I said 2 months ago, whatever Pike is riding will win the cup, not because he has been winning on anything he rides, but the distance rating of his rides has been an exact science for him this season. Its like he has been practicing for this one ride for several months now.
    Hope that makes sense LOL

Yeah...............I missed (forgot) to put three in - so there's a 10% increase in the field size for starters.
(And $1,200 less in my pocket)

    I-)    :-O

looks like a VERY mediocre sat. field with the exception of bobs.

what weight will del. and true l. get??

Real Love and Delicacy probably get 57.5 right now, IF Extra Zero accepts. But if they win on Saturday or the Cox stakes they will cop it wont they? Delicacy prob goes to the St Ledger next and Real Love to the Cox stakes so they avoid each other after Saturday.

If RL or Del win on Saturday or the Cox stakes they wouldn't start on Cup day surely with 59?

So how was Pike's rating on Saturday when SOD on Bedamijo stole it from Tonto Kemo Sabe?

Tonto is Tonto (a risk every day of the week), unless Pike got off and carried Tonto over the line, he was never going to win a replay of their previous meeting this time.

Just noticed a few late Noms come through, not that its going to make a difference, its just a matter of which of the Peters runners is going to win,not that it wouldnt be nice to see someone else pull off a big one for a change.

I agree Darkhorse but most will struggle to finish strongly at the existing distance let alone stretching them to 3200
  • notapuntanotapunta    938 posts
Calm your farms it's only an opinion. I'm actually against going to 3200m. On an 18c 'spring' day in Melbourne it's hard enough let alone a 35c summer day in perth.

This is a Peters v Extra Zero only possible winner.the rest can battle it out for the skinny end of the prizemoney

I think Neverland is the one of Bobs that can and will win the Cup ,its bred to run the trip its form was all around Delicacy when it wasnt right should go into the Cup  5th up perfect basically race over if it goes that way

Field could fall away closer to race day , the attrition may see a 'smokey' come to the fore. Each way..Dubai Escapade About 25/1 now , have a feeling all going well will be shorter on the day and can win. Time to get on! :)]

With Perfect Reflection not heading this way and I couldn't see Delicacy running in this after winning the Cox stakes I think it's out of real love, Neverland and extra zero at the skinny end. Kirov boy can give a sight at odds and don't mind Carney as a real smokey. Shouldn't forget Balmont Girl either

    Its a Saturday.

And my guess is they can draw a bigger crowd with not so many hung over people from new years eve. Remembering they age demographic Perth Racing are trying to get through the gates

Yep I think its makes sense on the 2nd, let people get over their NYE celebrations and freshen up for a Saturday out

And the savings for not racing on NYD is a smart move

It's only ever a payroll issue. Building the brand around the 1st of January has been long abandoned due to penalty rates.

Only ONE Ascot meeting between 20th December and 1st January.Long gone are the days when this period was the most exiting for W.A.races
With a lot of business closed during that period there should have been one Metro meeting somewhere between Boxing Day and New Years Day
  • thefalconthefalcon    20,471 posts

Chelsea the boxing day meeting was once one of the best and most attended meetings of the year.

the derby and I think the Karrakatta...huge crowds....its got me stumped why they canned it.

we are the only state that does not have a metro meeting on boxing day...a bloody disgrace.

guess it saves them penalty rates...the miserable b**tards!!
