Ascot Opening Day

West Australian Racing
With less than three months to opening day at ascot and there seems to be concerns on the condition of the track? I hope this isn't true as last year was an absolute disgrace, for a so called metropolitan race track.

if that is true, Howie, why with 3 months to opening are they not doing urgent remedial work?

a lot of work can be done in 3 months..opening day 6th oct I understand....especially with the warmer weather approaching work can be done.......unless they have run out of $$$$'s.

from what I have been told by a mate who works horses on the viscoride or sand inside the main grass there is more than smoke to this one going to need a lot of sunshine and warmer weather to have it ready so hoping the weather gods are with them in the coming months

Falcon from what I have been told it was the work they have done that is the cause they might have cut it back a tad to far

It seems to be an ongoing problem after the embarrassment of Opening day last year.
I have been told the work carried out on the track has cause a lot of problems.
I have also been told there are a number of experienced guys coming in to help out. Sprinking nailed it lots of sunshine and warm weather would be much appreciated at Ascot

It's hard to do the best work on a shoestring budget. Perth Racing spend less in real terms on maintenance than in the past. In almost every department, Perth Racing have trimmed staff and expenditure.

What they are not telling you is that it has to be cut further. They do not contribute  in any substantial way to race stakes, so it is inevitable that if turnover flattens anymore than it already has, then stakes money will be hit hard. The once talked about sale of the TAB has lost momentum, as the product has lost a lot of it's appeal to potential buyers. The State Govt are likely to shelve any chance of a sale in the hope that the asking price can be achieved further into the future.

From what has been talked about by many in the industry it isn't budgets that could be the cause, more like the decisions made to cut it shorter than normal as mentioned by "spinking". You would of thought after last years ****up they would have been a bit more conservative to make sure there wasn't another embarrassment to Perth Racing.

    Is Mr WACA still there,

    L-)

Probably went of last years notes. Said to one of the sidekicks there. Just cut it to this length(as he checks his notepad).

Then runs off to his other job at Perth Stadium.

Can I ask what anyone would expect it to look like in July ?
If it doesn't still look like a cow paddock after being ripped and aerated post season I'd be worried.
Grass only grows very slowly in winter. When spring arrives it will take off.

You beat me too it Jumly......Why get in experts when you have the messiah there?? Hopeless, hopeless, hopeless...what them run to RWWA for more money to get them out of this crap. Even getting e-mails from RWWA promoting lunches at the track...A club that need the government to do their advertising??? and we expect them to manage 2 race tracks!?!?!!?

i think a few months after winter makes a massive difference to growing lawn...
im no expert, but i look at my front lawn every day and it does "squat" this time of year.

And what if we have a long winter. Last winter, I still had my Fireplace going Melbourne cup day down here Diva. And we all know how last year turned out.

"A long Summer, always Meant a long Winter to Come"

"In this world, only winter is certain"

"Summer is the time for Squabbles, In winter we must protect one another, keep each other warm, share our strengths"

    Game Of Thrones Quotes

    :D    And my personal Favourite.

"Here and now as winter is upon us, That is a different matter. IT IS A TIME FOR GROWING UP".

    GAME OF THRONES

You obviously have never watched the biggest (and greatest) TV series ever made.

Do yourself a favour RIO. It is an absolute must. Put my old man on too it. He watched the whole 6 series in 3 weeks.

    1. Sopranos (watch from Pilot to finish, you are left wanting to rip the tv out of the wall at the end, best show and cast members of any tv series ever made. My profile pic gives it away - huge fan!) 2. Suits (very smart and clever, you will be hooked) 3. Narcos (greats script, cant wait for series 2) 4. Entourage (very funny for the younger generation, my mum didnt like it) 5. Billions (just seen series 1, decent)
