Hawks just too good tonite. Four straight grand finals, what a team. Thought Spurr was huge for freo he cops a bit on here but great effort tonite. Maybe pavs last match if so what a career. Looks like Ross will never get one. Who knows. Big win for the Eagles tomorrow night and then a cracker of a gf next week.

Dockers finished on top of the league. Do not underestimate that achievement. In most other sporting competitions around the world that would make them champions but in the purely dollar driven event that is a grand final from the top 8 (unbelievable) they are now amongst the also rans.

A true competition champion is the team that finishes on top after the home and away games. If you are allocating the champions after a one day knockout stage you might as well make it a knock out tournament from day one.

It's the AFL not the EPL, nothing matters but the GF.
Major league baseball world series champs, NBA its the playoffs winner, NHL Stanley Cup winner, NFL the superbowl, its the EPL that's out of step not the AFL.

Oh and it is dollar driven in the States as well.Do you really think a fair comp is decided by playoffs? No it isn't. Teams play each other home and away and the team with the most points wins. I don't care if it is the English Premier League or the Great Southern Under 12s Footy League.

Not sure about this Slip; get a bit sick of hearing this argument to be honest. Soccer is pretty much the only sport that does not have a finals series. Although, only in domestic leagues, the World Cup for example, is a finals series - the winner of the World Cup does not necessarily have the best record through the qualifying rounds. But no one doubts they are not the best team in the World, as they stand up when the heat really goes on, and that is what an elimination based finals series allows for. Another level of competition.

Tennis tournaments - no luxury of playing everyone in the draw to work out who has the best record, you play who is served up, you win you progress.

Even look at the Olympics, swimming and athletics....you have heats (regular season) and it isn't about winning those, it is about qualifying for the final, then the heat goes on and it is all left out there.

Brisbane never finished on top of the ladder in their three-peat years, yet no one doubts they weren't the best team by a street - the regular season is about priming yourself for the next step up, the gruelling finals series!

Good on Freo for winning the Minor Premiership, but it means squat.

No improvement in Fyfe and West Coast should trade Gaff if I recall.

He's no Robinson Crusoe....I had Sydney as Premiers, West Coast missing the 8 (just) and Western Bulldogs getting the spoon. A nice "trifecta....only thing I got right was Mick being the first coach sacked.

Not as a 32 year old having been out of the game for that period of time plus the circumstances surrounding his suspension.

The game would be well and truly past him now and those calling for his inclusion against Hawthorn have no understanding of the requirements of modern football.

IMHO he didn't have to get a touch - just have the aerobic fitness (which he should have had) to run with Mitchell and negate his influence.

As it turned out Mitchell was BOG - 35 disposals and cut us up

I still want Gaff traded by the way....its worse watching him play than anyone else in the league.

As for Fyfe, he improved from second best to best...not much of a step up to tell the truth...Oh and i had the eagles fighting with about 3 other teams for 8th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aaron Sandilands wins Doig Medal...for the 2nd time....obviously very highly regarded by the club ...more so than some on here. Missing games like Fyfe did often knocks out obvious contenders. It's interesting to see the club's take on their players....Gaff over Priddis at West Coast, Gibson over Mitchell at Hawthorn. All the clubs have different systems and only Brisbane can come up with 4 equal club champions ...I remember when Leuenberger had a great year and didn't make top 8 and another time when Daniel Rich was a standout but didn't salute. Doesn't mean the umps got it wrong, just a different values based system. But for the much maligned Sandilands, a great result.

Absolute indictment on the club's voting system that the Brownlow winner and the player who won virtually every other award going around and polled a near record number of Brownlow votes didn't win your clubs own medal, time for a revamp of the voting structure I would think. Obviously too much emphasis on missed games.
Rio you're off your rocker mate, Gaff was clearly our best in the GF and by a considerable way and he was one of the very few players of ours who stood up all day and gave 100%. It was clearly his best ever game for the Eagles and illustrated exactly how far he has come, sometime you just have to give credit where credit is due and he was terrific.

Hard to disagree re Fyfe Andrew but the same could said for Priddis and Mitchell in their own club awards.

It appears that the Clubs may apply different KPIs than the umpires, media and the players themselves.

I wasn't surprised that Gaff won especially given his grand final performance and his performance in the biggest game of the year may well have got him home.

I'd still trade Gaff, he is weak and his disposal is poor....Glad his value is going up, but that only strengthens my resolve to have him gone.....Being the best eagle on the ground in the 2016 GF is not something you'd want to hang your reputation on
