Seriously I have now turned the radio off, I cannot stand to listen to this guy anymore. He is a argumentative know it all and is doing this radio station no good at all. His race calling is bad enough but seriously his interviewing is out of control!

I'm surprised that anyone still listens to it. Worse than a commercial station and whoever is talking is a nightmare to listen to. A very occasional listener over the past 12 months

Horses form he was arguing about the run and then he was dribbling on about the difference between a cappuccino and chocolate on top compared to a flat white, seriously!

Bring back Wattsie and TJ...they were that bad...they were great! In seriousness TJ was one of the greatest race callers of all time.

Often find the biggest drawback is that he's so eager to spill out his opinion on the horse / race / result, that he inevitably talks over the top of every single guest that appears.

Otherwise, do enjoy the show - it would be a tough gig, so if anyone believes they can improve it, then suggest you apply forthwith.

I don't mind Richie and I agree it would be bloody hard calling races of any code. Hey @sniper did you ever listen to Taylor Cowper on sport fm? That is painful haha

Choc you have been on this forum long enough to know that the contributors on here are much more capable of running every facet of the racing industry in WA than those actually doing the job.

He is now the boss so I don't think you will hear him that much.

I thought he was informed and knew his local product pretty well. maybe if some of you can build a bridge you can get over it ?

It's not like they can talk about anything else with all the gags in place on factual commentary.

Piss of the brown nose bald man that Shortte is fair dinkum a disgrace his rant this morning about state of origin was a pathetic joke but that's him I'd rather Richie than Shortte any day

Personally I like Richie, very informative and is a dead eye dick on close finishes with his calling.

    I like Richie too!
No frills and will never have a swollen head.
Most days he is accurate and I believe he says what he thinks.
He's not a rel or a friend of mine and I live in NSW!

I am going to be straightforward here the worst thing about richie is his tips ! He is knowledgable, loves the sport and is a fairly good racecaller but some of his blackbookers fair dinkum I sacked them 10 starts ago. I was told as a child to do a job you love cos you do it for a long time, Richie loves racing and I think he does a good job. Get rid of David Shortte now I am all ears, he would have to be the most insincere person on radio

You blokes are off your dial, hardest working caller in WA and improving in strides weekly. Calls GP Fri, Ascot Sat and Pinj Sun in a week. Put your hand up if you could get close.

Great caller I agree.  But leave him to call.......  Actaully, can't comment about Racing Radio. Haven't listened for a while.  Maybe tomorrow with Big Wes will be the start again.

Richie is very accurate in regards to the finish. Credit where its due.

HOWEVER during the run of a race he fair dinkum must think he is calling the greyhounds..... he will say the last horse "is 15 lengths from the leader", when it is maybe 8 lengths from the leader. C'mon Richie the thoroughbred is a much longer animal than the greyhound. You are easily capable of painting the picture at the end of the race so there is no reason for you to be unable to get this bit right

That aside, his radio work is a tad awkward but he's a good caller overall

agree, chrisso and a very nice bloke to boot.

who listens to tips anyway? better than ernie manning who only tips very short priced favourites.

he LOVES $1.20 pops at the trots.....

Richard is a great guy. I regularly see him at the gym. Always talks and very very genuine.

Falcon, you know I love Ernie. The 1.20, 1.50 1.50 all up from Ernie is always a classic bet.

How is Ernie these days, I don't see him at the track that often. What is his modus operandi these days.

I'd like to see Ernie and Slappy work together.

    Talking over the guests?
You are obviously confusing him with Shortte. He talks over/interrupts everyone. I don't know why Shortte would bother asking someone a question if you're going to interrupt them half way through the first sentence of their reply.

It should be a requirement in broadcasting companies that on-air employees have to listen to replays of their program. Maybe that way they would improve.

ps. My latest pet hate: Media companies referring to their on-air people as "the talent". Makes me want to throw up.

Regarding Richie Bell's performance this morning: I caught that bit; he was just having a bit of fun with the Geraldton tipster. I think they know each other pretty well.

Shortte has been on his soapbox lately yet you criticise Richie! I know which I'd rather listen to. Not that I hear them much.

Also, with the AFL season around the corner get ready for another 23 weeks of Brad Hardie's Multi.

So far I reckon he's got about three right in five seasons. At one stage he had 50+ rounds without a collect.

    It's a pretty loyal/hopeless punter that follows a losing run into a 3rd season.
