in to power.

The government should be starting projects now, after the boom not bloody during it.

That's enough politics for me though, fingers crossed I never have to hear Mike Nahan's voice ever again after a week or so.

And then we get Mark who will have to remain Premier and live to 106 years of age to fulfill all the promises made in the last 3 months. We have FA money inthe tin but he is going to build $3B of metronet plus plus plus and it wont increase the debt. Remembering that passenger fares are heavily subsidised and paid for by us who dont catch the fkg train. Maybe he can turn water into wine or even rebuild the pyramids.

The steel fabrication (including reo bar) was outsourced to a Malaysian company. The hold up has been due to the supply of this from them.

Granted Multiplex is now Canadian/Brazilian owned after being brought out by Brookfield but they were formed in Perth and still have a strong presence, history and are well established here.

Heard the roofing system, steelwork and canopies was shipped O/S as well  :-??

A lot of Barneys projects have seen the $$ they generate go O/S. Not so sure that in the long term it will be seen to be the best policy.

IMHO is much better if the $$ stay here and are spent at the local grocery store, furniture shops, caryards, the TAB :D  etc etc and not spent over the counter in a foreign country :-?
  • buffybuffy    277 posts
Are you sure you heard that? Have also heard that the only part that went anywhere was the bridge steel. And that was incorrect.

was told by a local company as to who got the contract for the roofing system.

Also can see it is the wrong colour - apparently they said it will fade and look correct in time =))

All the steel structure for the canopies for the stadium I believe was fabricated in Henderson by Civmec.

Well are stuffed aren't we! Build a train line to service one suburb that will cost copious amounts of money to run each year, sounds great.

    Anarchy????

I'm 33 so relatively young, when/who was the last premier that anyone would say was great for the state?

Cant recall off the top of my head ( was at tender/quote stage) who mentioned it to me - will have a look when I get back into the iceworks - may have been them.
Was pricing another project and estimator was telling me that they were close and were being asked to drop their price or it was going to xxxx - all to be made offshore and shipped in.
At that point in time they were holding firm - price difference was only a small % - huge $$ though $-)
