You'll need to sit in the stands early on otherwise you won't see a thing come the grand final.

Time to get this up the top again and start some discussion with as many as 20 horses arriving today for the Inters and other feature races.

The scratching of Bettors Fire from the Bunbury Cup is a worry for its Inters chances. Smoky The Bandit was very good in the Cup and although currently 2nd emergency would add an x factor to the series.

Lennytheshark was outstanding at Melton on Friday night and is a deserved favourite at this stage.

Based on what we saw the other night, the Irish horse (which is in the top 30), simply won't be competitive in the series.
I would love Smokey to get a start.
  • JayJayJayJay    8,623 posts
I love Smokey, don't get me wrong, but he can't set the tone in a big race like the inters, it has to be run on his terms, which it may well be...pressure on early, steaming home...but way up in class. Certainly deserves to run over the Irish horse who was downright noncompetitive in a C2 at Northam but is guaranteed a start. Draws will be absolutely critical in the heats.

I'll be there, but I think the reserve seating is a rip off. Not all members can fit in the members bar. Members have been complaining that they should be able to sit in the other stand for free rather than having to fork out extra for it. The stand near the home corner is free but it's far from the action and it's not wired up for sound (last time I checked anyway).

You'll have to get your bum on a seat and sit there all day to enjoy a view of the grand final race. If you move from your seat some swine will take your spot.

Sit in your seat, don't move, **** in your pants because if you get a drink/food or go to the toilet your seat will be gone.

Don't see how you can regard 17 visitors as a few Blacks.

Best available in Australia at the moment as all the others have fallen by the wayside and New Zealanders not prepared to get out of their comfort zone for $1.3m go figure.

It's the worst line up I've ever seen in an Interdom,Waylade 2nd fav and probably win, beaten by Northview Punter 2 starts back and it's 100's??

Undoubtedly Beautide and Christenme would have added that touch of class but they have problems so what we have is the best of the rest.

I think that is a little harsh Blacky...sure, it's not what we hoped for but 17 visitors is decent..its not the worst I've seen but nowhere near top shelf either. I wouldn't read too much into Northview Punter beating Waylade that night!!!! That was ridiculous, he wouldn't carry his gear bag into the birdcage. Be interesting to see Lenny and Avonnova over here, how they handle the track and the opposition. Was keen to see how Bettors Fire measured up but not now. We will all just have to watch it and be honest in assessing after the final. I am not so sure the 9 across the frontline will work but??

3 heats and a final. The way it should be...bring it on! Our Sir Vancelot won 3 Interdominons in a row under the same format...fair dinkum amazing! Later of course the tough Blacks A Fake also won 3 inters in a row. I recollect Our Sir Vancelot winning a heat in Perth in 1996 as well I think.

It's a glorified FFA boys and whilst I along with most here would love to own one in it, if you think otherwise your kidding yourself.

Go back to 2012 when you had ImThemightyquinn, Auckland Reactor, Smoken Up, Mr. Feelgood, Raglan, Mysta Magical Mach, Crombie (in his hay day) and Lombo Navigator! That was an Interdominion!!!

I agree that the depth of that quality is few and far between for whatever reason atm but be realistic horses of the ilk of machtu, Classic American, pacific warrior, meadowbranch dj even northview punter and our blackbird are nothing more then FFA's at best. Personally I like waylade and avonova but let's be serious where would they sit in the 2012 inters??

    They'd be just a number.

I think Waylade could be a very good horse, certainly not just a number...Anyway, we'll find out as we will with Lenny and Avonnova and quite a few others. And yes, no argument about it not being top shelf but I am not slashing my wrists...could be an interesting series and the supporting 4YO races and Mares Classic will make for good meetings over the fortnight...somewhat more so than a one off not so super Saturday.

Avonnova will be ok with the track. If you look at his record he has won at Parkes, Young, the old Bathurst, Penrith, Canberra, and Redcliffe. If he can handle those tracks GP will pose no problems.

Lenny is a question mark. In 41 starts he has had just the 1 at a track shorter than 1000m and that was Globe Derby (845.5m) where he was beaten by Flaming Flutter in the SA Derby. Not saying he won't handle the 1/2 mile circuit but he is yet to show he can.

There have been only four individual winners of the Inter Dominion in the last decade of the race due to the domination of Blacks A Fake, Imthemightyquinn and Beautide.

Only two of those series have been run under the traditional three heats and a final scenario.

Knock all you like boys but the race has attracted more interstate interest than any Inter Dominion held in Perth previously.

22 horses on the flight for the Inters and supporting features is a significant promotional coup for WA harness racing.

It is apparent that some of Australasia's so called superstars lack the constitution to handle 4 runs in two weeks.

I agree on avonnova, if you can handle that triangle track at Redcliffe you can handle any track

    WA Tab betting on jurisdiction of winner.... WA 1.70 , Vic 2.15 , Qld 9.50 , NSW 12 , Ireland 81!!

There are 15 interstate horses this year, not a record (17 in 1996) but well up on the 6 from 2012. I think ITMQ might have scared off a lot of horses that year.  The 81 on offer about Meadowbranch DJ is massive unders on what we have seen so far, even with the quality not being there. Nonetheless, a potentially very interesting series....I'm taking the glass half full rather than half empty view. Going along tomorrow night to have a look...a number of the visitors will be working in between races.

No knock on the horse but talking of unders Billies A Star is $13 on WA Tab. 5th favourite , seems a bit short.

Very handy horse but is a bit one dimensional, can death seat and run time, I'd like to see him sit outside waylayd and grind him to dust

I'll be at Bunbury on the 1st, cannot wait.

Last inters I went to was 1996 at GP.

A group of us backed Scanio EW at 125/1, just missed the final, ran 2nd in the Consolation behind Tibet

Think a few have been a bit harsh, YES there is no Black's A Fake/Beau Tide/Quinny but with the even nature of the noms we should see some cracking racing. I mean tell me who's going to win the series??? I have no bloody Idea! Just hope Bettors Fire at least goes around or my one early speck is out the window and I have to go back to hanging my hat on backing Lombo Navigator EW at 121/1 about 4 months out from the last inters over here, bless him.

My assessment of the locals, more research required for the visitors:

Bettors Fire - genuine contender but concerned with scratching from the Bunbury Cup.
Billies A Star - a bit of a wild card - hasn't raced against this class enough to really evaluate.
Classic American - will need to be driven cold in this company - could sneak into the final.
    Crusader Banner - ditto
Dynamite Dude - much better in stands will struggle at this level.
Libertybelle Midfrew - will need to be driven conservatively at this level - needs good draws.
Lovers Delight - tough type and will handle the 4 runs in 2 weeks - may be just below the class
Machtu - fell in last night and has not lived up to potential - needs very good draws and soft runs.
My Hard Copy - will be well suited by up tempo racing and is always a blow out chance.
Northview Punter - capable of causing a heat upset with right run but generally below the best.
Our Blackbird - will be competitive when it draws well.
Waylade - without doubt WA's leading contender but does meet some collective class.
Smokey The Bandit - everyone hoping he gets a run - very impressive in Bunbury Cup

Great coverage of the workouts between races on Twitter last night.

With my limited knowledge of the visitors I do think Mach Beauty will be well suited to the Gloucester Park circuit. Probably the quickest beginner in Australia and one thing you do know Lauren Panella will have them running.

JayJay I count 18 with addition of 1st emergency Devendra and For A Reason and Jason Rulz both of whom were specifically sent here for the Inters and can hardly be regarded as locals.

Whatever way you look at it, still a very strong interstate representation in the Inters and the other features.

The International Drivers series during the Inters should also provide plenty of interest.

I don't understand why Stewards have said they will be going harder on drivers during the ID series. That makes no sense.
