Perth Racing Members face steep increases for coming season
West Australian Racing
A group of long term members of Perth Racing are fuming at the prospect of severe price increases for reserved tables in the members area at the newly renovated members floor at Ascot for the coming season. These paid up members' tenure with WATC / Perth Racing span from 25 to 35 yrs and they are on the brink of not renewing their reserved facilities for the 2015 Ascot season.
Having paid $4,000 for their reserved tables in the previous season (no food & beverage –reserved table only) , they were initially offered two new options under the renovated floor, which was to retain a table of six:
(1) A table in the Members Dining Room at $22,016 for the Ascot season (plus a minimum food beverage spend of $150 per meeting x 38 meetings = $5,700), for a total cost of $27,716.
(2) A table in the 1848 bar (formerly the Promenade Bar) at $8,936 for the Ascot season (plus min food & beverage spend of $240 per meeting x 38 meetings = $9,120), for a total cost of $18,056.
So at the very minimum a 450% increase in cost after being reserved members for at least 25 yrs.
Shortly after this another proposition was forthcoming based on the Ascot season being a “normal” 28 meetings instead of 38 earlier proposed (assuming Belmont was going to be closed for it’s own capital works). Ridiculously the cost went down for the Members Dining Room table but INCREASED for the tables in the 1848 Bar ,though there were 10 less planned meetings, as follows:
(1) A table in the Members Dining Room at $19,424 for the Ascot season (plus a minimum food & beverage spend of $150 per meeting x 38 meetings = $5,700), for a total cost of $25,124.
(2) A table in the 1848 bar (formerly the Promenade Bar) at $10,184 for the Ascot season (plus min food & beverage spend of $240 per meeting x 38 meetings = $9,120), for a total cost of $19,304.
This “new offer” represented a 482% increase for ten less meetings than the previous offer, assuming they took the cheaper option.
If this is how Perth Racing treats not only its members but its long term paying members who have reserved facilities, it does not auger well for the future of the race club. Having paid to have reserve tables in facilities well below par for many years then being given this treatment once badly needed renovations have been done has infuriated this group of members, to the point of considering a special meeting of members to put a vote of no confidence in the committee.
Further, the offer to be moved to the 1848 Bar is an inferior location to where they currently reside, with no toilet facilities on that level & is accessible only by stairs, which thereby disadvantages those members who are less agile due to age etc.
Apparently these members are being given until the end of October to make this decision & pay in full to keep their reserved tables……………to me it is Perth Racing waving goodbye to those who have stuck by the club through thick & thin………………….is there any other members out there that have found themselves in the same predicament ?

can't quite figure where the promenade/1848 bar is...is it the open section that looks over the bookies?
OK, so I'm just showing the other side here. But the prices seem to be based off the per person rate that any other member would have to pay if they wanted to take a table. That is for the Flying colours;
$90 x 6 people x 23 normal days +
$270 x 6 people x 1 "Spring Carnival - 28th November" day +
$300 x 6 people x 4 Perth racing "Carnival Race Days"
=$21240 (ok, my maths may be out there?)
So, you WERE getting an 80% discount on your reserved table?
Just saying, that they've probably worked out that even if the table sits empty for the normal 23 days of racing, they will still make the more off the table on the big days....... (even including the $3450 drinks bill they miss out on)
Now you wouldn't catch me anywhere near them at either of the prices, but they have obviously changed tact to be able to maximise the return on the tables, vs looking after the loyal members?

Personally, I think it would be more attractive to average joe if they sold "3 meeting" reserved tables or carnival reserved packages or single day (ie super saturday/perth cup etc). The racing in my opinion is not high quality enough to sell "season passes", but i guess i follow Perth Racing so I know the quality isnt there. This is not an issue for the once/twice a year attendees
:-?
I hope it works for them...However their track record at being successful with great innovations is not great reading

its like the reserved car bays in the members..some people have too much money. most days only a small % of the bays are occupied. I often park in one of them... :-B if they call me on course, so be it.
actually 90 bucks for a great feed is not bad..but the price of grog escalates that at a rapid pace.

Guys, you've managed to get a reserved table for the past 20 years without paying for the table,by selling the summer carnival tables off to the "cashed up sector". And now Ted is on the way out, you try and elicit the plebs to support the no confidence motion when the committee ACTUALLY STARTING TO LOOK AFTER THE MEMBERS opposed to looking after the people that vote Ted in!. You get on here and try and elicit outrage!
If PR actually make money out of your tables, they may be able to pay a proper turf specialist to get Ascot up to racing condition.......
OK, I've got a warped view.... :D

As with all things to do with PR, they could have handled it so much better and communicated it more honestly....But deception and rumours is the boards way of doing things...So over due for a change

The show is awful, I don't even bother going to the races unless a clients horse is debuting, it's simply no
longer fun.
The joint can burn to the ground for all I care, I no longer give a shit for Chairman Mao and his band of brothers. They have fucked the game permanently in Perth.
Gary and Rio comments think that the tableholders just sit and eat cucumber sandwiches and drink Moet! What a laugh - these tables hold the most serious of gamblers and contribute heavily to turnover. You think that the casual guests in the restaurant will spend the same amount on TAB - I don't think so. Reserve table holders are there week after week and pay upfront for every day of attendance. And yes the turf club actualy makes a profit from these Reserve Tables.

If they wanted to free up tables for other members then get more floor space for the members..Don't get rid of the ones that are there.. And stop secretly putting the prices up - by nearly 100% - and then tell everyone how much they have reduced the costs!! Bunch of dead heads.
All members are really important to the club and all needed to be accommodated. This committee is not interested in al members, jus the ones that they like...AND that is the problem.
I haven't gone to the races in the past 12 months on a normal Saturday and got a table to sit and have a meal in the members, and we have tried about 10 times.......on normal Saturdays, and still cant get a seat.....I'm classified as a whinger, not a member with a concern.
I don't understand why they didn't go to the table holders of the past 5 years, tell them there was going to be a ballot for half the number of current tables, and ask if they wanted to go in the ballot?? Wouldn't keep everyone happy, but at least they keep a lot of the current members who want that service happy... But this and most recently previous boards - don't care for the current band of members....Seem to forget quickly who they are meant to be looking after.

A disappointing position for a club with so much potential to be in.....It's not hard to have a set of values that match up with the community and the majority of your members..something i feel the past 3 or 4 committees have not even tried to achieve!!!
Him resigning was the only way he was goign to be gotten rid of...only about 10 years too late!!!
